Congratulations on your engagement and welcome to the 2018 issue of V.I.B. Weddings, a magazine for the Very Important Bride and Groom. For this issue of V.I.B. Weddings, we took a step back in time to the days of vintage red carpet glamour where more was more, and fashion was always the star of the show. Our wedding gown fashion photo shoot took centre stage at the historic Burton Cummings Theatre for the Performing Arts (formerly The Walker Theatre), lending us the perfect backdrop to feature gorgeous applause-worthy dresses captured on film by the incredibly talented photographer, Ryan Wibawa of Virulent Valmont. In this issue, we are also proud to showcase some of our talented wedding experts in their own starring roles, strutting their stuff for our new “Weddings That Rock” vendor styled shoots feature, highlighting the latest wedding trends for 2018. And, of course, V.I.B. Aldo Formal Wear (AFW) first opened its doors to the Winnipeg community in 1983. It has been a family run, one-stop-suit-shop, specializing in tuxedo rentals and custom suits for over 30 years. 365 DAYS OF WONDERFUL
housands of Manitoba couples have popped the question and the champagne to celebrate their new engagements, and now it’s time to plan! While planning a wedding may seem daunting at first, couples need not panic because the Wonderful Wedding Show is at their service, featuring approximately 300 of the city’s leading wedding experts and 130,000 square feet of everything couples could possibly need to plan their special day. Having the entire show under one roof and on one floor, makes it easy to start the planning process in a one-stop shopping experience. “Couples can take their time visiting as many vendors as they want throughout the day and easily compare different products and services the vendors have to offer,” says Sherri Rheubottom, Show Manager. “Even though many couples do a lot of their research online, nothing compares to actually meeting the business owners face-to-face and seeing which vendors best match their personality and style. Plus many vendors have samples and special show offers available only during the Wonderful Wedding Show weekend so it’s a great way to keep on budget or splurge on some special extras they might not have thought possible to include in their wedding.” The show also showcases endless inspiration for couples with various special feature areas such as the Inspiration Gallery and Brides & Grooms Lounges.

“One of our favourite décor experts, Rick Mayhew of Decorations by Rick, will be showcasing his imagination and talent in our Brides & Grooms Lounges, Inspiration Gallery, and also on our Fashion Show stage,” says Sherri. “Everything Rick creates is fabulous with incredible attention to detail so everyone is definitely in for a special treat.” The Inspiration Gallery will also feature several gorgeous tablescapes designed by some of the best wedding industry experts in the city. “Our vendors are so creative and talented so we love giving them the opportunity to have fun and just go for it with overthe-top, show-stopping table designs to help inspire couples for their own weddings,” says Sherri. Speaking of fun, the Wonderful Wedding Show isn’t only about the planning. The show will once again feature the popular Brides & Grooms Lounges where couples can relax and have fun with their wedding posse and enjoy some free wine and liquor sampling and special treats to celebrate the upcoming big day. Last but not least, is the show’s headliner; the daily fashion shows featuring the latest bridal fashion designs from the city’s leading retailers. This year’s whimsical “Enchanted Forest” theme will take couples through a magical story with of course, a happily ever after ending.

B
rett and Michael met through a mutual friend at a country music festival, where they quickly bonded over their similar taste in music. When the couple was on a remote canoe trip together, they decided to take a hike around the island they were staying on. During the hike, Michael got down on one knee and popped the question. The couple didn’t have any cell phone reception during their trip, so they had to wait days before sharing the news with family and friends. Michael is a farmer, which meant a post-harvest wedding made the most sense for the couple. “Our wedding was freezing cold and wonderfully warm all at the same time. Manitoba winters make for the most beautiful weddings,” the couple agreed. Brett and Michael got married in February at their church. The ceremony was held in the community hall in a town near Michael’s family farm. The simple and cozy winter wedding followed a dark berry colour scheme and was decorated with plenty of greenery, candles and lights. The unforgettable combination of the light snowfall, stunning décor and smiling faces, made the wedding picture-perfect.

ne night, while decorating the Christmas tree, Olivia turned to grab an ornament from her boyfriend, Craig. To her surprise, Craig was on one knee, proposing. Through her tears, Olivia managed a heartfelt “yes” and “it’s about time!” The couple met in college and dated for six years before tying the knot in May 2017. Olivia and Craig always wanted a laid-back, country style wedding, and finding the perfect venue was very important to them both. Anderson’s Hitch ’n Post Ranch stood out among many contenders. The couple worked together to add country flare to the wedding. Craig made a birch arbour and wooden centrepieces. Olivia collected mismatched china dishes for the place settings and decorated with birdcages, mason jars and chalkboard signs. The ceremony and reception were decorated with blush pink, ivory and lavender flowers. M
egan and Michael first met while playing soccer on the same team. The two barely spoke for the first year after meeting. It wasn’t until a mutual friend’s wedding social that they struck up a conversation and discovered they had a lot in common. Knowing Megan was a nature lover, Michael decided to propose on an island in Whiteshell Provincial Park, after dating for two years. The modest, yet elegant wedding was held at a family farm on a chilly day in June. Despite a temperature of 4°C, the big day was beautiful. The wedding décor featured lots of purple, Megan’s favourite colour, and garden flowers. Neither Michael nor Megan wanted an elaborate wedding. They knew that if the day was filled with loved ones having fun, the wedding would be spectacular. The special day was an intimate celebration among family and friends and turned out to be everything the couple hoped for. Michael recalls, “the ceremony ended with a full rainbow across the sky in front of a prairie field. We couldn’t have asked for anything better.” Photos: Rygiel Photography & Video
