DECORATIONS BY RICK P E RS O N A L I Z E D D E S I G N A N D D É C O R FOR ANY EVENT here are many aspects to bringing together a beautiful, memorable, and unique wedding day experience. My name is Rick Mayhew and I am the owner/operator of the company Decorations by Rick. I have been in business for over 25 years and my PASSION is to create that “Magical” feeling that couples deserve on their special day, whether for 50 or 500 guests.

Growing up I was always a creative person, so it was not surprising that I would end up in this profession. I do all types of events including fundraising galas, bar and bat mitzvahs, birthdays, anniversaries, retirements, debuts and weddings. I can be a one-stop-shop by offering linens, chair covers, backdrops, ceiling swagging, centrepieces, crystals, flowers, LED wall washing, Chiavari chairs, dishes, stemware, tents, dance floors and so much more.

Weddings are one of my favourite events to decorate. I have decorated every event venue in Winnipeg and surrounding areas, including barns and tents. I have a showroom on Grant Avenue which has hundreds of choices for linens, chair covers, centrepieces, lighting, and accessories to help create an amazing room that couples will want to share with their guests.

I enjoy the process of meeting with a potential couple in my showroom. I love the glow on their faces and the sparkle in their eyes as they share inspiration and images with me of what they see as their perfect wedding. This tells me what type of couple they are. As a decorator, you need to design around the couple’s vision and taste. I do not cookie-cut a wedding design. I look at the couple, share ideas, and then create an image of what their special, unique day will look like. When couples come to my showroom, many are overwhelmed with how to pull together colours, textures, and accessories to create a beautiful space. My job is to help them choose all that reflects who they are. Sharing ideas with the client by setting up a table with different linen styles and colours, centrepieces, and accessories, I always watch their expression when I choose a combination of items, ready to switch if need be. The expressions on their faces says it all and helps me make the right choices for them.

At this point, I am very excited to announce that my son Braidan will be joining me to help create your unbelievable event.

Refinery's wedding packages include linens, dinnerware, stemware and chairs and prices start at just $2,000! The customizable bundles can adapt to suit any vision and price-point from a bridal shower for 24 people all the way up to a backyard party for 200.

I always tell couples to make their wish list including everything they think they want to see when walking into their dream wedding room. For example, think of items such as full length tablecloths, chair covers, wooden crossback chairs or Chiavaris, the head table backdrop, ceiling swagging, photo op, centerpieces, candy bar, lighting, charger plates, candles etc. Then, make a few inquires about pricing. If tablecloths cost $15 to rent, multiply that by the 20 tables you will have. If a chair cover costs $4 to rent, multiply that by the 160 guests you will have. A 20-foot wide backdrop may cost $500 to $1000 depending on the number of fabric layers and if there are to be lights on it etc. Then, add together those estimates to get the total cost. From there, you can decide if you're happy with the budget, or if you need to cut back.

Red wine, grease, chocolate, makeup and other food stains can typically be removed by a dry cleaning expert. Getting your wedding gown professionally cleaned within a week of your wedding is best to avoid permanent stains. Chances are, you may have a few spills or dirt along the hemline. If you spill liquid on your dress, lightly blot the fabric to remove excess liquid, and then leave the rest to the drycleaner. They will know the best way to treat certain types of stains. Avoid the temptation to work at removing the stain yourself because it could end up making it harder to clean. Taking your wedding suits, dresses, and special linens for professional cleaning is the best way to make sure your special pieces are properly cleaned and preserved.

Sizing: Sizing can vary from summer to winter and morning to evening. We have the training to advise on your proper fit.

Material: Solid gold is durable and serviceable, alternative metals offer strength and a modern vibe.

Budget: Cost can vary greatly depending on which options are important to you.

icole and Jorden's love story began in 2020. Believe it or not, their mothers set them up!

They got engaged in 2021 in Kelowna, British Columbia. Jorden planned a surprise helicopter ride to the top of a mountain. When they arrived at the top, there was a cellist, rose petals, and a photographer waiting to greet them.

Jorden popped the question on the mountain overlooking Kelowna.

Nicole and Jorden chose white, gold, and greenery for their wedding theme and colour palette because they are colours you will never get tired of. They are timeless, classic, clean and elegant.

They loved every aspect of their wedding and say they wouldn’t have changed a single thing for their wedding ceremony and reception held at the rustic and elegant Hawthorn Estates!

As you can see by these breathtaking photographs taken by Casey Nolin Photography, not a detail was missed in the planning, styling or décor, and the happy couple and their guests had a beautiful and memorable day. manda and Matt's love story is marked by unexpected twists and perfect timing. They briefly dated in high school, but then fate brought them together again reigniting the spark of their eternity together. Matt proposed to Amanda four years later by recreating their first date, target shooting. When Amanda shot a bullseye, Matt knelt down on one knee and asked for her hand in marriage.

Knowing they both wanted a unique and laid-back wedding, Amanda and Matt decided on a Til Death Do Us Part theme that portrayed their creative personalities and individuality. They fashioned a romantic, moody vibe with black, green, and gold hues, and contrasting, vibrant jewel tones. Memorable features of their wedding included an abundance of lovingly handcrafted and personalized décor, a wood-fired pizza truck, and a ceremony including a custom script and handfasting tradition where the couple's hands are bound together with a ribbon or cord, symbolic of tying the knot, and their love and commitment to each other. Their wedding celebrated Amanda's charm and elegance and Matt's individuality and free spirit, a testament to their extraordinary and everlasting love.

icole had just gotten her driver’s license and pulled up to the gas station where Justin was working when she caught an unforgettable glimpse of his friendly smile. Smitten with an instant crush, she came up with every excuse under the sun to visit the gas station again. A mutual family friend took the liberty of secretly exchanging their phone numbers. After one text message, and hours chatting over coffee and cake at Baked Expectations, Nicole and Justin are still best friends 11 years later.

One of their favourite hobbies is hiking with their golden retriever, Luna. In 2020, Justin surprised Nicole during Thanksgiving weekend by booking a trip to Minaki Yurt Adventures in Ontario. Justin set-up the sweetest picnic on their hike with a hammock for two overlooking the lake where he popped the question. Needless to say, Nicole said “yes”!

The couple grew up spending summers under the sun in cottage country, so the family cottage at the lake was the perfect setting to host an intimate wedding. Whimsical floral embellishments with golden accents added romance to their blooming spring garden colour palette. From picnic baskets and vintage teacups, to lawn games and live music, their charming cottagecore wedding had just the cheerful and relaxed vibe Nicole and Justin were looking for.

For over 30 years, the show has been a one-stop-shop wedding planning destination for thousands of newly engaged Manitoba couples. Wedding planning can be an overwhelming experience but our show vendors will help simplify the process and make planning your wedding an exciting and memorable experience. Researching inspiration on social media and shopping for wedding products and services online has grown in popularity, but nothing will ever compare to the experience of speaking to local vendors and getting

professional planning advice face-t0face at the show. Many vendors offer special show promotions only available during the wedding show weekend.

THE MAKING OF WONDERFUL WEDDINGS MAGAZINE FASHION EDITORIAL

nce Upon A Time, there was a fashion photo shoot inspired by visions of a misty and ethereal castle ruins aesthetic... and then it rained! Thankfully, we had The Walker Studio Exchange booked as our indoor alternative for this year's fashion editorial.

Fashion photo shoots are typically associated with the final product glamorous, flawlessly edited, breathtaking images of beautiful people and haute couture. Magazine editorial production of this scale has a lot of moving parts, and the team at Wonderful Weddings magazine is incredibly grateful for being given the opportunity to work with the industry's top event professions since we began working on our very first issue in 2015.

Before the photos and video even take place, countless hours go into concept and storyboard development, selection and coordination of the models, garments and accessories, hair and makeup styles, props and florals, and selecting the ideal location for the photo shoot to take place.

Then, thousands of photos and hours of video footage are skillfully captured and culled down to the final images and footage for editing, and the result is what you see here. Sincere thanks to our 2024 production dream team for making this all look so easy!

Here are some ideas to achieve the perfect look for your besties: COLOUR SCHEME Opt for harmonizing shades that enhance their individual features while maintaining a cohesive look that will look fantastic as a group. Dress colours, flowers, etc. will be taken into consideration when choosing colours.
