Three Easy Ways to Register

Registrations for recreation, athletics and special events may be made in the Parks office, by phone with credit card payment or by mailing in a registration form with payment. Registrations will be processed as they arrive and will be handled on a first come/first serve basis unless otherwise noted. Signing up for one class does not guarantee a space in the next class session if the class is ongoing. You must pre-register for each individual class session. Registration forms may be found in the Parks office All fees must be paid before services can be given!

Refund Information

Once a program begins it is not policy to refund enrollment fees. If an instructor becomes ill and the class must be canceled and not rescheduled, refunds will be made.

We are located in the Carl McNeely Civic Center building (the old Junior-Senior High). If you are coming from Colescott Street turn left on Meridian Street, then straight to Second Street.

Turn left on Second Street - go one block up to South Tompkins Street turn right, our entrance will be on the right hand side of the road.

Cancellation of Programs Programs listed will be offered unless the number enrolled fall under the minimum that is listed. After programs are underway, cancellations will occur only if the instructor is sick and unable to attend or the weather causes us to cancel. To check on cancellation of classes, please call 392-5128. To check evening activities to see if a cancellation has occurred call the Parks office before 4:00pm on the day of the program.

Photo Policy

If photos are taken of participants in a class, during a special event or at our park facilities, they are for parks and recreation usage only and may be used in the park brochures, flyers or on the parks & recreation website.

Meetings are held the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month at the Carl McNeely Civic Center at 4:15pm. The meetings are open to the public.

Shelbyville Parks & Recreation worked with U.S. Fish & Wildlife, Department of Natural Resources, Quail Forever and our local co-op to put in 20 acres of quail habitat and butterfly habitat at Blue River Memorial Park. This process takes about 3 years to fully develop. Our farmer, Mark Callahan, planted the seed last fall. It should be beautiful in 3 years.

This is to help bring back the monarch butterflies which are near extinction and to bring back quail to Indiana but it will be another great attraction to Blue River Memorial Park as well.

One is a "Re-Create Recreation" fund that helps the Parks build new projects or programs.

The second is called "Access to Recreation" which is to help make all parks accessible.

If you wish to give to either of these funds, please contact Jennifer Jones at the Blue River Community Foundation at (317)392-7955 and specifically request these funds.

FestivalLights Indiana Grand Racing & Casino and the City of Shelbyville are happy to announce a "Festival of Lights" at Blue River Memorial Park!

The display of Christmas lights will start with the city's Holiday Parade on December 4th. Due to construction downtown the parade will start at Wal-Mart and go through Blue River Memorial Park through the Festival of Lights and back to Wal-Mart. The Festival of Lights will remain open until December 24th. The hours for the display will be 5:00 pm to 9:30 pm. There will be a donation mailbox at the end of the light displays for the Parks Department to extend more displays in the future.

Girl’s Softball Camp

The Shelby County Girls Softball League is partnering with the Shelbyville High School softball team and coaches to bring you this camp.

SHS coaches and players will work with all campers on the fundamentals of throwing, fielding, batting, running and sliding.

Blue River Run is a two-acre dog park located in Blue River Memorial Park. It features 3 seperate areas, one for dogs of all shapes and sizes to enjoy, one for dogs under 25 lbs., and one for dogs over 25 lbs. The dog park is completely fenced with an 31) y uar Jan is nts (Deadline for ALL applica electric gate entry system. This gate system will limit entry to members only who have shown proof that their dog(s) are properly vaccinated, parasite free and spayed or neutered. We want this park to be safe for pets and people. Any dogs displaying aggresive behavior will be asked to leave. The dog park consists of walk ways, shade trees, a watering station and plenty of open area for running.

Shot records: you must show proof before receiving a key fob. Required by law. Rabies (RV), Bordetella, Lepto, DHPP or DA2PPV, which is Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus and Parainfluenza.
