Designate an area in your backyard, or if you’re daring in the front, and plant yourself a cutting garden. See blog at thelist.city for more info on how to’s.

Gather cereal boxes and take to the food bank so the supplies are full for when the children are home and are not able to receive free breakfasts and lunches. We always have a need for these items and one box of cereal will feed a child over the weekend in a household that is financially compromised.

As always… take the children for a picnic and do not let one little moment be taken away by electronics. Ask them some hard questions about God or what they think about things that are important to them and most importantly LISTEN… they’ll only be little for a while!

Antie A’s Asparagus and Lobster Custard Ingredients

2 cups of chopped asparagus (PRESERVE your tips because you’ll need them later) 6 eggs 1 cup of bone chicken broth 1/2 cup of milk 1/2 cup of cream 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice 2 tablespoons of lemon zest 1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese 2 cups of chopped and cooked lobster

- Preheat that oven to 325 - Place in the blender the asparagus, eggs, stock, milk, cream, lemon juice and zest and cheese in your blender and make a smoothie. Then take 6 oven safe containers and divide evenly the lobster into each of them. Pour the smoothie over the top of the lobster evenly into each of the containers. Divide those tips of asparagus into the cups as well. Sprinkle over all of them some cheese. Place each container in a bain-marie and bake for 25-35 mins until custard is set. - Excellent for a lady’s brunch paired w/simple spring mix salad & a glass of white Texas wine. April 2018

Summer will be here before we know it, and our students will have about 10 weeks of summer vacation from school, and most families will take a 1 week vacation. What will our kids do for the other nine weeks? Many parents opt for summer camps, but choosing the right summer camp that peeks your children’s interests and fits your household needs can be daunting. To make your summer camp hunt a little easier, The List Magazines has teamed up with local businesses to bring you a Summer Camp 2018 Guide for Fort Bend County. Together let’s keep your children active in mind and body!

The Towne Creek School was founded in 1983 by the current owner, Judy Feinstein, who has been in the education field for 40 years. An open, spacious environment promotes a warm, welcoming “family” feeling. The school provides a preschool/elementary program for infants through First Grade, an afterschool program for schoolaged students, and a multi-faceted summer camp program. With three developmental playgrounds, an indoor “gym” (rec room), library/computer lab, swimming pool, and other amenities, there is ample space for a variety of

health report Protect Yourself From Skin Cancer With more than two million people diagnosed every year, skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States. It’s also one of the most treatable cancers when diagnosed early, and largely preventable if you avoid the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays.

minutes ahead of sun exposure and reapply every two hours and after swimming, sweating or toweling off. Water-resistant sunscreen still needs to be reapplied often. You can use a sunscreen with a minimum SPF (sun protection factor) of 15, but the higher the number, the better.

“These rays can cause damage in as little as 15 minutes, but a few simple actions can go a long way toward safeguarding ourselves,” said Melissa Crosby, M.D., plastic and reconstructive surgeon at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital.

Don’t forget to check the expiration date on sunscreen. That bottle from your beach vacation three years ago has most likely lost its effectiveness. If there is no expiration date, three years is considered the standard shelf life for sunscreen, but higher temperatures can shorten the lifespan.

Staying out of the sun is the first and foremost recommendation. But when you can’t avoid being exposed, a combination of sunscreen and protective clothing is your best bet. “Sunscreen alone is helpful, but loose-fitting, long-sleeved shirts and long pants made from tightly woven fabric offer the best protection,” said Crosby. “Obviously, we can’t completely cover ourselves in fabric, so sunscreen is good for those areas of the skin that remain exposed.” A hat helps protect your scalp, face, ears and even your neck. Choose canvas over straw, which can let rays through its holes. Sunglasses not only protect the sensitive skin around your eyes, but they can also help prevent cataracts. Alley on the Town is back at it again!

Question? Have you thought about what I shared last month? About the importance of date nights in a marriage?

If you answered yes, AWESOME!!! Love that you are trying to make some fun changes. Date nights are an impactful way to reconnect with your spouse. If you answered no, I hope this will help inspire you to enjoy some alone time with your spouse and explore some of the wonderful places in Houston and its surrounding areas. Date nights also help break up the monotony of your everyday normal routine. It’s easy to always go to the same places you are familiar (and comfortable) with BUT I encourage you to try something new together. Houston has SO much to offer. Your options are endless.

OK, OK, not going to beat a dead horse here. I think it’s pretty obvious how I feel about date nights, they are important. So, you ready to hear about this month’s date-night dining adventure? Yay! Let’s get right to it!

This month, my husband and I decided to head over to the Sugar Land Town Square. It’s a beautiful town square area with tons to do. You can stay, play, shop, dine, and so much more!

We grabbed a drink outdoors then decided to head inside. The restaurant had a laid back and relaxed feel that oozed throughout. Immediately making us feel comfortable and not out of place. There was a turnable located as you walked in along with a huge selection of records on one wall. New releases and re-releases. If you spotted anything you liked you could request for it to be played OR you could purchase the album to take home with you.

We ended up having the most gorgeous spring like weather for our night out. The square had all its trees lit up which made it super romantic holding hands and walking as we windowed shopped.

We stopped to have dinner at a placed called, Vino & Vinyl. The VERY first thing that caught my eye was the outdoor open bar that was connected to the restaurant. Loved being able to walk up to the bar and grab a glass of wine and still be outside on the brick paved sidewalk. Tables were available outdoors for those that preferred to dine al fresco.

Local artist’s work hung throughout the restaurant which made for great conversation with my hubby. AND as if this place couldn’t get any cooler, the menus were made of recycled album covers!!!

It’s was very clear to me that the vision of Vino &Vinyl was not just about the food but about the whole dining experience. The music, the wine, the menu options all coming together like a great dinner party. It was like walking into your best friend’s house. A place where you come as you are and leave feeling a whole lot better. For more information please visit: https://vino-vinyl.com

“A place where you come as you are Paul Killingsworth, the owner, was at the restaurant that night and we were able to chat with him about Vino & Vinyl.

and leave feeling a whole lot better.”

When I asked Paul how he would describe his vision he said, “We’re all about finding soulful wines and soulful music. Music and wine that have a personality, a unique voice, and a sense of place. Style. Having amazing food to go along, is a bonus” Seriously, who wouldn’t want to eat there after hearing that, right??! Our dining experience was wonderful. The menu had a variety of options to suit a person’s appreciation of taste and flavor.

Two locations: 15977 City Walk, Sugar Land, TX (281) 277-0565 Tuesday – Thursday: 4pm – 11pm Friday & Saturday: 10am – midnight NEW!!!! Brunch: Friday, Saturday & Sunday 10am – 3pm Happy Hours: Open-6 every day (Tuesday’s: all day) Closed Mondays

We started off with a shared artisan cheese board. Then followed that by two of their dinner specials for that night. Their food is made from scratch and sometimes the menu changes based on what is in season . Now, THAT is the kind of place I LOVE to eat at. Fresh local ingredients can take an ordinary meal from ok to one of the best meals you have ever had in your life! The staff helped us select wines that paired well with our meal which sent us into foodie heaven. They have recently added a brunch to their menu that I can’t wait to check out! It’s on Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays from 10am – 3pm. Would love if you guys would head over to try it out.

HEALTH MATTERS WITH DR. STEVE HARRIS WHERE PAIN RELIEF COMES NATURALLY

“I Can Continue My Active Lifestyle... Without SURGERY!!”

R

by Sara Adams

onnie Walls is 73 years old and loves to work. He says, “I retired twice and I didn’t like it. I’m not a retirement person. I plan to work until the good Lord takes me home.” He and his wife, Terry, moved to a 55+ community a few years ago and enjoy their new friends and active adult lifestyle there. Between golf, swimming, cards games and socials, Ronnie says, “You can become so active you have to pace yourself.” All that activity came to a stop when Ronnie passed out and was rushed to a hospital recently. The emergency room doctors reviewed his cat scan and referred him to a local specialist. After an additional MRI and an exam, the doctor recommended spinal surgery right away. Ronnie postponed making a decision about surgery. Having had success with chiropractic care when he was in his twenties, Ronnie wanted to explore that option before deciding to have surgery. When Ronnie told his daughter Rhonda that he was looking for a chiropractor, she said, “No, you don’t have to look for a chiropractor, you’re going to see Dr. Steve Harris.” Rhonda had met Dr. Harris through their work with Rotary International and knew he was the chiropractor to take care of her dad. For the past three years, Ronnie had been bothered by recurring pain in his neck and shoulders that migrated down the middle of his back. Sometimes it was so bad he couldn’t even play golf. When he first saw Dr. Harris, Ronnie had a 1½ inch curve in his spine and was in intense pain. After working with Dr. Harris for two months, Ronnie has no pain in his neck and shoulders and the curve in his spine has been corrected by 99%. He is not on any pain medication. Ronnie says, “Dr. Harris has the best chiropractic office I’ve ever seen. He and his staff do a fantastic job. I have always believed that surgery should be the last resort. With Dr. Harris’s help I can continue my active life without surgery. I drive 25 miles one way from Pasadena to get to Dr. Harris in Sugar Land, and I would recommend Dr. Harris to anybody.” Well respected among his colleagues and the community as a philanthropist and humanitarian, Dr. Steve Harris offers a wide variety of chiropractic care modalities and associated therapies to help people with chronic pain. The benefits of his treatment include an improvement in overall health and musculoskeletal function. Dr. Harris opened
