Showtime Productions Inc. was founded in 1982 to promote and produce quality events, concerts, musicals and consumer shows in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Current productions include the Wonderful Wedding Show, Winnipeg Pet Show, Winnipeg Classic RockFest, Goldeyes Bark in the Park and various Broadway musicals.

This issue of V.I.B. Weddings is a celebration of couples making their wedding their own, with a nod to royal couple Prince Harry and Meghan Markle who broke many royal traditions to include personalized elements in their own wedding. Our “Real Weddings” couples on p. 47-53 will also inspire you to stay true to your own style to make your wedding really reflect who you are. Each of these real weddings is very different but they all show that even the smallest personal touches, like including your pup in your special day, can go a long way to make your wedding unique. For even more inspiration, “Get the Look” on p. 12-14 highlights two very different styled shoots featuring “Midnight Sky” for a magical, moody feel, and “Royal Elegance” for an elegant, sophisticated style. With so many couples in love with the outdoor garden wedding idea, but fearing the weather, this is the perfect compromise to satisfy all nature lovers! COLOUR IS THE NEW GREENERY Although abundant greenery will always be a timeless floral element, you can expect to see a lot more colour happening in 2019. Brides are being a little more adventurous and adding bright and vivid pops of colour in their flowers and decor elements. Think orange-red tones, moody blues, mango yellows, coral pinks and more!

MINIMALIST ELEGANCE We all remember the naked cake craze. Now, style experts are saying one of the trends for 2019 is moving over to the “naked dress”. Ever since Meghan Markle stepped out in that slick, silk dress that allowed us to focus on her beauty instead of the dress, brides are definitely following suit. WEDDING BRANDING More and more couples are thinking of their wedding as a brand of who they are, and every good brand requires a good logo with a cohesive look and feel throughout. Couples are incorporating their logo and colours on more than just invitations, menus, and welcome signs in 2019. Here is some of the advice we, at Melanie Parent Events, want to share with every couple struggling with design and trends while still trying to stay true to their own style (and let’s be honest, trying to do all of this within a budget!).

WORK WITH THE VENUE Choosing your date and venue are the first big decisions you’re going to make when planning your wedding. Make sure the room and the surrounding grounds you choose compliment the overall vision. Don’t choose a space that needs a complete overhaul and will cost a fortune to transform from warehouse-industrial to garden chic. The goal is to find a space that has the overall aesthetic and feel so that you can focus on the details and ways to make it “you”.

COMPLIMENT YOUR PERSONAL STYLE When you start searching for your dream venue and envision your wedding, try to remember who you are in everyday life. What are your likes and dislikes? Do you like vintage or modern? Industrial or rustic? Use your current living space, wardrobe, and interests as inspiration for your wedding day style. You want your big day to reflect who you are as individuals and as a couple. Guests who attend your event should see décor and touches that are “so you”.

STAY OFF PINTEREST Now that you’ve narrowed down a wedding style, stick to it! You’re going to cause yourself stress and confusion by veering off the chosen look and feel. We see it all the time! The couple has decided they love rustic, but they come across a modern minimalist Pinterest board and start questioning every decision they’ve made. Stick to what you fell in love with originally and if you’re still drawn to the other style, look to incorporate small touches without doing a complete overhaul.

Aldo Formal Wear (AFW) first opened its doors to the Winnipeg community in 1983. It has been a family run, one-stop-suit-shop, specializing in tuxedo rentals and custom suits for over 30 years. The knowledgeable staff’s ability to connect with a diverse range of customers has made them indispensable in the local wedding market. AFW’s focus has always been on providing classic looks and allowing individual’s styles to come through in the finishing touches. From Chuck Taylor’s with a custom suit, to giant paisley pocket squares and coordinating socks, they encourage their clients to just be themselves and AFW will take care of the rest. A great deal of care is taken to tailor and accommodate each tuxedo rental so that the wearer feels like the suit was made for him. From shirts to shoes, an entire look is provided for that customer’s special occasion. As well, rentals and custom options are available for boys as young as four years old. Then, there are the custom suits. Custom everything, actually. “The Custom M2M” line, including men’s shirts, suits, tuxedos, jackets and pants was conceived to accommodate the vast range of requests from clients over the years. “The Custom M2M” line includes custom dresses, pantsuits and jackets. “It’s awesome to be able to appeal to both sides,” says co-owner Ken Lozano, who was raised in the shop. If you come to AFW, be prepared to answer a few questions about your own closet at home. It’s important for them to know what lifestyle they are catering an outfit to, and the personality they are designing for. Fashion is a very personal thing so your tailor needs to get to know a bit more about you than just your measurements. AFW offers tuxedo and suit rentals at competitive rates and custom tuxedos, suits, shirts, pants, jackets, pantsuits and dresses that are all created step-by-step with the client. From buttons and fabric, to monograms and pocket squares, AFW will create the ultimate custom look for any client. When it comes to weddings, it’s our goal to help the husbandto-be look and feel like the most important man in the world. t has been a banner year for weddings, with two royal weddings creating lots of buzz and inspiration for newly engaged couples everywhere! The Wonderful Wedding Show will continue to inspire couples with hundreds of the city’s leading wedding experts and 130,000 square feet of everything couples could imagine to plan their special day. “Winnipeg has incredibly talented wedding industry vendors and we love having them all together showing off what they do best and helping couples get their planning started,” says Sherri Rheubottom, Show Manager. New special show features such as the Couture Cake Gallery will give couples even more inspiration as the city’s top cake designers create beautiful couture cakes inspired by a gorgeous Sottero and Midgley wedding gown. “We’re excited to introduce the new Couture Cake Gallery this year to bring

back the cake and show couples how a custom wedding cake can really make their wedding even more special and unique,” says Sherri. Because wedding planning can be overwhelming, another new feature, “Wedding Planning 101 Workshops” by Alexandra Lillian Events will teach couples some wedding planning basics so they can spend their day creating memories and not stressing over details. In addition to lots of information and advice, the show is also a chance for couples and their wedding parties to have fun and celebrate the big upcoming day. Everyone can take a break in the Brides & Grooms Lounges where they will find music, wine sampling, and beautiful tablescape designs by Decorations by Rick. One of the most anticipated features of the show is the daily fashion show. This year’s “Royal Rhapsody” theme will showcase wedding fashions fit for a King and Queen.

ll eyes will be on you. It sure sounds scary to be the centre of attention, but it doesn’t have to be if you have everything planned out. Our brides are always asking about timelines so here’s a checklist to ensure you will be camera ready for your big day.

M ONTHS

Book Artists: Reputable hair and makeup artists book up fast. If you have someone in mind, make sure to contact them sooner rather than later. A professional company should be able to show you their portfolio of work through social media or a website. Skin Care: Drink plenty of water and always take your makeup off at the end of the day. Cleansing, toning, and moisturizing every morning and night can really improve your skin. If you have any troubling skin problems, such as acne, get in touch with a dermatologist to consider possible treatment options. Hair: Try that new hair colour or cut, or start growing your hair if you need longer locks for the wedding hairstyle you envision.

Brows: I know 6 months seems like a long time before your wedding to get a brow wax, but it’s more about finding the right brow artist for you and getting your brows perfect in the months leading up to your big day. Facials: Having a facial once every 4 weeks, coupled with your skincare routine at home, will help ensure you have the best skin possible on your wedding day. Facials are super relaxing and give your skin a bright glow afterwards.

WEEK

Skin: Have your last facial at least one week before your wedding day. Make sure it’s the same facial you’ve had before to avoid any skin reactions.

Hair & Makeup Trials: Book your hair and makeup trials on the day of your stagette, bridal shower, or other special occasion.

Eyes: If you’ve decided to have lash extensions, it’s time to have them applied by the same beauty technician who applied them correctly for you initially (this can be done a few days to one week before your wedding day).

Hair: Final trim and colour.

Big Day

Nails: Gel or shellac nails are a great way to ensure your nail polish won’t chip. Body: Relax with a massage. Body: Shower, shave, and moisturize. Hair: Wash and condition (if not on the morning your wedding day). Face: Tone and moisturize.

Hair: Make sure your hair is clean and dry. Body: Moisturize your body. Face: Use toner, moisturizer, and a facial oil on your face for a glowing complexion. Teeth: Brush your teeth before you get your makeup done. 46

“ It looked like a dream, all our family and friends in one place — a moment I’ll never forget.”

rista and Bret both love nature and wanted a venue that was full of greenery for their summer wedding. They were lucky enough to have Bret’s aunt and uncle agree to host their big day on their beautiful property which included horses and a picturesque tree line framing the tent. Most of all, they wanted their love for each other and their gratitude to their guests to shine through. They added personal touches by having their pup’s face on Koozies as wedding favours, along with Bret’s mom’s famous habanero jelly. They also had custom games for their guests to play over cocktail hour, a scotch and cigar bar, and live music. To achieve a dreamy vibe, the couple had a soft blush and gold palette, loads of greenery, whimsical dream catchers, their favourite quotes custom-made on large slabs of wood, and florals dripping off the tent. Their guests told them the wedding was “so them” and “so full of love” which truly meant the world to Krista and Bret, as they never wanted to get so lost in the process that the day would get away from what it is truly meant to be — committing to the love of your life in front of all the people you hold dear.

n true Winnipeg fashion, Carla and Nick met through friends at a Halloween wedding social. They talked for what felt like most of the night and the rest is history. One Tuesday evening in November, Carla came home from work to find the living room clean and organized and didn’t think anything of it — she was excited to see the pillows on the couch were finally where they belonged! After dinner, Nick had said he was going to teach their dog, Penny, a new trick. He proceeded to put a dog treat in Carla’s hand and took Penny upstairs with him. He told Carla to call Penny and she came down with a tag on her collar that said, “Marry me?” and when Carla looked up, there was Nick with the ring. Carla knew right from the beginning she wanted elegant and timeless colours for their wedding party’s attire. Navy was an easy choice for the bridesmaid dresses which were complemented by sophisticated dark grey suits from Aldo Formal Wear. Carla looked stunning in a halter-style wedding gown from Stella’s Bridal & Evening Collections, paired with her Kate Spade Keds. indsey and Andrew had been friends since the eleventh grade, never leaving the friend zone for almost fifteen years until one day they realized what was in front of their faces all along. They dated for two and a half years—bonding over their dog, Carl Winslow, spending time together at the lake, and building a relationship with a solid foundation of friendship. The couple got engaged on a trip to Vancouver with Lindsey’s sister and her boyfriend in August 2017 when Andrew popped the question in the middle of a group photo opportunity, though Andrew had a hard time actually getting the words out. They opted for dark, classic, seasonally appropriate colours for their winter wedding. Andrew looked dashing in a rich navy wool/cashmere customdesigned tuxedo by Eph Apparel. Lindsey and her bridesmaids kept warm with fur shawls which added a touch of elegance. To complete their elegant chic style, the couple used touches of gold and merlot accents in décor and accessories.
