New York City is home to more than eight million people and, even in a city of this size, we are all connected through the communities we create together and our common goals and dreams. At Sheltering Arms, we recognize this connection and firmly believe that to grow as a society, we must give back and help our fellow community members. Thanks to the commitment of our Board, dedication of our staff, and generosity of our sponsors and supporters, we are able to build brighter futures for those we serve. A homeless youth is connected to stable housing and pursues a degree in social work. A mother whose family healed through mental health services raises children in a loving, supportive home. Pre-K students develop a love of learning to help them become the teachers and mentors of the future. A woman whose community is torn apart by gun violence takes a stand for peace and inspires others to do the same. Tonight, we celebrate the ways we are growing together. We thank Morgan Stanley for the impact their continued partnership, volunteerism, and generosity has made on the children, youth, and families we serve every day. We also recognize youth who have grown from the help they received and are now serving as advocates and role models for the next generation. As you enjoy the evening, please reflect on what helped you grow into the person you are today and envision what your generosity today can make possible for someone else’s tomorrow. Thank you as always for your support!

Elizabeth McCarthy CEO

Kenneth M. Kramer Chairman of the Board of Directors

For more than 50 years, Morgan Stanley has supported healthy starts and solid educations for the children of our communities . When thinking about organizations working to give New York City’s families and children a bright future – Sheltering Arms is top of the list. “Giving Back” is a stated core value of Morgan Stanley and the firm measures its progress towards this goal. In June of 2019 alone, as part of its annual Global Volunteer Month, 52,000 employees from 36 countries delivered over 270,000 hours of service through hundreds of volunteer programs. Since 2006, and corresponding with the roll-out of the firm’s Global Volunteer Month, Morgan Stanley has partnered with Sheltering Arms on a range of projects, both financial and volunteer-oriented, steadily increasing its interactions and support. By 2011, Sheltering Arms took part in Morgan Stanley’s Strategy Challenge, the firm’s flagship program where it provides pro bono advice over ten weeks to organizations facing a key strategic challenge. Today, in addition to financial support, the partnership between Morgan Stanley and Sheltering Arms has grown to include many opportunities to “Give Back,” from financial literacy programs to the exploration of different career opportunities in today’s economy to gift drives and reading programs to children. As a longstanding Sheltering Arms board member, Carl Contiguglia, Managing Director in the Investment Banking Division at Morgan Stanley, has embraced both Morgan Stanley’s culture of “Giving Back” and the Sheltering Arms mission of enhancing the education, well-being, and development of children and families in New York’s most underserved communities. Whether through organizing grassroots volunteer opportunities for his colleagues or providing his time and insights at the Board of Sheltering Arms, Carl Contiguglia is only one example of the hundreds of Morgan Stanley employees who make a difference.

Make a Pledge To truly transform the life of a child in New York City, we need the support of leaders like you. Here are a few examples of what your generosity delivers. We invite you to give back to our city’s most vulnerable and help them grow. $2,500 can pay for a homeless youth to have a professional internship with a mentor. $1,000 can cover a career exploration trip for children in our Afterschool Program. $500 can supply instruments for our music therapy program and heal trauma among at-risk youth. $250 can provide a new library for an Early Childhood Education classroom. $100 can cover professional attire for a teen in foster care pursuing their first job.

would like to thank Honoree Morgan Stanley Honorary Chairs Carl and Caroline Contiguglia Benefit Co-Chairs and Vice- Chairs

Meet our Youth Ambassadors Oheine has been involved with Sheltering Arms since high school and is currently the president of the Youth Social Justice Corps. He is pursuing a career as a graphic designer to help illustrate that you can change the world through design. A special video shown tonight will share more about Oheine’s story. Queen is a long time member of the Far Rockaway Youth Center. Like many young people in Far Rockaway, she was impacted by community violence. She was one of the first participants of our Rock Safe Streets program where she increased her work readiness and commitment to non-violence. Queen is a recent high school graduate, a mother of one, and is currently applying to college to study engineering. She will recite an original poem tonight. Dominic is the first resident of the Sheltering Arms New Home program. The program secures apartments for homeless youth and helps them overcome common barriers to stable housing. Dominic moved into his new apartment in December and a special video shown tonight will share more about his story.
