DELIVERING VALUES PASSED DOWN FROM GENERATIONS

FOR ALL

While many of you may know my family name from the Waldbaum’s supermarkets my grandfather developed, you may not know that our family has been involved in the sustaining of Sid Jacobson JCC for the past 35 years. Indeed, our family has named the Julia & Izzy Social Services for my grandparents and the Bernice & Ira Waldbaum Family Children’s Center for my parents. Recently I was privileged to name the Randie Waldbaum Malinsky Center for Israel in memory of my sister. My forebears wanted the Waldbaum name to stand for community and to connect good people to help each other thrive and help all who may be in need. Those are the values I grew up with and the values I teach my children. It is now my honor to serve as president and to deliver on the values passed down from generations.

My tenure began in July of this year. I succeeded David Levy, who we can’t thank enough for leading us through the pandemic; working with staff and the Board to keep us afloat while virtually all of our programs continued to serve the many who counted on us. I was delighted to join the Board in 1992 and have served on most committees. The JCC has been so successful precisely because of community members getting involved and partnering with a caring staff to deliver programs for individuals and families of all kinds to enhance their lives.

During this next year, I will look at all we do and see how we can improve. I am particularly thrilled to preside over the launch of our newest center, the Dr. Gayle R. Berg Center for Psychological Resilience –designed to provide the skill sets needed to withstand and grow beyond the stresses of modern life. In the coming years, we are also planning for the renovation of several spaces to upgrade the facility and enhance member experience.

As you turn the pages, you will find old familiar standards joined by fresh opportunities. Whatever you want or need, you will find it here. You may even find something you always wanted but never knew existed. I promise the overwhelming amount of choices will excite you for the fall nip in the air.

As with all presidents before me, I remain accessible for your ideas and hope you will take the time to share them. I can be reached at nwaldbaum@sjjcc.org
