WHATISSKIJORING?
Skijoring is a competition in which a horse and rider pull a skier along a course that has gates, jumps and rings. The competitors race for cash, buckles, and other prizes. The course allows the horse to run at top speed with the skier navigating slalom gates and jumps ranging from two to seven feet high. Competitors often use short skis and modified waterskiing towing equipment, though often this is as simple as a single tow rope looped around the horn or attached to the back of a western saddle. The horses are equipped with safety gear such as splint boots and bell boots. Western saddles are most commonly used in skijoring due to their sturdy build and pulling ability.
The Sheridan WYO Winter Rodeo welcomes five classes of teams in 2023: Open, Sport, Novice, Youth and Snowboard. The Sheridan WYO Winter Rodeo strives to introduce competitors and spectators to the sport of Equestrian Skijoring and welcomes all skijoring fans to Sheridan, Wyoming.
Fact: The word "Skijoring" is derived from the Norwegian word "kjøring." The word means to "drive." When combined with the familiar term, "ski," Skijoring can be translated to "ski driving."

Dress in layers! The average temperature in February in Sheridan, Wyoming is a high of 39 degrees and a low of 15 degrees! (It can get colder!)
While the official races start on February 18, there are a variety of events leading up to the event! Take a look below for more fun activities and entertainment.
Bring cash & card. While the event is free, you can shop and dine from a variety of vendors and food trucks during the event.
Pack some Hothands to the event. These are great to put in gloves, pockets, and socks just in case you catch a chill!
