DESCRIPTION Being a leader means taking responsibility for your members and activities.

This session will cover the key responsibilities of a President/ Chair, the leadership skills you will develop during your time in post, and what to do if you encounter problems.

Learn about how your accounts work, how to report on your finances, claim for expenses, make payments, and apply for more funding.

At this session, you will have the opportunity to meet other inclusions officers, and discuss how you might make your society or committee as inclusive as possible.

Learn how to introduce yourself and your society work positively, using positive language. Find out how to improve your body language and manage your visibility.

Developing your

These are sessions with your SU Campaigns Coordinator to help develop your campaigning ideas and/or turn ideas into a plan of action. These will run on a flexible drop-in basis with up to 45 min per society available, but please indicate which day you are likely to come by signing up for that date.

(Please note: these drop-in sessions will not be HEAR-able)

You will develop a wealth of key skills and qualities that are valuable to employers through your participation in Societies and Committees. In this session you will learn what these skills are and how to articulate them to recruiters in your applications and interviews.

Forward planning is the key to success for all Societies in this session we’ll look at different ways to ensure success, set aims and objectives and maintain momentum and team morale throughout the year.

Your Society Page on the SU website is often the first thing prospective members look at when they’re thinking of joining a Society. This session will teach you how to get the most out of your website from selling tickets to your Society events to managing your membership.

All committee members have a responsibility to understand how to safely, and legally, collect, store and use membership data. New legislation (known as General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)) has come into force and it’s important that we all understand it if we are to successfully use and protect our data. In this session you will learn about: • What GDPR is and what it means for societies/committees • Letting your members know what you will do with their data • Keeping data safe • When you can share data (and when you can’t) • What to do if someone asks for you to stop contacting them • When to delete old data • Things to think about if you need to take electronic payments • What to do if you have a problem/question

HIGHER EDUCATION ACHIEVEMENT REPORT Undergraduate students: You have the opportunity to have your 2018/19 committee position recorded in your Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR).

In order for staff to be able to record your position in your HEAR there are some required tasks that you need to complete.

These are: 1. Submit your Committee Details Part B form by Friday 19th October 2018 at the latest; 2. Attend the full duration of a Students’ Union committee training session; 3. Stay in your role until the agreed date of handover to the 2019/20 committee member after the next committee election in Society Election Fortnight (i.e. April/May 2019); 4. Submit a Committee Member Exit Form between 18th March and 10th May 2019 If you complete all of the above, then a description of your society/committee and a description of your position will be added to your HEAR by staff on 30th June 2019.

Please also be aware of the following: • You can attend any training session which interests you.

• You must attend the full duration of a training session. If you arrive more than 5 minutes late, or leave before the end, your attendance of the session will not be counted - you would need to attend another session.

• If you have a committee position on two committees, you will need to attend two training sessions if you would like both roles to be recorded on your HEAR. This includes if you have the same position, e.g. Secretary, on both committees.

• If you attended training in 2017/18 for a committee role, you still need to attend a training session from the 2018/19 training programme – even if you have the same role.

• Attendance can only be monitored for training sessions organised by Students’ Union staff for committee members. No external training, or training delivered for other roles, can count.
