EVENTS UPCOMING EVENTS: NAMA will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month through 15 Oct. with an inspiring guest speaker. Football season starts 4 Sept. vs. Marshall in Annapolis. Let’s support Brigade Unity Day, 4 Oct. Save-theDate for the 2022 Alumni Leadership Forum on Diversity and Inclusion April 28 - May 1, 2022 on the yard! The Forum theme is “Leading in a Diverse and Inclusive Organization”. It will be an excellent opportunity for alumni to engage. Ticket sales and donation links are on www. usnama.com! Please support this important event. PAST EVENTS: We are happy to announce that NAMA sponsored 22 students this summer for STEM programs at USNA! On I-Day, we had great NAMA member support welcoming the Class of 2025 and their families as well as hosting the Parents Diversity Event with the diversity and inclusion office. Thank you to those that volunteered and helped make these events successful!

NAMA is focused on developing the next generation of leaders and “giving back”. We’ve donated $30,000.00 to support students and the USNA mission. Alumni can donate directly to NAMA at www.usnama.com. To expand donation options for alumni who intend to contribute at the President’s Circle level, $1,000 for graduates from the last 15 years and $2,500 and above for all other alumni, NAMA partnered with the Alumni Association to establish the Naval Academy Minority Affairs Fund (NAMAF). Donations to NAMAF, as well as funds direct to NAMA, support STEM and NASS scholarships, Midshipmen and Alumni activities, Gospel Choir travel, Centers of Influence visits for educators, physical mission and social media and marketing efforts. Follow these steps, if you plan to contribute at the President’s Circle level, to receive recognition: 1. Visit usna.com/give or follow direction on the NAMA website 2. On June 22, 2021, the Michaud Expeditionary Medical Facility (EMF) at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, held a memorial service for the late U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Seth R. Michaud (USNA ’98). Michaud died during training for combat operations in the vicinity of Camp Lemonnier, near the Godoria Range in northern Djibouti on June 22, 2003. He was assigned to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 461, Marine Aircraft Group 26, 2nd Marine Air Wing, Marine Corps Air Station New River, Jacksonville, North Carolina. The EMF is named in honor Capt. Michaud for one of the first mass casualty events that occurred at Camp Lemonnier where his was the only death and eight other Marines survived the accident. Today the EMF provides critical and routine care for all service members in Djibouti and throughout the region.

Our USNA Women’s Shared Interest Group (WSIG) was recently given the opportunity to contribute to the new Alumni Center being built. Following a presentation showcasing the features of the Center by Shipmate Editor-in-Chief, Craig Washington ‘89, members of the WSIG overwhelmingly positively responded to take advantage of the ‘naming opportunity’ for the electronic board in the lobby of the new Center featuring “Alumni in the News.” We will have up to five years to raise the funds for this chance to be a part of the Center. Already, new and innovative ideas have been pouring in towards this endeavor. Individual classes are also fundraising to name a room, a garden, or other parts of the Center, and assist in providing needed funds, as the Center is being built entirely from donations. If you have any ideas, have a skill, product, or service you would be willing to offer to help with fundraising, or would like to help organize the WSIG fundraising program, please email We will be putting a committee together shortly to kick off this fundraising program. Remember, WSIG members are men, women, and friends of USNA that care about addressing issues of concern to women midshipmen at the Academy, as well as women who have attended USNA. Please join us!
