Mermaid Basic Certification (Ages 5+)

Whether your child wants to imagine becoming a mermaid, or wants to try a mermaid tail to see what it’s like, mermaid certification classes are a great introduction. The mermaid basic certification teaches swimmers how to care for their tail, and how to safely swim with a mermaid tail. Class will incorporate fun activities (i.e. swimming through hula hoops, swimming on back, learning safety techniques) to certify your child as a mermaid. Mermaid tail not provided. You may either rent or purchase one from Aquatics, or bring your own. Prerequisites (must test out with lifeguard at the pool prior to signing up) • Float: 30 seconds on back, 30 seconds on front—take breath while on front. • Roll from front to back, roll from back to front. • Tread water for approximately one minute. • Swim 25 yards or meters in any manner. • Perform the dolphin kick.
Come to the Downtown pool and swim with other mermaids in reserved lanes! With music and props, this free, open swim time is your child’s chance to swim with mermaid friends. Prerequisites: 25 yard swim test or have participated in a previous mermaid class. Tail rentals will be available (limited quantity on hand) Lifeguards will be available to assist in tail sizing and answer any questions.

Mermaid Advanced Certification
Tuesdays 6:30 – 7:00 pm Saturdays 11:00 am – 12:00 pm
Advanced certification will learn a choreographed routine with moves such as fluke splashes, core rolls, and some synchronized swimming moves. The last day of class will be a mermaid recital for family members to attend. Prerequisites: Completed beginner certification class or instructor approval Mermaid tail purchase (must order a week prior to start of class if you want a choice of color).
