Who would have known by then, just how successful he would become in over 75 countries worldwide. Meet the man behind Silk-ka and his “Thecollections.lovefor

flowers and arrangements has been raised with me thanks to my father’s flower shop. It was there were I first got inspired to further develop my skills in flower arrangements. Once on track it even brought me international recognition.

Always looking for new creations and innovations made me discover the endless opportunities of silk. Creating and designing originally Dutch collections. Handmade and high quality. Against all odds I’d decided to go for it!

A new concept was born... a new company was founded: Silk-ka.

Nowadays we are one of the most renowned designers and exporters of silk flower collections worldwide. An achievement that was made possible in part by our many loyal and much appreciated customers. We couldn’t have done it without you.

And to everyone for whom this is a first introduction to us... we can’t wait to tell and show you more.

Patrick’s story started over 25 years ago when the young florists’ son took a bold step in starting to design silk flowers.

It is our business to design and create silk flower & plant collections. These original Dutch collections are handmade according to the highest standards of quality. For each season we design different collections that will give you endless variations. Our flowers and plants will last for life.

Our customers

Silk-ka is doing business with various customers worldwide. Of course you’ll find us in retail where we not only deliver, but also advise the buyers in how to present our collections.

Another booming market is our event/project market. You can dress up and decorate any high-end event from premieres to launches, from romantic weddings to TV shows. It all starts with inspiration. For creatives like us a bare necessity. With our eyes wide open we can spot trends and beauty in everything, everybody and everywhere. From travelling the world, meeting people, watching nature, till glossy magazines and the newest and hottest tv series. What’s hot and what’s not?

What makes people’s heart beat?

In fact, it’s one big life story in which we all participate... from decorating our homes, our shops, to what fashion we wear, to what music we listen to, in short: it is all about what makes people’s heart beat.

Ah… here’s where the designing starts. More specific images and storylines come to mind. Moodboards with colour schemes, fabrics, materials and pictures are created and that’s how a new collection comes to life physically.

Colour is the mood!

The use of colour is more important than ever. Colour inspires you, it will change and set the mood. Colour is a mood! With all new Silk-ka collections we want to bring, change and set the mood with the colour choices we make.

For the Spring | Summer Collection we added lots of pastel peaches, soft apricots and zesty oranges on both our new- and existing items.

Also expect contrasting, bright and bold colours and designs. Bouquets consisting of 1 or 2 complementing colours or in an eclectic, colourful style. Let’s face it: too much good taste is boring. Go crazy!

Shape up or ship out!

It’s all about the shapes, elegant lines, strong silhouettes and luscious curves. Every leaf, every flower has to be able to take its place in the spotlight, a less is more attitude.

Graceful details reminiscent of the Japanese floral art of Ikebana come to mind. Following this we created some extraordinary items to inspire you.

Irises with their slender stems and dramatic flowers, Fritillaria’s hung with bell shaped blooms on their strong stems and the almost geometric branches of the Statice covered in popping neon coloured flower bracts. Lifelike flowers and greenery with a bold personality to discover the limitless possibilities of your creativity.

We hope this has already given you some colour on your cheeks. We are eager to introduce you to our new collection. Colour, lightness and positivity: this season is bursting with energy! Enjoy it, experiment with it, let your creativity inspire and dive into our colourful story!

GERANIUMS

Take a good look at our geraniums! They have been in our collection for a number of years, so we thought it was high time this season to give them a fashionably hip & colourful makeover. Expect bright pink, vibrant red and peach orange flowers and leaves that have turned from gray to spring green! What a head-turners!

Silk-ka’s Spring | Summer Collection 2023 takes you to a flowery hideaway. Join us in the beating heart of Paris for a romantic escape! Incognito, without a cell phone or iPad. No stress, no calls, no obligations. Let’s relax... just you & me.

We will leave early so we can watch the sun kiss the first flowers awake. Delicate and elegant… they introduce themselves to us. Then we arrive at our destination. A beautiful mansion. French doors give access to a magical urban oasis. Flowers, in all colours, welcome us and make us feel right at home. Time to enjoy life & to agree..

Flowers are key!

We are up early and are on our way to our destination. It’s still quiet in the streets, and the city is slowly awakening. Enjoying the rising sun and the twittering of the birds, we look forward to a wonderful time.

Along the way we are greeted by shy, budding flowers that curiously defy the fresh spring wind. Snowdrops, grape hyacinths and even a daffodil… slender flowers announcing that spring is approaching. Paris in spring… the season that causes the city to bounce back giggling, after waking up from its grey hibernation. Clean & crispy fresh air and blossoms that decorate the streets.

The sun opens a new chapter. Everyone is getting

ready for a new season filled with flower shows, outdoor markets, inviting terraces and festivals. Ahhhh… look! We have now arrived at our secret hideaway. This will be our temporary home.

We are already looking forward to breakfast. Delicious smelling, warm & fresh croissants, homemade jam and a bowl of café au lait. But first… let’s explore this fantastic city villa.

TULIPS

The start of the tulip season reminds us of the remarkable history of this beautiful bulb.

Our love affair with the tulip dates back centuries, from the beautiful palace gardens of Ottoman sultans to the frenzied ‘tulipomania’ that flooded Holland in the early 17th century. Admired by all

and valued as a cut flower, the tulip has never gone out of style. The truly unique shapes and colours are simply very cheerful and festive and it remains difficult to choose which one to add to the Silk-ka collection.

Just to let you in on a little secret: for this season we didn’t make a selection at all, but went all ‘Golden Age’ tulip mania and got them all! Why choose if you can have ‘em all? Go on… go a little tulip crazy this season!

Such a beautiful day! What a dream to see the light illuminating the garden like this. What are we going to do today, to make the most of this day and beautiful place?

The sun has risen higher in the sky and is inviting us to open the doors & windows. The fresh air with the tantalizing sun rays penetrate the house. Wonderful floral scents fill the room. This alone provides positive energy and an extra heartbeat. Do you see that lovely Wisteria over there and what about those Magnolias? This is what

creates a happy garden getaway, I can see that it does something to you too…

Did you just wink at me? How about a game of petanque? Let’s put on some French chansons, and fill a carafe with freshly squeezed orange juice.

LIASMAGNO-

Sometimes exaggerating works wonders! Take for example our fairy-tale like Magnolias, a Silk-ka favourite for many years until its popularity started to dwindle a little bit. So a revival was more than a bare necessity, but how? For the answer we took inspiration from the fresh flower market. Mmm… a certain lyric comes to mind…

‘Achetez mes gens, voyons, achetez mes fleurs Car je vais te trouver, mon amour, oui toi!’

In the right flowering season you can buy these beautiful old gnarly branches loaded with flowers there. They create the illusion that they came from an ancient tree, a single branch with it’s opening flower buds has such an elegant character. All these natural details are replicated in our new XXL Magnolia branch which of course combines perfectly with the existing collection of Magnolias.

The sun is now high in the sky. Time to cool down and have a relaxed lunch. Red wine and sparkling water. Something savory… like cheese or a quiche. A hot dish… like escargots, and definitely a dessert. How about delicious crepes with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream? Flambé? Even tastier! Come sit next to me. I’m hungry, and you can’t seem to wait either. Time for some afternoon delight. Let’s create a discreet paradise for both of us in this secret garden. A small ‘cachette’ for a sweet romantic dessert.

Our own treasure trove among the flowers. Will you surprise me with a beautiful bouquet? The key to my heart is a rose.

Ah... that’s the most important one, the rose. In the background we hear the chanson.

IRIS

This fleur-de-lis (French lily) certainly deserves an extra star role in this story’s urban oasis. The tall, beautiful Iris - named after the Greek goddess who rode rainbows - comes in many magical colours.

It symbolizes hope, confidence, courage and admiration. For those reasons the Iris is depicted in the French royal standard fleur-de-lis and is also

the symbol of Florence, Italy. The Iris is a flower of stately stature: with sword-shaped leaves, flowers easily recognizable by their specific shape. Their distinctive six-petaled flowers have three outer hanging petals called falls, and three inner upright petals called standards.

Summer in the city: when dusk falls and the lights seem to shimmer, the Eiffel Tower puts on a sparkly show, and the sound of chatter and laughter carries on the night air. There’s something very special about Paris after dark. It’s unbelievable how time flies...

The radiant sun has given way to a sultry starry night. We can go down to the river and walk hand in hand along the wharf. Or board a boat on the Seine that serves late dinners & great cocktails. But... that would mean that we would have to leave this house, our paradise, already. No can do! Let’s have our own exclusive party here, in a bright & breezy style. We’ll turn it into a dancing

fashion show, with sets full of exuberant flowers. Romantic soft music fills the air and we dance cheek to cheek. The outer world doesn’t seem to exist until...

LUPINE

Did you hear the true story about Lady Lupine?

It was a children’s book by Barbara Cooney about a Miss Rumphius who lived in Christmas Cove and secretly planted lupine seeds to adorn Maine’s roadsides and meadows.

The real Miss Rumphius, Hilda Hamlin, is at least partly responsible for the gorgeous show of lupines throughout Maine’s countryside in early summer. The wildflowers thrive in Maine, but they aren’t native to the state. How they got there and spread in such profusion is a mystery explained only by an certain old lady who was the real Miss Rumphius. You should find out more about this remarkable story, full of lust for life, happiness and in awe of the lupine.

It explains why it is still such a popular cottage garden flower.

It’s hard for us to say goodbye to this beautiful place, and to experience the hustle and bustle of everyday life again. We’ve enjoyed this stay together so much. You and I.

With the smell of flowers still fills our senses, and the sparkle of love in our eyes, and that everlasting smile curling around our lips… We drive off on our scooter. Time has flown by. We’ve rearranged our priorities. We are going to live our life to the fullest and add even more colour to it than before.

We embrace it as lavishly as the colourful flowers, that open their petals towards us... it’s as if they want to hug you. But also with a greater awareness and appreciation of everything small and fragile in life. Like the delicate flowers that are the first to usher in the new spring season.
