Hey, I'm Adam, and I'm running to be a student trustee next year. I'm on a year abroad at the moment, but before this I've been heavily involved in the SU for 4 years. I've had roles on 4 different committees and have been an active member of countless societies and sports clubs. As vice chair of Bummit I worked with a number of different SU staff and got a feel for the strategic running of the SU, hence my desire to become a trustee, and working in TSC has given me an idea of the SU’s commercial side. With the current situation, the SU has very important decisions to make, and I want to be there to champion the good that societies and clubs can do for us all, SU members, now, and in the long term. I hope with my wealth of experience and many hours put into the SU under my belt, you’d trust me to be one of your next student trustees.

As you can see from my name, I come from a diversified background. My Muslim/Christian family allowed me to care for various aspects without bias. I know firsthand the frustration of not being heard or properly represented and I aim to erase that feeling from the hearts of my fellow students. Moreover, I am driven by the firm belief that all opinions are equally important and that every student has the right to be heard.

Earlier, I represented my department during my undergraduate years and I am eager to carry on with this responsibility on my shoulders to help and empower fellow students. I plan to ensure that students’ thoughts, ideas, and personal perspectives are strongly voiced and communicated. Hence, I am fixed on devoting 40 hours per week to engage and listen and communicate with fellow students. The feedback and inputs of all students within University of Sheffield are enables the SU to perform at its best in the right direction, which is the welfare of every student.

To sum up, I’ve always been a strong advocate of transparency and stakeholder involvement. Accordingly, representing fellow students who are the prime stakeholders of the SU is a massive honor that I wish to do justice and properly uphold.

Hello everyone!

My name is Levente Babcsan, and I am a second year psychology student from Hungary hoping to represent you at the Student's Union Trustee Board. This year, I became a faculty representative, and have had the joy to represent my fellow students and help the staff improve their approach on how to deliver online teaching in these troublesome times. I have enjoyed this role far more than I originally thought I would, with all the nuances of trying to balance out the problems that students have and the views of the teachers, who want the best for us. I have also had my fair share of difficulties since I had to temporarily leave the UK because of the pandemic, but when I reached out for help from my friends and teachers at Sheffield, they were there for me and did everything they could to support me, even though my problems were foreign to them. That has aided me in realising how crucial it is not to leave anyone behind, even if that requires us to step out of our bubbles and to try to view the situations from someone else's perspective. I would like to step out of my own bubble, and find out the issues that our community faces, so that we can all move ahead and come out of this world crisis feeling closer to each other.

Hi everyone! I’m Mark, and I hope to remain one of your elected student trustees for 2021-22. I’m an international student from Egypt in my third year of engineering at Sheffield. Currently, I’m serving as one of the student trustees in the SU Board and I would like to represent your views for one more year, hopefully transitioning our SU into a Covid-free world. Together, we can improve our experience here at Sheffield, and I promise you that I will do my best in representing your views to the SU board.

Hi I’m Morgan I’ve been a student here since 2017, and work within the SU, in Bar One, alongside my degree – so I’ve already got a good handle on how the SU runs as a charity. This will help me get to work straightaway and help spread student’s voices from the get-go.

I think now, more than ever, we need a big push from the people working on the inside to make our opinions, as students, be heard. Many of us feel let down by what the SU have (or haven’t) done over the last year, leaving many of us to feel voiceless.

I have been a part of many of the petitions and letters going around social media (Sheffessions…I’m looking at you), but what actually happened to them? Many of us signed them, felt a sense of hope, and then they just slowly left from our thoughts. Well, I want to change that. I want to make sure that when we act as a community, our voices do make it through to the people in charge.

I bet most students didn’t even know this role existed, and there will be a lot more stuff within the SU that many students will be unaware of. I want to make the wall between us, as students, and the SU more transparent so that in the future when we want to make ourselves heard, we can.

Using my prior military experience and planning and problem solving skills, as a Computer Science Student, I will try to provide well thought out solutions to problems that may arise. In addition, I will always be open to new suggestions and ideas from everyone who offers one. The past year has been hard for everyone but I believe next year will be full of activities and I will make sure that those activities will be inclusive fun and very helpful for anyone that is interested. Concluding, I can understand that through these 250 words none will get to know me but I give you my word that I will give 110% of my efforts to do what is best for the students of this university.
