DRAWING EARTH, PEOPLE, AND CONFLICT
MEDIA COURSE The overall research is focused on Earth, people, and conflict over the years. The course was set up on a weekly schedule with new topics covered each week. This covered research from when Earth was formed into today’s conflicts and environmental issues. The topics were covered in scale , in the beginning it was the Earth and the Universe’s entirety, but topics slowly became narrowed down to personal human scaled conlficts, which then relfected back on the rest of the worls. The research is also in drawing representation. The course was focused on new ways of thinking and expression in drawings. It challenged us as achitects to use architectural drawings in a new way and how can they be manipulated to inform and represent broader issues beyond architectural dilemmas.

4.6-3.8 Billion Years Ago In Collaboration
The representation works as a general timeline of Earth during this specific time period. Earth is created from a series of hot rocks colliding at a fast and powerful rate. Earth is in the Hadean period at this point until The Great Impact Hypothesis takes place. This is when a planetesimal, known as Theia, collided with the Hadean eon in order create the moon and its orbit. As a result of the collision the moon is formed and Earth begins to cool/ harden. Towards the end of the period all of the molten cools and land begins to form on the Earth’s crust.
The drawing is a collage of photo realistic scenes. These moments are organized on a timeline, which explains Earth’s formation, along with the Moon’s.
LIFE
1000-1250 A.D. In Collaboration
The drawing is composed of specific countries in axonometric view. All of the countries are connected to a chunk of Earth being exploded from the map. Each piece of land has different scenes, representing historical events, inventions, and human impact on the environment. The drawing is mostly focused on Chinese Dynasties, because they had most of the influence during this time. The drawing moves from right to left, to represent the influence extending to the Western World over the years.
This composition uses exploded axonometrics to reveal what major events were occuring. There is also movement throughout the drawing to encourage the reading from right to left.

PRAGMATIC
1960’S-1980’S In Collaboration
Pragmatic uses architectural representation to shine light on some of Earth’s historic events in the 1960’s-1980’s. The drawing is composed of two separate drawings, which can stand alone, or come together to create a transition between the two decades. Each drawing cuts through spaces, both in plan and section to reveal a series of scenes that track important events each year. The overall drawing appears chaotic but is made up of chronological events that occurred in the 1960’s-1980’s time period. Pragmatic manipulates architectural elements to represent Earth’s trials and tribulations in what appears to be a disarray, but is delicately arranged.

Earth’s surface is made up mostly of water, it actually makes up about 70% of the Earth. However, only a scarce amount of water is available around the globe, less than 4% is fresh useable water. More than 80% of the world lives in high risk areas. Many countries are faced with these devastating conditions. These conditions only worsen over time and lock these countries into poverty. Canada and the U.S. are some of the countries least at risk. However, the lack of resources around the globe is alarming and important. The drawing is a 2D creation of a Rube Goldberg Machine that runs water throughout it. There are some blockages and interruptions along the way that effect some of the flowers (high-risk countries) that rely on the water to survive. The composition reveals a literal trickle effect of the Earth’s scarce fresh water supply.
EXTINCTION
SNOW LEOPARD
Snow Leopards are at risk of becoming extinct. These majestic cats have been endangered for over the past few years. The main contributing factors are habitat loss, and death by humans. Climate change has effected a variety of environments, including the Himalayan Mountains in Asia. Other animals have been effected, decreasing the prey for Snow Leopards, making it difficult to find food. This leads to the leopards hunting on livestock, resulting in retaliatory killings. Snow leopards are also being hunted for their beautiful coats. Humans are also playing a role in habitat loss, due to salt mining. Snow leopards continue to be at risk, and are hard to find, which makes these creatures so mysterious. The drawing uses multiple perspectives to create a “find me” game, because these big cats are so rarely seen. The piece is also congested with human/ environmental impacts which pose risk to snow leopards. This makes it difficult to find them throughout the composition.

NATURAL DISASTERS
CALIFORNIA WILDFIRES
Most wildfires are caused by humans, but they spread easily due to existing natural circumstances. Dry heat, wind, and fuel (trees) create the perfect triangle for a wildifre. Climate change worsens these conditions by increasing the heat and drought, which causes the fire to spread quicker. The drawing is a visual representation which uses imagery to show the effects of wildfires. Human impact/ dwelling is seen at a larger scale, but animals and the environment are visible at a micro scale in the drawing. Each square on the faded grid represents 4 sqmi making up the total 2,191 sqmi of land burned in the Top 10 California Wildfires. The drawing was created from a head on perspective which transitions into an aerial view of the fires. The bottom
