A Race for a Cause!

On Saturday October 7th, Sheridan House Family Ministries hosted its 4th annual Goliath Gauntlet Obstacle Race on our Davie campus.

This year’s epic event had 1,785 participants, over 200 volunteers and close to 400 spectators. The event raised over $230,000, 100% of which goes to support the children’s homes at Sheridan House.

The Goliath Gauntlet is a 3-mile run combined with 21 obstacles is dubbed the Goliath Gauntlet as it challenges participants to face many physically and mentally challenging “giants”. Some competitors race to beat their time while others tackle the course with friends for some team bonding.

The next Goliath Gauntlet will be held on Saturday April 14th, 2018. This race has sold out the past two years and will definitely sell out again in 2018. For more information, pictures, and the 2017 recap video, please visit www.goliathgauntlet.com.

Although the event is a fundraiser, here is the real reason for putting it on: thousands of people, who wouldn’t typically come to Sheridan House, get to see the work God is doing through the various ministries we operate.

This past year, a coach from a local gym dropped off a tent for the event. As he was about to leave, he hesitated then turned around to ask if there was anyone available to talk about marriage. He had been raised by a single mom and admitted he did not know how to be a husband or a father.

Because of this event we were able to provide Christian counseling to this new family. Praise God! The average age of the racers is 34 years old (55% male and 45% female), which is ideal as it encompasses various stages of life that Sheridan House is equipped to support through seminars, counseling services, single parent assistance, and/or children’s homes. Even if the participants do not need our help, they know someone who does.

Many of the single moms in our program are struggling due to lost wages from the impact of Hurricane Irma.

Our goal is 10,000 cars! When we get to 10,000 cars, the proceeds from the Family Values tag will completely fund one of our children’s homes! The annual use fee for the Family Values tag is $25.00.
