SPRING 2014

Kentucky Thoroughbred Alumni Club Summer Reunion is always the third weekend in July. We look forward to seeing a lot of brothers in Murray on the weekend of July 18th – 20th. Special thanks go to Peter Dirks and Adam David. Peter has volunteered to pay for this year’s tent at Homecoming and Adam has joined our Chapter Advisory Board. Jess Thompson was thanked by the Franklin County (KY) Sheriff’s Office for risking his life to help a deputy pull a woman out of a burning house in February. Scott Harris appeared on WBKO-TV in December to promote the Snowman Splash which benefits programs to keep children off drugs. Clint Darden qualified for the Pan Am Games in weightlifting. John Simanowitz was interviewed by KSDK-TV about technology jobs in St. Louis. Dr. Rick Hudson spoke at the Kentucky Science Center in February. Our Chapter Educational Fund gave away two scholarships at Homecoming to Andy Urquhart and Nick Barron. This makes five scholarships we have awarded and we would like to thank all of our donors.

Rho Chapter Alumni Association

Rho’s first alumni association was formed in September 1929 and we have had periods of activity and inactivity since then. However, in February 2009, the current alumni association was reactivated at our Founder’s Day meeting. We elected seven officers for the board of directors including: president, secretary, treasurer, and 4 directors, all of whom serve on rotating terms. The current officers are: president, Brent Brewbaker; secretary, Jack Daniels; treasurer, Steele Hall; and directors Terry Allen, Speedy Mitchell, Tommy Rodwell and Grady Sykes. We meet monthly throughout the year with a few of the meetings being teleconference calls. The active brotherhood has representation at many of our meetings. Our association is simply to support the active chapter at North Carolina State in any way we can, and to promote the brotherhood of Sigma Pi among our alumni. The active chapter at North Carolina State now has a membership in excess of 75 brothers and pledges. This year we had 60 dues- paying members of our association. In the fall of last year we provided financial support to the active chapter
