Dear Readers, Welcome to November and all that it brings – dark evenings, Bonfire Night and a sense of panic as Christmas approaches at speed! Quizzes and Bazaars are being advertised in abundance so it is clear that winter is settling in. We hope that our new Reverend Coralie is also feeling settled in to the Parish and has enjoyed her initial first few weeks here. The Installation Ceremony in October was a wonderful and happy occasion as this edition’s front cover shows. Many thanks go to Ian Townsend and Mark Vale for their help with the cover this month. Remember, remember the ……November is the month when the countryside goes to sleep, the evenings draw in and normally it becomes progressively colder. But there are only 51 days before the days grow longer and Christmas is close. Let us relive some happy times we had in October. The harvest was gathered in and celebrated with suppers or finger buffets by the three churches but the happiest and most important event was the arrival of Coralie, albeit only from Olney, for her installation and licensing as our new Priest-in-Charge. The service was led by the Bishop of Buckingham and the Archdeacon on 21st October. We welcome Coralie and her family with open hearts and minds and hope that she will make a trouble free transfer from Wolverton to the Rectory, set in the country parish of SCAN. We all owe an enormous debt of gratitude to those who worked so tirelessly and successfully during the long interregnum (or should it be regina?). Pam and John more than adequately filled the gap left by Mandy. They introduced innovative ideas and did so much undercover and undisclosed Christian work in and outwith the parish. We were also blessed to have, allegedly retired, priests Bob Penman and John Saunders who brought a wide and worldly perspective to their services and sermons. The prayer at the end of Coralie’s installation could well apply to us all. Friends of St Firmins
As the nights draw in, those of you who live in the village should be receiving your copy of the Friends cryptic quiz. We hope to deliver one to every house but I must stress that no-one has any obligation to take part. If you do want to have a go the entry fee is £2 and your answers should be returned to me with the money, by November 17 th. The fun of course is in doing it, so do have a go and enjoy the challenge whilst raising money for the much needed restoration fund. A recent inspection of St Firmins by the churchwardens and a buildings representative from the Deanery, has clarified a few difficult issues and helped us to set priorities for the future. However, I think perhaps you will not be surprised to hear that on entry to our church the immediate reaction of the Deanery visitor was “what a beautiful building!” And of course we all know that and take great pride in it! The visit was helpful in setting a clear agenda for projects which are viable and affordable. For example: it is now clear that the old boiler house will have to be demolished, but the Deanery are very much in favour of a toilet being provided somewhere at the back of the church. It also seems that we shall, in due course, finally be able to get the Chancel painted. This will become a priority for The Friends once the details are settled and should allow you all to see something tangible for your support and generosity. English Heritage and the Church of England are rightly very protective of their Grade 1 listed buildings. Churches in this category must be inspected every five years and an architect’s report written and paid for. St Firmins is due one very soon, which should help us to clarify matters and to obtain the long awaited Faculty needed for exterior stonework repairs. These matters are taken very seriously and I’m told that the application will be required to specify the type of stone to be used and possibly even the quarry from which it originates. I suppose this is why everything takes so long. These two projects: the South Porches and the Chancel (along with demolition of the boiler house and consequential repairs to the wall) are now set to be our priority for the current round of expenditure. Other restoration work will be determined by the architect’s recommendations and available funds. Church members, as well as The Friends committee, are still keen to install a small kitchen so that the building can be used more widely for secular events but this will be done through separate, specific fund-raising and grant applications. Rotary Club of Newport Pagnell On Saturday 14th October our Club planted 5,000 purple crocus bulbs at the junction of Green Park Drive and Willen Road, Newport Pagnell. They complement the crocuses planted in earlier years in other parts of the town. These crocuses are not only an attractive sight each spring, but also raise awareness of Rotary's ongoing commitment to eradicating polio. At the start of Rotary's campaign 30 years ago there were 400,000 new cases of polio every year. By 2016 there were only 37 new cases. Rotary will continue its work, and support for mass immunisation, until polio is finally defeated. Our Club Member Chris Carvell and fellow cyclist Shaun Grieg completed their 174 mile sponsored ride along Hadrian’s Cycleway (Sustrans/National Cycle Route 72). They were supported by back-up crew Rotarians David and Sandy Aked-Walker. Chris and Shaun raised funds to buy a Rotary Shelter Box that provides emergency accommodation and basic survival needs for victims of disasters. It is not too late to make a contribution! The Woburn Sands and District Rotary Satellite Club now operates autonomously. It’s 13 members were inducted as full members of Rotary International at our weekly meeting in the Swan Revived Hotel on 18th October. Two new members also joined the Rotary Club of Newport Pagnell during October. If you are interested in knowing what Rotary is and what Rotary does, both locally and globally, please contact us to attend our Open Evening to be held at The Swan Revived Hotel on the evening of Wednesday 8th November. We continue to have interesting speakers at our weekly meeting. Recent and upcoming topics include Helicopter Air-Sea Rescue, The Cowper-Newton Museum in Olney, and the Milton Keynes Food Bank. Our Club has organised a Barn Dance, open to all, to be held at Lavendon Village Hall from 7pm on Saturday 11th November. This is by popular request after last year’s successful event. And yet another month has flown by and by the time you read this, the clocks have been put back, Halloween has been and gone and no doubt some Guy Fawkes displays have flash, banged and wallop their way into the history books. So we will have begun the dank dark month of November in its build up to Christmas. I personally always find November to be a dismal month with its short days and dark evenings, I can see why some people suffer with SAD disorder. As you can gather I am not a fan of November, however I am now moving onto more happy events, we held the Harvest Supper in the Village Hall on 16th October. 40 people were treated to a lovely meal, the main dish of lamb shank was lovingly prepared by Bob and Janet and followed by some gorgeous fruit crumble prepared by various members of the committee. Although there was a slight mishap with some of the custard, we still had enough custard, ice cream and cream to go round. After the diner we held an auction of the produce brilliantly conducted by Keith the Gavel Watson. We all had a great time and raised over ÂŁ600 for the Village Hall and Playground funds, however I must admit there is some old pound coins in this amount, but still never mind we are not too proud not to accept, especially as the banks will still accept them. A big thanks goes to the committee for working so hard to prepare for the event and also to Bob and Janet for cooking the mains. One of our eldest and longest serving residents Monica Robinson has left the village and moved on to Milton Keynes to nearer her son Anthony. Monica had lived in the village for nearly all her life so definitely held the tittle of being the longest resident, so it must have been with a definite heavy heart when she moved out, but it would have been for the best, so we all wish her well for the future. Also by the time you read this we will have had the combined Autumn garden tidy up and the Halloween pumpkin trail and the event was: A. Brilliant! the garden looks a treat, the pumpkin trail was a great deal of fun and the soup was out of this world. B. The weather ruined the whole event and was a complete washout.

The Quiz evening held on Saturday 7th October in Chicheley village hall was a great success raising the sum of £642.50 for St. Lawrence church funds. This was very much down to Alan and Judy Plater, who along with their friends Steve and Jean, organised and ran the event and donated the food (sausage and mash) and drink. The event was well supported from people of the neighbouring villages and the winning team, in quite a close contest, was awarded a perpetual cup. Through this note Alan and Judy wish to thank all who contributed to the evening, especially David Blamires, the makers of the puddings and those who entered. I’m sure I speak for those who were there and Chicheley DCC in saying that it was Alan and Judy who deserved our thanks for another entertaining evening. The following evening it was Harvest Festival time in the church. It had been decorated with flowers and fruit, garden and farm produce was tastefully arranged around the church. To our pleasant surprise the bells were being rang (thank you Mark and your team) for the first time in many years. The bells even attracted the attention of people who were staying at Chicheley hall as not only did six of them come to find out what was happening but also stayed for the service. Talking to them afterwards one man said he had only ever attended one other service in his life, in Cologne cathedral. I think the joyous occasion, the hearty singing led by the SCAN choir and Stevens Chilvers playing, plus an interesting sermon by Canon John Saunders definitely made an impression they will remember. The following evening the produce was auctioned for sale by John Duncombe and Robert Ruck Keene ably assisted by William Boulton. This raised an additional £400 for church funds. A few days later we celebrated a harvest supper, it was a busy few evenings. I have been asked to include details of an EXHIBITION OF HOBBIES AND COLLECTIONS that will be held in Chicheley village hall on Saturday 18th November. This will be from 10.00am until 4.00pm with a £2 entry fee with Deadline for December – 18th November
under 16’s free. The proceeds will be for charity. Possible exhibits to include model railways, vintage farm items, with other exhibits to be confirmed. Light refreshments will be available during the day. For any enquiries please contact Mike Kettell on 01234 391080. Sunday November 12th will see the annual laying of a wreath at the village war memorial followed by a church service. The timing is 10.45am at the memorial. It is the occasion when we particularly remember the eight men associated with Chicheley who gave their lives in the service of their country during the First World War. We do not forget but include all the many who have perished in war since then. To most of us today who have no experience of service in our armed forces and of fighting for our country this is an opportunity to reflect for a few moments on what our predecessors did. I know I have mentioned this regularly in my monthly SCAN notes but I believe it is important we do remember. It was confirmed recently when Felicity and I were invited to a small village in Leicestershire on October 10th to attend a Remembrance service for her great uncle who had been killed in France exactly 100 years previously, the only casualty from that village during the war. The church was full but Felicity was the only blood relative and yet all these people had taken the time to prepare and attend in his memory. Perhaps our Chicheley residents will do the same this year for their former villagers? Chichchat will continue to be held in the village hall on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays from 10.30 am until noon. There will be a coffee and cake morning in the village hall on Saturday 25th November for church funds. There will be a social evening for villagers in the village hall on Saturday 9th December. Bring along some food, we hope to have the handbells for you to try again.

ORTH CRAWLEY NEWS AND COMMENT
Hurricane Ophelia has come and gone and luckily for us only we were only on the fringes of it. A few gusts of wind were all we felt, and the sky was definitely a peculiar colour for a while, but that was it. What a strange coincidence that 30 years ago to the day the south of the country in particular was hit by a hurricane which uprooted trees in parks and woods, blew down power lines and propelled large amounts of debris through the air at high speed. We were actually living on the southeast coast at that time and were advised to remain at home, and you only needed to peer outside to see why. Bits of roofs, sheds, garden fences, greenhouses were being ripped up and flung around. For two days we couldn’t get out of the town as all routes were blocked by trees and fallen power lines. My brother was on a help line for the gas board that day and was called by someone who said, “I’m in a phone box next to a tree that has been uprooted and ruptured a gas main, and there are sparks flying around from a fallen power line, what should I do?” “Run”, was the reply. There are going to be one or more people who are going to say what has that got to do with North Crawley? Well it reminded me that the day after the storm, we picked up an acorn from a fallen tree and one year later, almost to the day, moved to North Crawley with a pot with a very small sapling in it. After a short while here we met up with a local farmer at a social gathering, and to cut to the chase he planted our small oak in a field on the outskirts of North Crawley, which is now an impressive size, can be seen from the North Crawley road, and a reminder of that day in 1987. We are extremely lucky in this village to have two pubs to frequent, as many villages have none. It is often said that when a village starts to lose amenities, such as pubs, that the community spirit appears to go downhill and you end up with a number of houses in the middle of nowhere lacking in neighbourly communication. Personally, I see it as part of village life to meet new people, engage in conversation and exchange views about the planet and the universe, or possibly about local and national sports clubs, or whatever floats your boat, and pubs are good places to do this. The reason for mentioning this is that a number of people have made comments about the Chequers which I find quite unfair. For example, moaning about the small seats attached to the wall of the pub each side of the door. Well those have been there for many years and were there when the current tenants moved in, so are part of the building fabric which it is assumed only the owners of the building can change, but not the tenants. Other comments have been made about late night drinking, but this as far as I can tell is not often, and is within the hours allowable on the licence. My main point and concern, is that we don’t lose any of our current amenities, as they are meeting places that help bind together the fabric of our community. News from the ‘Neighbourhood Plan’ is that the next priority is to engage an experienced consultant to help build the actual plan document. There is a lot of

information and evidence that still needs to be accumulated, and even the process to identify this information requires help from someone who has been through the process before. A number of candidates have been identified and interviews will be organized in November and hopefully a consultant will be on board before Christmas. As mentioned previously the results from the information collected from the questionnaires will be presented back to the village, but this looks as though it may now be in the new year.

NORTH CRAWLEY PARISH COUNCIL As it is my turn to report for the Parish Council this month, I thought I would start by way of introduction – my name is Lucy MacLennan and I joined the Parish Council in July this year. Although I am relatively new to the village as a resident, my family have been involved in the area for many years (my Grandparents Connie and Alastair used to live in Chequers Lane, my father used to be the local GP and my brother and his family are in the village too) and I am delighted to live here and have met so many great people. Full minutes from the meeting held on Tuesday 3rd October can be found on the PC website: www.northcrawley-pc.gov.uk (and for those without internet access, a copy is also held in the blue folder in the village hall), so I thought I would try a slightly different approach to our report this month – all feedback is welcomed! Sadly Cllr John Hobbs has tended his resignation from the Council this month – we would like to thank him for all his hard work over the years. His knowledge of the village has been invaluable to the Council and he will be missed. His resignation offers someone else the opportunity of joining our team, so if you are interested please let us know. In terms of planning this month there has been some activity, with the application of developments to the rear of the Chequers pub as well as the Cranfield development at Wharley End both declined. In addition progress is being made in addressing the concerns raised about the lighting at Ringcroft Farm and developments are expected soon. New applications have been received for the conversion of a tractor shed at Moat Farm into a residential dwelling (no concerns raised) and also the change of use from agricultural land to a domestic garden at 12 Brook End (the drainage from this land runs off onto the road and can become icy in winter so this is going to be checked to ensure that there are no associated issues). Cllr Magee updated the meeting on progress on the Neighbourhood Plan which is continuing apace. The review of all the comments submitted on the surveys is causing a slight delay in reporting but the team are working really hard to get through it all, but there is some really valuable information contained which will not only help the Plan develop but will also help us to improve the work of the Parish Council too. For information Ward Cllr Geary also reported that the Plans developed by Sherington and Castlethorpe both passed their referendums with 97% and 94% respectively. There has been some discussion about the reinstatement of white lines on the road to Chicheley but unfortunately there is no option to do this (yet!) – when Deadline for December – 18th November
the work was carried out kerbstones were put in which restricts the road width and “officially” it is not wide enough to put white lines in. Rest assured that this is still on the agenda and we will seek to find a solution, although it may take a little longer to action. Finally there were a number of comments from the public this month which the Council will review and seek to action. We welcome all feedback, in the first instance via Pat, our Parish Clerk so please feel free to message or attend our monthly public meetings. The next meeting will take place in the Village Hall on Tuesday 7th November 2017 at 7.30pm.

NEWS FROM NORTH CRAWLEY CE SCHOOL North Crawley CE School & Stoke Goldington CE First School ‘Together in Learning - Sharing Excellence and Expertise’
It is hard to believe that our foundation children have already completed their first half term at school. It has been lovely to see how well everyone has settled and a walk around the classroom shows how much they have already achieved. We are extremely proud of them all. Our most recent topic ‘Amazing Autumn ’has given us lots of time to explore the local area. It has been lovely to see the children enjoying the sights and sounds of this beautiful season. Our trips out have led to lots of opportunities in all areas of the early years curriculum including our very own ‘Percy Park Keeper workshop in the class room. We have also taken advantage of the lovely weather to go for lots of shape walks. The children have been fantastic ‘shape detectives’ spotting 2D and 3D shapes in the environment. Outdoors, the foundation children have enjoyed their ‘Welly Wednesday’ sessions. All the fruit and vegetables have been harvested, winter pansies put in and lots of bulbs planted in preparation for spring. With the help of Mrs Thomas and Mrs Rowe, the children have been making a cosy 5 star bug hotel for our special wildlife area. Once the structure was made the children added straw, twigs, cones and moss to make the home comfy and inviting! We are now waiting to see who will be our first guests! Thank you to all parents who helped with the supply of materials. A special thank you to Emma Thomas for organising this lovely activity for the children and to ‘assistant gardener’ Paula Rowe.
Our Harvest Festival was recently held at St Firmin’s Church. The theme this year was ‘Our Wonderful World’. Through songs, pictures and words the children said, “Thank you” for our world. As part of their topic on ‘Super Heroes’ our year 2 children told the story of ‘Supertato’ who saved the Deadline for December – 18th November
vegetables from the ‘Evil Pea’. The children remembered the farmers who are the real heroes at harvest time. The children have been learning about Diwali and listening to personal accounts of how families celebrate. The children have made special Diwali sweets and had fun dressing up and dancing; they have really experienced the joy and fun of this festival, underpinning our on-going focus on British values. It was a pleasure to welcome so many visiting children and their families to our recent open morning; it was lovely to meet everyone and look forward to getting to know them even better. Cabaret Evening 30th September 2017 Due to Gary Priestley’s indisposition, Danny Fisher – a friend and associate of equal standing to Gary – kindly agreed to entertain us at the last minute and everyone soon began to dance the night away to Danny’s singing of various popular numbers. NORTH CRAWLEY WI It is nice to talk to SCAN readers again as last month our meeting was after the deadline date. We are still going as a WI and our last meeting was our Harvest Supper which was organised by the Committee and a marvelous job they did, the food was good, the layout and flowers lovely and the wine went down a treat. Our next October meeting is a Mr Penney, talking to us on “Nursery Rhymes” and then we have our Annual Meeting and will find out if we have a new President, Secretary, Treasurer and Committee and we hope that we will go on having a North Crawley WI. I am writing this while holding on to the phone, up to now 27 minutes to the Council to change my Council Tax from Bill’s bungalow at no. 19 Kilpin Green to no. 20 (which is not next door) as I am moving but still (hurray) in North Crawley. The next call was the Electricity Co. This was 38 minutes. The music they play is not very catchy and it is very tedious. If I don’t write Scan next month I might have died from boredom. November 15th sees the speaker Chris Ward on “Undiscovered Norfolk”, 7.30pm as usual. Pam PS. We had a wonderful trip to Hotter Shoes in Milton Keynes. They gave as some excellent food, an interesting talk on the Company and 18 of us all bought some very nice shoes and boots for the winter. Matters Arising from last meeting Consultations – Fell 2 trees There was an explanation of why the trees needed to be felled but this had not been put on the planning portal. A comment was filed with a request that the application be heard by Development Control committee unless a satisfactory site visit could be arranged. UPDATE: At time of going to print this site visit has now take place and objections dropped. Lathbury Consultation The area had shrunk but key worry is traffic, specifically trucks going in and out of the site. Concerns regarding people going near the river during shoot was raised with the planning consultants. MKC paper on S106/TIL/CIL-consultation A response has been sent on behalf of SPC Plan MK Final call for comments from PC will go to the inspector and not MKC.

The Parish Council is seeking an enthusiastic and organised individual to work up at the Pavilion in Sherington. The position available is a part time job as a combined Caretaker and Cleaner. To present the Sports Ground and Pavilion of Sherington to all users and members of the public in its best possible light with regards to cleanliness, tidiness, good repair and readiness to be an excellent facility for those that make use of it.
Sherington Pavilion Duties include: Discussing with the Parish Council and Clerk the work required each week and being in good contact with the Parish Council so all bookings/maintenance can be dealt with seamlessly. Unlocking and relocking the building before and after bookings. Ensuring the building is ready for each booking. Carrying out the cleaning, including running the showers and taps through once a week. Replacing Janitorial items (soap, paper towels, toilet rolls etc.…) as and when necessary. Advising the Parish Council and Clerk of damage, vandalism, repairs etc. immediately on discovery. Advising the Clerk when Janitorial are running low so they can be replaced. Setting up / clearing away the function room including tables for / after bookings when requested. Window cleaning. Intensive cleaning – cooker, fridges, kitchen cupboards etc.… Painting/ minor maintenance as and when required. And any other relevant duties connected to the cleanliness & tidiness of the pavilion inside and outside necessary for the hire and general good upkeep of the facility. Sherington Sports Ground Duties include: Weekly play area inspection checked and signed Inspection Report to be completed after checking each time. Inspection Report to be delivered to the Parish Council monthly to authorise action, unless there is a more urgent requirement. Litter clearing in and around children’s play area, sports field, car park and surrounding areas. Emptying of outside litter bins if they have not been done by the Council. To tidy the car park, and sweep pathways and access road in and around the facility to keep it tidy. To mark-up the football pitch before matches and cricket boundary line. To erect the football goals, nets, spectator rope barriers etc. as required before every game during the relevant seasons.

Sherington Life You all know this is written at least three weeks in advance, so today the Feathered Friends are basking in the tropical delights of an October in Sherington! Who knows what it will be like when the SCAN pops through your letterbox but we are on the slippery slope to Christmas and there ain’t nothing we can do about it. On to Sherington happenings, on 1st October the annual Pat Quinn Memorial Golf Trophy was held at the Wavendon Golf Course. It was described as the worse course ever but it was the same for everyone and this was sadly reflected In the scores! Everyone received a prize this year, thanks to kind donations from Sheila and friends and the winner, Dave Carter, got to keep the Darlington Glass tankard. There was only one lady golfer, Sarah Jackson, who won a lovely pack of balls, while Sheila got to kiss all the competitors. We have a suspicion that next year’s tournament may be held offshore shall we say - and who could blame them? It has been a bit quiet in Sherington over the past few weeks, either you are not telling us what is happening (sharing is caring) or there is really nothing going on, and as the Devil makes work, here is something to keep you occupied, a hand knitted Christmas Pudding. I know, you don’t have to thank us. Ingredients: Double knitting yarn brown and white, size 4mm needles, green felt, 3 seed beads, few inches of glittery thread. k = knit, p= purl, tog = together Recipe Using brown (leave long tail for sewing up) cast on 20 stitches. k1 p1 rib for 8 rows. Change to white yarn, knit 2 rows, knit 1 row, purl 1 row. Start decreasing : k1, k2 together along row until last stitch, k1. Purl next row. K1, k2 tog along row, p1 row. Cut off thread (leave enough to sew up, thread through stitches on needle) Sewing up Pull stitches on white tight, with right sides together sew up, stop when you get to the brown. Start from the other end and sew up the brown. Fasten off the end securely. Using green felt cut out a tiny holly shape with 3 leaves. Sew 3 red seed beads on and securely sew the whole thing to the top of the pudding. Thread glittery thread

SHERINGTON SHORT MAT BOWLS CLUB NEWS Honorary Membership On Monday 18th September the Membership of Sherington Short Mat Bowls Club gathered in the Village Hall to make an award to long standing club members Bill and Pearl Page.
Having given sterling service to the club over many years Bill and Pearl have decided to hang up their bowling shoes.
These two very popular members brought to the club a vast knowledge and skill from which we have all benefited enormously.
In addition Bill and Pearl are great ambassadors for the game which made them firm favorites both at home and away.
Pam Clarridge (Club Chair) presented them with the Honorary Membership award, thanked them on behalf of the club, and hoped that we would see them again whenever they wished to visit Sherington.

FUND RAISING FOR ST LAUDS CHURCH - UPDATE Twice recently we have been told in Scan how much it costs to run and maintain St Lauds Church. Where is the money coming from? As residents of Sherington village it is our responsibility, even if we are not churchgoers, to see that the church is looked after. Generations before us have done so, now it is our turn. There is an easy way to give money at no cost to yourselves. All you have to do initially is to go to easyfundraising.org.uk , follow the instructions on the website and nominate St Lauds Church, Sherington as your chosen charity. Then every time that you shop online go to easyfundraising where there are 3000 companies waiting to give the church account a percentage of the cost of your purchase. You can buy anything from pet insurance to airfares. Amazon are in the scheme and you will know that they sell a wide variety of goods - tools, trainers, sheets, as well as books and C.D's to name but a few. The procedure is easy - go to the easyfundraising website and check if the company from whom you wish to make a purchase is in the scheme and. if so, click on the name and make your purchase. Easyfundraising will do the rest. If you don't shop online yourself maybe you know someone who does, your son, a cousin or a friend. Perhaps you could persuade them to sign up. Katherine Gotts has not lived in the village since 1984, when she left to go to university, but to date she has contributed £328 of the current total of £699. We celebrated Harvest Festival at St. Lauds on Sunday October 15th supported by a healthy congregation, including those from SCAN villages. There was also a family christening so it was altogether a service of Thanksgiving. But that particular service had its importance for another reason because the following week will see a SCAN Resident Minister in the name of Reverend Coralie Mansfield joining the SCAN living, thus the responsibility of ‘Holding the Fort’ of SCAN Parishes held by Reverend Pam and Professor John Fielding will be somewhat relieved. So, Thank You Pam and John – when you first came into this area in 1980 you didn’t know what the future would hold, but we all know now. The dignity you have both held and portrayed has been beyond measure……..So Well Done, Thou Good and Faithful Servants. Thank you and May God go with you.

NEWS FROM SHERINGTON CE SCHOOL
This has been a fantastic Autumn term at Sherington CE School and our creative curriculum topics are enabling the children to enjoy our beautiful and extensive grounds.
Our Reception Robins Class have made some friendly leaf creatures using materials collected from their dedicated outdoor classroom. They have also had fun inside using our exciting new classroom equipment from Community Playthings; they decided to create a baby clinic to explore their topic ‘People who help us’. I think you will agree the babies look very happy in their lovely hand knitted outfits which were kindly donated to us. A visit from a Pets as Therapy dog Millie was also very popular. Our KS1 Owls Class started the term with an exciting trip to Warwick Castle exploring their topic ‘Towers, Tunnels Turrets. They have also been enjoying their new outdoor area using Autumn as their inspiration in English, as well as participating in outdoor maths fun. Sherington Church Bazaar Time is ticking ever closer to Christmas and at the Sherington Bazaar on Friday 24th November 6-8pm will give you one for the first chances to get into the festive mood. We will be having our new Rector, Coralie Mansfield open the bazaar. We have the children from the village school will be singing carols at the beginning and then the Sherington Folk Band playing festive tunes during the evening. There will be a number of craft stalls as well as some of the old favourites like homemade cakes, tombola, a books stall. As well as a number of games for the children, including how many sweets in the jar etc. there will also be a drawing competition for the younger ones that will be judged on the night by Mr Philip Smith. If you want to pick up a bargain this is the place to come. This is a fun raising event for various village organisations, so your support of this event will be most welcome. St Laud's Church Autumn Quiz
St Laud’s Church, are holding their annual quiz on Saturday 11th November 2017 Rather than going for Fish and Chips this year we are to be providing pizzas from 7:00pm, with the quiz due to finish at about 10pm Tickets £10 per person (sold in advance of evening to know pizza order). Teams of 6 people is ideal, but if not don’t worry, we can make up teams on the night. There is a Prize for Winning Team! Plant a Bulb Weekend! Thank you so much to everyone who has planted bulbs in previous years. They looked wonderful this spring. So popular that we’re doing it again! BULBS will be available from St Laud’s Church porch. The holes will be pre-dug. Just collect your bulbs - leave a donation to the Church in the wall safe, choose your hole and plant. Couldn’t be simpler ... then come back in the spring to see the colour!

October 10th : Members Can Talk
A good evening was had by all on the evening, there was a good mixture of music, talking and humour. Liz introduced a piece of music about Elizabeth Woodville and Edward IV and the going's on at Grafton Regis. Pearl spoke about the a poem that she wrote for the Alabaster family newsletter and how t came about. Philip spoke about the boundaries of the village and there connections and stories which included him being the ferryman for the day. Shelia Q talked about something she found out about after some very interesting family history research, and Mark introduced a folk song video about the Dunkirk Little ships and Teddington, where about 150 boats left from for the Dunkirk evacuations in 1940.
