ADEs presented workshops in Abu Dhabi As a part of International Council for Educational Media’s (ICEM) annual conference at Abu Dhabi Women’s College, several Apple Distinguished Educators (ADE) presented workshops on topics including iLife and various Adobe applications. Mike Lawrence, Executive Director of ComputerUsing Educators Inc., presented Apple’s iLife ‘09 suite to a group of students at the college, among other sessions. Covering all the applications in the suite, Mike showed some of the powerful capabilities of the applications, including Faces and Places in iPhoto, video editing in iMovie, and much more. He said “The reason I’m an ADE: I find [Apple’s products] particularly useful to prepare students for the real world, more so than any other products I’ve been exposed to. Apple seems to get it. Apple seems to come at it from a different angle, valuing students’ creativity, valuing students as producers rather than just users.” Hoping that he could show students and other participants in the workshops some of what Apple has to offer, Mike added that he hopes to come back soon because the Middle East is a modern and exciting place that has a lot to offer. One of the participating students, Hoda Mohamed Al Hajeri, student in the Bachelor Information Management program said “It was very exciting experience to work with the iLife programs and develop new skills. I was also lucky to win a book all about iLife so I can learn more.” John Couch, Apple Inc.’s Vice President for Education was the keynote speaker at the ICEM conference.
