As a part of our final year curriculum, students of Leather Design Department get an opportunity to work in a challenging and dynamic environment, either an export house, a buying house or a retail house. The main objective of this initiative is to let students understand the intensive industry set up and processes involved simultaneously helping them understand the differences in the theory taught and the reality practised and also design a collection for the company under the mentorship of industry and college mentors.

Our factories and vendors are regularly audited for social and safety norms. We source ethically and test each raw material to understand how they behave on tanning and treatment. Once we find the right material, we test it to find the perfect thicknesses - one that allows the product to hold its structure on ageing and usage. This best fit, hands-on approach is the most effective way to ensure product integrity at every level. As an added assurance we have stringent quality and workplace compliancy. We are building our reputation quietly and most of our customers come through recommendations and word of mouth publicity. With an emphasis on design research and constant product development, we have been able to build a repertoire for delivering inspiration and a superior product experience to our clients. Happy with our leather garment deliverables, our clients pushed and we grabbed the opportunity to add new product categories. A couple of years ago we started producing bags & belts and most recently shoes. Every product we ship is treated, sometimes by hand and crafted to meet the specifications of our clients. Our products are created using state of the art production units set up by trained technicians. Our team of skilled craftsmen and professionals ensures that each product is delivered in a timely manner after undergoing rigorous quality assessment tests. With an annual production capacity of 250,000 garments, 300,000 bags, 600,000 belts and 720,000 shoes we run some of the best factories in our parts. The production is carried out on heavy-duty machines, in socially audited and compliant facilities. We have consistently worked towards creating an environment that is honest, transparent, socially responsible and committed towards delivering quality leather products. We have taken care to ensure the highest quality of leather products leave our factories.�

Working at Apollo International Ltd. The internship has taught me in every possible way to understand how an organisation works and how management plays a key role to build and run it successfully. It has provided me with the knowledge about different departments and the system.

Not only that, I have learned how to communicate and work with the workers as well as seniors in the organisation. As I were involved in the sampling for bags and wallets, I learned about the market and the buyers this company caters to. It helped me to improve my understanding in terms of theory and practicality.

For the project that I undertook under the guidance of my seniors, I was provided with complete support and motivation to do what would be best for the college and the organisation. I started off by doing my trend research on WGSN for the Spring/Summer 2021. These trends were then understood on the capabilities and expertise of the company so as to create a good balance between the both for a good collection Then I explored by making swatches for brands as assisted by my mentors and as studied in the brand research for a potential buyer UTERQUE. I explored various techniques like knotting, weaving and cutwork that directly related to the theme and inspiration of the project.

The continous guidance and support of my mentors and seniors at the organisation and university helped me successfuly envision a collection that would stand out and would further help the company get a new buyer.

Further, I would like to thank my college for providing me with the great opportunity of doing my graduation project in a reputed export house like Apollo International.

Concept In a time of perfectly curated social media feeds, endless barrages of new products, services, and people who can help you become the better you, it’s hard to take a step back and appreciate what we have. How can we be satisfied with what we’ve got if we’re always wanting what’s unattainable?

Transience has become a way to express appreciation for the beauty in the elegance of humble, rustic simplicity. It is a term to describe the way time affects deterioration. It could be the passing of seasons or aging pages of an antique book. It’s the beauty of the impermanence of aging. It is the concept of appreciating the simple, yet impermanent states of life.

“The Japanese view of life embraced a simple aesthetic that grew stronger as inessentials were eliminated and trimmed away.” Transience is the beauty of things imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete, the antithesis of our classical Western notion of beauty as something perfect, enduring, and monumental.

Mood Board The clean and uncluttered modesty of wabi-sabi concept inspires a natural and minimalist aesthetic where textures are appreciated for their rustic qualities. Taking insiration from artists like Giobagnara and Makerplace interior deisgners creating a minimal yet modern appeal to the current market. It is a constant push on technical limits in the quest for objects that are both beautiful and relevant, and in doing so relies on the skills of the company’s craftspeople.

Sleek cut silhouttes display an understated sophistication with streamlined layers and a focus on the modern tunic with its sharp finishes, layered over airy trousers. Artists like Audrey Bodisco focuses on creating layers through its watercolor painting depicting imperfections in the work while it looks balanced and creates a notion of motion.

These well crafted volumes come in natural materials such as linens and cottons with solid and durable qualities. A timeless neutral palette draws inspiration from cereal hues with a modern twist. Michikawa uses clay and glaze, infusing spirituality and palpable poetic energy into his work while capturing the ephemeral Japanese philosophy and aesthetics of Wabi Sabi, founded on the acceptance of the transitory nature of all things. This work has a reverential attitude to nature and time.

It can be difficult to find beauty in something mundane, let alone find a way to make something mundane modern and memorable. But through the work of Matthias Plessning, he has created a standpoint for all furniture designers. His unique designs and usage of steam-bending, Matthias Pliessnig has managed to craft himself a prime seat in the hierarchy of modern artists. His chairs and benches are indeed wavy and almost skeletal in appearance, with the bent wood twisting around itself like an ouroboros.

Just like fashion, furniture needs to be designed and modeled. Certain trends dictate what fabrics are used for upholstery. But there’s also an art to furniture design. Matthias Pliessnig knows this better than anyone.

Despite their complicated design, making them is apparently quite simple. As Pliessnig describes it: “I use steambending techniques to construct my work. The strips of wood are put inside a tube filled with hot steam. Ten minutes later, a strip is taken out and bent into the desired shape within 30 seconds. After eight hours, the wood is back to its original strength.�

The intertwined nature of the relationship in his designs describes, both from a design standpoint and the labor that went into creating it.

Learnings Graduation Project is one of the most important projects as it provides us with the necessary experience and knowledge to undertake a design project whilst working for a company.

Therefore, I chose to work at Apollo International as I was sure about the exposure that I would be entitled to would bring a great sense of responsibilty and skills. The internship has not only taught my professionally but as also made me grow personally.

I feel lucky to have given freedom of work and space to enhance my skills to achieve the desired results by college and the workplace. The company had advised to work for a specific brand which was their potential customer. At the same time, I created a design brief and the same was approved by my respective faculty.

The scope of work also evolved with time as I was given the liberty to work under mutiple teams and design as many

products as I wanted. I ended up creating a complete range of 7 emsembles under the guidance of my college mentor, following the brief set up by the company.

I am grateful to have worked under a company that has an underlying great vision. Working with people who had experience in dealing with such projects taught me to be more professional in approach. Being around people who had a great design and production knowledge was itself an enriching experience for me.

The project was a challenging yet rewarding experience as it helped me to add a completly new set of skills to my portfolio.

All the more, it wouldn’t have been possible without the constant push and support of my mentors and colleagues.

Overall it has been an enriching experience for me that I will carry forward in the future.
