Spring is here and this year Sienna List has partnered with business owners that can help you live the home life you are longing for. Whether it be crossing those spring projects off of your list, or finding your dream home we’re here to help. Back in early 2001, a neighbor told Art deTranaltes about this wonderful new product that he discovered and that he was thinking about adding this idea of automated home Mosquito Control to his already existing landscape business. A skeptic at first and not yet convinced, Art was still curios enough that he installed a system in his own backyard. Come spring time, he noticed that something was different. His kids were outside playing and swinging on the rope swing without the usual complaints about Mosquitos. He was so amazed that he called up the neighbor and went to work for him installing and maintaining Mosquito Misting Systems. Fast forward 5-years, Art got the opportunity to work for a local manufacturer of Mosquito Misting Systems. He was sought out and hired as the Sales Manager where he brought over 200 of his existing clients with him. He spent nearly 7-years with them and in early 2013 decided to go out on his own with a passion and desire to improve the quality of life for as many families as possible. Mosquito Defense Solutions, LLC is the product of a committed owner who believes that his fellow Houstonians should be able to enjoy outdoor living and not have to suffer with the nuisance of Mosquitos. Art is a native Houstonian and a 13yr. resident of Sienna Plantation. He has (3) children ages 23, 21 and 15. His wife Marijane is also a native Houstonian and they have been married for 26 years and counting. health report Fight Back Against

Colon Cancer Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosed in men and women in the United States. It is the second leading cause of death in men and third leading cause of cancerrelated deaths in women in the U.S.. The good news is colorectal cancer is also highly treatable when caught early, and in some cases, even preventable. Here’s what you need to know to protect yourself.

TAKE AN ACTIVE APPROACH According to Ali Mahmood, MD, a board-certified colorectal surgeon with Houston Methodist Surgical Associates, being aware of the signs of colorectal cancer can make all the difference when it comes to your health. “Paying attention to just a few areas can dramatically cut your risk of colon cancer as well as improve your overall health,” he said. Here are some specific steps he recommends. Add more vegetables, legumes, fruits and whole grains to your plate to cut fat and boost fiber intake. “Studies show that fiber helps by keeping the digestive process moving so cancer causing wastes spend less time in the colon,” Mahmood said. Take a 30-minute walk just three times a week to help lower your risk significantly, and reduce your risk for other diseases. Limit your alcohol intake to no more than two drinks a day — drinking more than that may contribute to your risk of getting cancer. Take steps to stop smoking, which plays a role in 30 percent of all cancers

EARLY DETECTION IS KEY “Everyone should get screened for colon cancer at age 50,” Mahmood urged. “If you’re at high risk, talk to your doctor about possibly getting screened earlier and more often.” You may be at higher risk if you: Have a family history of colon cancer Have a family or personal history of polyps Suffer from ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease Eat a high-fat, low-fiber diet Are 50 or older A colonoscopy is the gold standard. “During a colonoscopy, your doctor looks inside the colon using a special camera (colonoscope) that can diagnose and treat polyps when they are detected,” Mahmood said. “People who get screened regularly greatly reduce their risk of developing colorectal cancer.” Ensure early detection by reporting any of the following symptoms to your doctor: Rectal bleeding Blood in the stool A change in bowel habits, including diarrhea and constipation

Energy Ogre: Living Up To Our Super-Inflated, Lofty Claims Daily

Energy Ogre saves Sienna Residents up to 40% on their electricity bills We find the best deals PERIOD.

Everybody wants to save money on their electricity bill but finding the right plan at the lowest price can be a painful, time-consuming experience. Especially if you don’t read the fine print.

WE SELECT Customers can hire Energy Ogre for $10 a month or $120 a year to manage their electricity needs – reviewing, selecting, renewing and revising plans when it makes financial sense.

Enter Energy Ogre. Energy Ogre is a Houston-based technology company that uses analytics, algorithms and proprietary software to find the best electricity deals possible. Sound complicated? Well, thanks to Energy Ogre, it’s never been easier.

WE SHOP At Energy Ogre we monitor over a thousand offers daily and identify the ones that work best for each of our members. We are only paid by our members –with no commissions or compensation from the electricity providers – which means our only priority is focusing on our client’s needs.

“The first thing that comes to mind when I think of energy providers is convoluted, complicated, expensive, and difficult. It would typically take me a couple of days of just comparison shopping and looking into the fine print to really feel like I was getting the best deal and still wasn’t convinced I’d found the best plan for me. Being an ogre has been amazing. The only time you ever think about it is when you get your electricity bill. It’s half the price of what it typically was when I was shopping on my own. I would never go back to choosing a retail provider by myself, ever.” - Lisa Miller, Sienna Resident

YOU SAVE! Energy Ogre does all the work. You get all the savings! Energy Ogre CEO Jesson Bradshaw estimates that 90 percent of Texans are overpaying for their electricity either because they aren’t shopping around or they signed up for an advertised rate that doesn’t reflect their actual usage.

WE MANAGE Energy Ogre manages all interactions with the electricity provider so you don’t have to. We select and enroll members in the best offer that fits their electricity demand profile. Then we proactively monitor member accounts for additional savings as market conditions change. Plus we manage all renewals. And we back it with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Yep. 100%.

Bradshaw has worked in the state’s deregulated market since it started. Often, friends would ask him for advice on signing up on the Power to Choose website set up by the Texas Public Utility Commission. “What I discovered,” said Bradshaw, “was that there are many rate plans that aren’t available on the Power to Choose website and it’s nearly impossible to do a true apples-toapples comparison. “ In 2013, he decided to create Energy Ogre to help end-use customers fully unlock the benefits of the deregulated electricity markets. “We understand how the market operates and we use this knowledge every day to ensure you are only paying for what you need and nothing

more,” says Bradshaw. “No more hidden fees that increase the overall cost. We read the fine print, identify these hidden charges, so that our members avoid these traps.” “The Power to Choose website can make even the smartest consumer feel pretty powerless with its limited options, said Bradshaw. “Energy Ogre can do comparisons the average consumer cannot, factoring how much electricity you use and when, and then comparing hundreds of plans to find the one that gives you the best price.” It has been a dream of some in the industry to build a business like Energy Ogre for a long time, but the technology to accomplish this has only recently become available. “It is practically impossible to do what we do without using highly automated systems and technology to match the best programs for an individual’s usage profile,” added Bradshaw. “The exciting thing that’s different in our approach is that we are truly focused on the customer and being their advocate.,” said Bradshaw. “Texans have not had access to the resources to help them make the wisest decisions in purchasing electricity.” Energy Ogre is about to change all that.

Alisa Murray’s Top 10 Things To Do In March 2018

With Auntie A 1

With the weather warming it’s time to order mulch and turn over all the beds prepping them for annuals. A hearty annual that I love because of the rich pops of color is the petunia. You will start seeing them available now through early summer and as they do not like very hot weather for long it’s a lovely pick me up of color as we celebrate Easter and start to want to be outside again.

6

Make an Easter Meal Plan and ask each family member attending to bring at least one item. If they are not handy in the kitchen I usually ask them to bring an activity or art project that we can do as a family after the meal.

2

It’s time to start looking at and exploring the summer camp scene and discover the perfect activities for all the children. I also create a reading list for them and they get to do special activities if they complete what is on their night side tables by summers end. It takes a while to find the perfect types of books that your children will enjoy and get them in so read reviews and ask them what things they might be curious about.

7

Purchase tickets to see a play and ask the children to discuss afterwards what they learned or have them critique what they have seen. You’ll be intrigued buy what insights they share from a child’s perspective.

On my night table now is C.S. Lewis’s Mere Christianity and Napoleon Hill’s Outwitting the Devil.

Clean out at least one closet and donate stuff you don’t need or like anymore to Pennywise, benefitting The Fort Bend Women’s Center.

4

It’s time to pull off all the screens and wash windows both inside and out. While you are in the mood doing that I also recommend getting all your area rugs steam cleaned as well!

8

With Easter falling on April 1 this year, this month lends itself to create traditional dyed eggs using intricate designs. First color the egg in a base such as a baby blue or a very light yellow and the use a wax crayon to draw designs. These are so lovely you can stack them in a clear vase and use as your centerpiece for the Easter feast next month!

10 9

Make a big batch of butter sugar cookies and buttercream icing and let the children decorate them! You can even cut them out into Easter eggs and bunnies and bake them ahead and then ice them together on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

Try making a one pan meal such as roasted carrots and asparagus with prosciutto wrapped shrimp. If you can get in the habit of prepping veggies ahead of time the concept of throwing everything into a pan and roasting it and then finishing it off with protein. It just takes practice figuring out what the best combos are for your family and their taste buds!

I have been married for over 11 years. By no means does that make me a marriage expert. However, I am confident to say, that I have learned a thing or two along the way. Trust me, I get it! I have been there and am still there sometimes. It can be challenge to get out the door for date nights BUT I can almost promise you this. If you make the time as soon as you sit ALONE with your spouse, without kids and away from home, something happens. It’s like a big puff of fresh air that comes into your relationship giving it NEW life. Helping to reconnect you to one another. Which is important to keep your relationship on a healthy path. I would like to encourage you to dedicate one night a month for just you and your spouse. Where you DON’T chat about bills or kids. Instead, you chat more about your interests, goals and how to make

your relationship better and stronger. Sounds silly, but it has been working for us and hope it can work for you too. For our first date of the year, we decided to try out the new Houston gem that has been all over social media, Emmaline. Emmaline opened its doors in Dec 2017, and has quickly made a name for itself among some of the best restaurants in the Houston scene. Its elegant laid back feel, along with the staff’s genuine hospitality, make it a perfect approachable neighborhood restaurant. Walking through the doors you instantly feel a sense of comfort. Realizing quickly that this will be a dining experience unlike any other. The bright and airy, garden themedinspired, restaurant was creatively designed by Ashley Putnam. The restaurant is laid out in a way where the guest can select several different seating options. Guests can sit at the large open bar located at the heart of the restaurant, or the tables set longside the soaring windows in the main dining area, the sun room at the front of the restaurant is another option, as well as they secluded booth tables behind the bar area, the beautiful outdoor patios that are located on 1st and 2nd levels of the

restaurant make for a great outdoor time with friends and family. When it comes to the menu, Emmaline is an American restaurant with European influence. Their menu offers plenty of American classics along with Mediterranean options.

The service was outstanding. The staff was knowledgeable in both food and wine. The wine list featured approximately 200 reasonably priced selections all curated by Sam Governale, operating manager of Emmaline.

Starters like, asparagus and prosciutto, sea scallop carpaccio,

Sam Governale industry veteran, has a clear vision for the restaurant as “a commitment to our neighbors to be, very simply, a place where we will genuinely care for the well-being of our guests while offering a homeaway-from-home experience.”.

At Emmaline fontina fondu or daily meat and cheese boards are just to name a few. Main dishes like, wood-fired cioppino bianco, steamed Mediterranean sea bass, roasted organic chicken, butcher’s cut steak fritti, and agnolotti are some options that are made with seasonal ingredients in their open wood -fire kitchen. The high attention paid to the quality of the ingredients combined with its wonderful presentation make it a mouthwatering experience.
