GAME OVERVIEW SAN JUAN HILLS –TESORO SERIES

It’s senior night as the Stallions meet with the Tesoro Titans for the third time in as many years and will look to turn things around after losing to the Titans in blowout games the past two seasons. After jumping out to a solid 6-1 start, the Stallions have dropped two straight league games to Mission Viejo and San Clemente. A win tonight would improve their South Coast League record to 2-2 and most likely earn them a playoff berth. The Titans have fallen off a bit from past success and have struggled so far sitting at 4-4. They come into tonight’s game with a league record of 0-2 with losses to both Mission Viejo and San Clemente as well. However, the Titans are coming off of their bye week so they will be primed to keep their winning streak versus the Stallions.

TODAY’S STORYLINES • It’s Senior Night. This could very well be the final time this year’s seniors ever play a game in the Badlands again. We will have to wait and see how the playoffs play out to see if they’ll get another home game.

• Tesoro High School is a neighborhood rival and sits just 8 miles down the road from SJHHS • The Stallions have never beaten the Titans and they will look to turn the tide in the series tonight.

• The Stallions used to play in Tesoro’s stadium in the school’s early years while the Badlands was being built.

#3 Brady Bjorkman Running Back/Receiver/Quaterback/ Defensive Back

#16 Robbie Crist Defensive Back

Robbie has played football at SJHHS all four years. He has had some injury setbacks, but did not let them prevent him from being the best player and teammate he could be and has been able to work his way onto the field on special teams and defense here in his senior year.

Brady is a two-year letter winner for the stallions and has proven to be one of the most dynamic and versatile players in the school’s history. Taking snaps at 4 different positions(RB,WR,QB,DB) and playing offense, defense, and special teams, Brady has been able to use his great athletic ability to play anywhere the coaches have asked. So far this season Brady has accumulated 464 All-Purpose yards, 2 total touchdowns, and 4 tackles. Brady’s versatility and ability to adapt to multiple positions have made him invaluable to his team.

Born in Mission Viejo, California on July 21, 1999, Robbie has a 3.4 GPA and plans to attend Saddleback in the fall with the intent of later transferring to USC with a major in Business. He enjoys surfing and skateboarding as well as watching USC and the Denver Broncos. His best memory of being a student at SJHHS is seeing a new face everyday at school.

Brady was born in Portland, Oregon on June 12, 1998. He has a 3.6 GPA and plans to attend either University of Colorado Boulder or Oregon State University. His favorite team is the New England Patriots and he enjoys eating pizza and watching Friday Night Lights. His favorite teacher is Mr. Baker and his best memory playing football at SJHHS is beating Great Oak in overtime.

#56 Eric Dominguez Defensive Line

Eric has played football all four years at SJHHS and is universally loved by all members of the SJHHS football program.

Part of AVID and the Spanish Club, Eric wants to attend Saddleback College and major in computer science. He enjoys jogging and watching First Blood and while he loves playing football, he hates watching it. His favorite teacher is Ms. Unzueta.

#29 Cameron Buchanan Defensive Back

Cameron has played in 24 games in his Stallion career and has been a force on defense both his junior and senior seasons earning 1st team AllLeague honors. In his career he has recorded 193 total tackles, 1 sack, and 6 tackles for a loss. He also intercepted 8 passes, forced 1 fumble and blocked a punt in his three years of varsity play. Cameron plays much bigger than his physical size and can be found patrolling the middle of the field delivering bone-crushing hits.

#33 Thomas Drassler Defensive Back

Thomas was born on April 24, 1998 in Orange County. He enjoys spearfishing and his favorite movie is Boondock Saints. He plans to attend the University of Arizona to major in business. His favorite memory is playing whiffle ball with his teammates on team development night.

Cameron has a 4.0 GPA and would like to attend BYU. Born on May 20, 1999, his favorite team is the Chicago Bears and his favorite food is Sushi. His favorite teacher is Mr. Hernandez and his best memory at SJHHS is the team’s overtime victory against Great Oak High School.

#15 Quinn Ginieczki Running Back/ Defensive Back

#8 Brock Cazel Running Back/Defensive Back

A two-year letter winner, Quinn has done a good job of filling in and helping support the Stallions run game. Despite the challenge of coming back from a horrible knee injury, Quinn has put in the work and been able to fill his role as one of the Stallions’ backs. In 7 games this year he has 26 carries for 93 yards and has answered when his number has been called.

Brock is a three-year letter winner making and impact on both offense and defense. In his career he has rushed for a total of 806 yards and totaled 287 yards receiving. He also accounted for 66 total tackles, 2 interceptions, and 1 forced fumble on the defensive side of the ball. He has scored a total of 13 touchdowns in his three-year varsity career. Brock is known for his extremely physical brand of play, inciting fear in his opponents by delivering big hits on both sides of the ball.

Quinn boasts a 3.4 GPA and plans to attend Texas A&M where he will major in mechanical engineering. Born in Laguna Beach on December 14, 1998, he loves the country and plans to move to Texas. He enjoys exploring and eating A’s Burgers and his favorite memory is getting to start in week 4 and being able to play with his teammates.

Brock was born on December 20, 1998. His favorite team is the Oregon Ducks and his favorite food is pizza. He plans to attend Saddleback College and later transfer. His favorite teacher is Mr. Hernandez and his best memory is beating Great Oak in overtime.

STALLIONS #65 Jason Glass Offensive Line/Defensive Line

memory playing football was getting his first career interception against Marina High School last season.

Jason is a three-year letterman, playing in 28 games and has been a dominant force on both the offensive and defensive lines. So far he has 57 total tackles, 15 tackles for loss, and 11 sacks in 9 games his senior season. He has also forced 2 fumbles.

#1 Cayden McCluskey Wide Receiver/Defensive Back

A two-year letter winner, Cayden has had a very productive career. In 22 games, he has hauled in 95 catches for 1233 yards and 7 touchdowns and recorded 52 total tackles. Cayden had some high expectations after his older brother, Kolton, had a solid career with the Stallions, graduating in 2015. Cayden has lived up to those expectations, however surpassing his brother in every major statistical category. He also returns punts for the Stallions.

Born in Mission Viejo, California on March 24, 1999, Jason has played football all four years at SJHHS and holds all three lifting records for the school. He has a 3.3 GPA and would like to attend Cal Poly SLO or UC Davis where he will major in business. His favorite team is the 49ers and his favorite food is sushi. His best memory is beating Great Oak in overtime to ruin their homecoming.

Born in Orange, California on December 2, 1998, Cayden has a 3.6 GPA and would like to attend BYU and major in mechanical engineering. His favorite team is the Baltimore Ravens and his favorite TV show is The Flash. His favorite teacher is Mr. Spiers and he can move his ears without touching them.

#53 John Hernandez Middle Linebacker

A three-year letter winner, John has played strong in the middle of the defense, totalling 90 tackles in 20 games over his career.

#14 Jack Montgomery Tight End/Kicker

Born in Mission Viejo, California on June 20 1999, John’s best memories are the amount of punishment he received from Coach Park and lunch meetings with the team. His favorite food is tacos and something that people may not know about him is that he plays the piano. John plans to attend Saddleback College after he graduates.

Jack is a three-year letter winner. In 29 career games he has scored 3 touchdowns while making 8/8 field goals and 90% of his PATs. His junior year he kicked touchbacks on 30 of his 76 kickoffs. Jack has been consistent and given the Stallions a reliable kicking game.

#9 Jacob Huff Wide Receiver/Defensive Back

Jack has maintained a 4.2 GPA while taking 10 AP classes and served 400 hours for Lions Heart Community Service. He plans to go to Stanford University and major in Business. Born on January 8, 1999, he enjoys snowboarding and eating sushi. His favorite football memory is kicking the game winning field goal against Great Oak in overtime.

A three-year letter winner, Jacob has played in 31 career games. In those 31 games, he has set every major receiving record at SJHHS on his way to 1st team All-League and 3rd team All-County honors. Over his three-year career he has reeled in 183 catches for 2548 yards and 22 touchdowns making him the single best statistical receiver to ever play at SJHHS. Jacob has also been a factor on defense, totalling 25 tackles and 1 INT.

#59 Christian Rotschedl Defensive Line

Christian has played football all four years at SJHHS and has proven to be one of the hardest workers and best teammates the school has seen. Whether it be on the practice field or the weight room, Christian can always be found giving everything he can and routinely stays after hours to get extra work in on his own.

Born on August 18, 1998, Jacob has a 3.2 GPA and hopes to pursue a career in construction management. He enjoys surfing and eating pizza as well as following his favorite NFL team, the Green Bay Packers. His favorite football memory is beating Great Oak in overtime.

#44 Ryan Magro Defensive Back

A two-year letter winner for the Stallions, Ryan has recorded a career total of 24 tackles and 1 fumble recovery. Ryan is known for playing with an unprecedented fire and love for his school and teammates and plays with an extreme passion for the game.

Born on December 8, 1998 in Huntington Beach, California, Christian was a Junior Olympic gymnast and placed 7th in the nation. He maintains a 3.84 GPA and plans to attend Orange Coast College before transferring to Stanford Medical on his way to becoming a neurosurgeon. He enjoys drawing and painting and his favorite movie is Count of Monte Cristo. Something most people don’t know about him is that he consumes over 3,000 lbs of milk annually. He would like to thank his family and coaching staff for supporting him throughout high school.

He plans to attend Saddleback College and later transfer to San Diego State University where he will major in communications. He would like to be a TV broadcaster or join the Marine Corps. His favorite teams are the Detroit Lions and Michigan Wolverines. Born on September 5, 1999, Ryan enjoys eating steak and long walks on the beach. He loves his mom and his best

#47 Ryan Smith Tight End/Defensive Line

youth organization. He enjoys hiking, fishing, and quilting and his favorite movie is Lord of the Rings. After high school Cole would like to attend a four-year university and serve a mission for his church. He plans to major in business with an emphasis on entrepreneurship and innovative technology. In high school, Cole started his own business, Suchesk Speed Academy, which specializes in speed and agility training for youth.

Ryan is a three-year letter winner and has made an impact on both sides of the ball. In 21 career games, he has 349 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns. He’s also totalled 39 tackles, 1 sack, and an interception on defense. Ryan is a quiet hardworking player who is dependable and can be relied on to get his job done.

#60 David Volk Defensive Line

David played football all four years at SJHHS and proved to be one of the best teammates and most selfless players on the team. An extremely hard worker, David has always been willing to do whatever it takes to help the team. He was born on October 14, 1998 in Mission Viejo, California. He plans to attend San Diego State University where he will continue his love for computers by majoring in computer science. David’s favorite food is steak and his favorite teacher is Mr. Moreno. His most memorable moment at SJHHS is hitting 300 pounds on hang clean, the second best in the school.

Ryan is a multi-sport athlete, playing baseball and rugby as well. He holds a 3.7 GPA and has been on honor roll every year of high school. He was born in Newport Beach on August 17, 1999 and plans to attend Arizona State University where he will major in business. He enjoys flying drones and playing xbox and his favorite team is the San Diego Chargers. His best memory is his interception against Trabuco Hills.

#51 Scott Stevenson Offensive Line

A two-year letter winner, Scott saw time primarily as a backup his junior year but has started all 9 games so far this season on the offensive line. He is one of only two senior offensive lineman.

Born on May 29, 1999, Scott has a 3.4 GPA and plans on enlisting in the United States Navy after high school. He enjoys riding dirt bikes and eating chicken fried steak and his favorite TV show is Modern Family. His best high school memory is playing football with his teammates.

#40 River Stewart Defensive Line Wide Receiver/Defensive Back

River is a two-year letter winner and has played in 18 career games. While he got significant playing time his junior year, River has really established himself as a solid pass rusher in his senior year, sacking the quarterback 8 times and totalling 40 tackles in 9 games so far this season.

River plans to attend Saddleback College and later transfer to a UC where he will major in sports medicine. Born on September 6, 1999 in Mission Viejo, California, River has been active in serving Life Time Kids Academy and enjoys weight lifting and eating fried chicken. His most memorable moment at SJHHS is the intense football offseason and his favorite football memory is playing Valencia in the CIF playoffs his junior season.

#32 Cole Suchesk Running Back

Cole is a three-year letter winner and has been responsible for a large portion of the Stallion’s rushing attack the past two seasons. In 17 career games, he has rushed for 746 yards on 134 carries with 11 total touchdowns. Cole has lost a chunk of his final season to injury, but will look to bounce back in his return to the field tonight.

Born in Mission Viejo, California on June 11, 1999, Cole has done volunteer work for the Missing Persons Foundation and participated in many other service opportunities through his church’s

lead an offense that ranked #1 in the nation in passing yards and individually he finished as the statistical leader in total offense with 348 yards per game.

2007-2011: Assistant Principal

Aaron served an Assistant Principal at Capistrano Valley High School from 2007-2008 under former SJHHS principal Tom Ressler. When Mr. Ressler moved to San Juan Hills, Aaron came with him and served as an Assistant Principal at SJHHS from 2008-2011.

During this time he also coached quarterbacks Grant Schwartz and Sean Schroeder who both went on to receive Division 1 scholarships.

Aaron returned from Montana in early 2003 to start a career in high school education and coaching. He received his first opportunity at JSerra in the school’s first year of operation coaching the upstart Lions freshman squad.

1999-2002: Asst. Coach, Montana State University

Aaron coached the quarterbacks, wide receivers, and running backs while at Montana State. Under Aaron’s leadership running back Ryan Johnson became Montana State’s all-time leading rusher as the Bobcat offense consistently ranked in the top half of the Big Sky Conference in rushing and total offense. Aaron also coached All-America wide receiver Junior Adams who now coaches at Eastern Washington University.

When ‘San Juan Hills’ was first adopted as the name of CUSD’s 6th high school, many people recalled the story of Teddy Roosevelt and the Battle of San Juan Hill during the Spanish-American War in 1898. That battle made famous the heroism of Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders. At the time, reporter Richard Harding Davis described the Rough Rider charge up San Juan Hill: “Colonel Roosevelt, on horseback, broke from the woods behind the line of the Ninth, and finding its men lying in his way, shouted: ‘If you don’t wish to go forward, let my men pass, please.’…It was a miracle of self-sacrifice, a triumph of bulldog courage, which one watched breathless with wonder.”

As we continue to lay the foundations of the traditions at SJHHS, our Stallion Fans will also use the nickname, Rough Riders to represent the values that San Juan Hills finds important. We are confident that the images of the Stallion and the Rough Riders will provide vivid symbols which will reflect a community that is committed to providing the best educational, athletic and co-curricular experiences for our kids.

Mascot

Stanley the Stallion saw his first action as the mascot in the school’s first varsity football game on September 5, 2008. The Stallions defeated Godinez High School 35-12 as Stanley cheered from the sidelines with the band and cheerleaders. As the face of the Stallions, Stanley will lead the San Juan Hills athletics teams into the future.
