First Place at ECAC Championship on November 9, 2020 • First ECAC Championship in program history • Junior Megan Haviland placed first and capture the Individual Championship • Haviland became the second runner in the women’s team’s history to win the individual title (Erin MacDonell in 2017) • Haviland and sophomore Caleigh Capek (10th) earned All-ECAC honors • Team finished third at the Skyline Conference Championship (Oct. 31) • Haviland (4th) and senior Karli Murphy (13th) appeared on the Skyline All-Conference First- and Second-Teams, respetively • Haviland was a 4x Skyline Runner of the Week

2019-20 Season Recaps

Men’s Golf

Men’s golf finished fifth in a field of seven competing teams at the Skyline Conference Championships on September 22 at Bethpage Red. Former Skyline Rookie of the Year and two-time Skyline All-Conference First-Team selection Joseph Tantillo was SJC’s sole representative on the All-Conference Second-Team. Other season highlights include SJC’s victory over SUNY Old Westbury and SUNY Purchase in a Skyline Conference tri-match on October 11.

Women’s Tennis

Women’s Volleyball Men’s Soccer The Golden Eagles wrapped up the regular season at 15-14 with an 8-3 conference record and entered the Skyline Conference Championships at the No. 4 seed. SJC faced No. 5 seed Farmingdale State falling to the Rams in a five-set thriller. Sophomore Amanda Goldstein landed on the Skyline All-Conference Second-Team finishing the season with a team-best 260 kills and 51 blocks. Senior Danielle Senecal led the Golden Eagles with 438 digs on the season and ends her career as the SJC All-Time Career Dig Leader (1,783).

One year removed from the first Skyline Conference title in program history, the women’s tennis team again reached the conference championship match. With a 10-4 overall record and a 6-1 conference mark, SJC clinched the second seed in the conference playoffs and dismissed Mount St. Mary, 5-1, in the semifinals but were defeated 5-1 by Farmingdale in the final. Senior Mackenzie Martocci led SJC with a 10-3 singles record and a 9-4 doubles mark, earning her Skyline All-Conference First-Team accoThe women’s and men’s cross lades. Junior Megan Haviland (4th), freshman to a 5-4-1 Skyline record, earning the fifth seed in the Skyline playoffs Ryan Wilson (6th), and freshman Matt Lopez (7th) all appeared where they were defeated by on First-Teams while Wilson took fifth-seeded Manhattanville. Four home Rookie of the Year honors Golden Eagles earned All-Conon the men’s side. Two women and ference honors including senior three men would earn All-ECAC Christina Gagliardi, who was accolades as both teams swept the dubbed Skyline and ECAC Offensive Player of the Year. Cross Country

Women’s Soccer

SJC struggled out of the gate in Mark Lugris’ first season at the helm and went on to finish the season with a 2-12-2 record and a 2-7-2 mark in Skyline play. Despite failing to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2006, junior keeper Tyler Flaherty earned Skyline All-Conference First-Team honors while seniors Damian Duda and Rayneri Ruiz landed on the Second-Team. Ruiz, the 2018 Skyline Off. Player of the Year, led SJC in goals (12), points (28) and shared the team lead in assists (4) withDuda.

Indoor Track & Field

The Golden Eagles competed at NJAC Championships where the women and men finished in tenth and eleventh place, respectively. At the ECAC Championships, the women’s distance medley of Nadine Keefer, Savannah McMaster, Marlee Lopez, and Emily Venturi highlighted the event and took home third place with a time of 14:01.81, shattering their personal best by 14 seconds. Junior Meagan Haviland turned in a second-place finish in the 1000-meter with a time of 3:12.74. On the men’s side, Matt Lopez finished fifth in the 1000-meter race with a time of 2:39.17.

Women’s Basketball The Golden Eagles wrapped up the season at 9-16 with a 7-13 conference mark. Freshman Alyssa Adomaites led SJC knocking down 18.2 points per game with 307 total points en route to being named Skyline Rookie of the Year. Sophomore Megan Steinman finished with a team-best 339 points on the season and broke SJC single-game points record with 42 against Lehman College.

Outdoor Track & Field

Did not compete due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Women’s Lacrosse

SJC posted an 0-3 record in a season cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic. Losses came to FDU-Florham, New Paltz, and Stockton on Feb. 29, March 5, and March 7, respectively. Junior Tori Staker led the team in assists (3), points (10), ground balls (11), caused turnovers (4), and draw controls (21). Freshman Melissa Newman tallied a team-best eight goals.

Men’s Lacrosse

Getting in only four games before the COVID-19 pandemic derailed the spring season, the SJC men’s lacrosse team posted a 1-3 overall record. After dropping 10-6 and SJC finished third at the 2019 Sky- 16-2 decisions to Western Conn. and Kean, respectively, the Golden line Conference Championships, Eagles toppled Marywood, 8-3, on the team’s highest finish since March 7. Men’s Tennis

Did not play due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Baseball

Baseball played three games in early March before the COVID-19 pandemic ended the season prematurely. SJC split a non-conference doubleheader with Ramapo, 2-1 and 8-10, on March 8 and was defeated by William Paterson, 7-6, on March 10. In the 2-1 win over Ramapo, senior Tim Woodford tossed 6.0 innings, struck out nine, and was named Skyline Pitcher of the Week for his efforts. In the three games, senior Tyler Sanderson posted a team-best .462 batting average, hit three doubles, and drove in two runs. Senior Jesse Nakashian hit .333 and drove in four runs including the winning run vs. Ramapo.

Men’s Volleyball

The two-time reigning Skyline Conference champion men’s volleyball team played 19 games, posting a 12-7 record (2-1 Skyline), before the remainder of the campaign was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in mid-March. SJC received 11 votes in the AVCA Preseason Poll, effectively ranking them 26th in the nation prior to the start of the season. The Golden Eagles started the season with a 5-0 record and went on to defeat Division I St. Francis Brooklyn on Feb. 12. Senior Matt Cole was named Skyline Player of the Year and appeared on the First-Team with fellow seniors Kyle Biggers and Paul Curaro. Senior Will Flohr was a Second-Team selection.

2019-20 Season Recaps

Under the direction of new head coach Michael McSloy, SJC jumped out to a hot 3-2 start but eventually finished the season with a 7-17 overall record (2-14 Skyline). Senior guard Frank Basile capped off a stellar career with a Skyline All-Conference Second-Team selection for the second-straight season. In a season in which Basile became the program’s 15th 1,000-point scorer, the four-year letter winner appeared on the All-ECAC FirstTeam, was named ECAC D-III Metro Player of the Month for December, and landed on the Skyline Weekly Honor Roll seven times. Sophomore Michael Darby was named Skyline Rookie of the Week on Feb. 10
