The Greater Shelby County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its 3rd annual Student Career Awareness Fair at the Shelby County Exhibition Center in Columbiana on Tuesday, September 12 and Wednesday, September 13 for Shelby County 10th grade students. We are seeking volunteers to spend a day (8:00AM - 3:00PM) or 1/2 day sharing your expertise with the students. There are 16 “career clusters/ areas” needing multiple volunteers in each to share with the students what they can expect in the “real world” what it’s like to work in a particular career field such

Summer is fast approaching and of course you will need a cool pair of sunglasses to welcome the warm weather and sunshine. Just remember that it is more than just style; sunglasses are also going to be your safety glasses. We have found that the sun's UVA, UVB and blue ray light waves damage the pigment cells in your retina and the lens in your eye. As you get older, this can result in macular degeneration, cataracts, skin cancers, and wrinkles.

Selecting the right pair of sunglasses is like choosing a good sunscreen- they are not all the same. Make sure that you are getting the protection

Tourism & Recreation Work Group Formed As part of the 2017 Business Plan, the Chamber has formed a Tourism & Recreation Work Group. The purpose of the group will be to:  serve as the liaison between all sectors of Shelby County’s tourism and recreation industry,  provide assistance in promotion and development of tourism-related events and recreational activities throughout Shelby County, and  encourage the use of Shelby County hotels, campgrounds, parks, bed

& breakfasts and other participating lodging facilities during our visitors’ stay in our communities.

An initial group of investors in the tourism & recreation sector held a formation meeting to gauge interest and discuss a potential schedule.

That group determined that meeting on the first Friday of each month from 8:30AM 9:30AM would potentially give a majority of businesses in the tourism & recreation sector a convenient time to meet.

The group also decided that meeting at various locations

throughout Shelby County would help familiarize work group members with all that our communities have to offer in tourism and recreation.

While the group’s focus is on tourism and recreation, participation in the group — like all of the Chamber’s Work Groups — is open to any employee of any Chamber investor firm.

Ambassador of the Month Congratulations to our Ambassador of the Month Andy Healy. Andy is the Director of Community Operations and Co-Owner with Selective Management Services in Pelham. In this role, Andy looks after and manages Homeowner Associations for a number of communities in Shelby and Jefferson County, AL. He handles day-today operations, performs ongoing maintenance duties, and communicates with residents. In addition, Andy is responsible for executing on all Board decisions and ensuring that all homeowners comply with the CC&Rs and adhere to state statutes.

Andy is working on his qualifications through Community Associations Institute and holds a Bachelor of Science in Management from the University of Phoenix. Andy is a Certified Professional Property Manager (CPPM) through the
