Students are expected to remain or become fully involved in extracurricular school sport. Practical performers will represent the school in their chosen sport and involve themselves in coaching at some of the sports clubs.
• Exercise physiology and biomechanical movement • Socio-Cultural and Historical effects on participation and performance • The analysis and improvement of performance through physical performance and coaching • The role of technology in physical activity and sport What does this subject involve? • On-going performance and/ or coaching in sports with participation in school sports clubs/teams or external clubs • 30% practical assessment on the above • Two written exams – two hour papers
• Ability to express applications of concepts in writing • A good general knowledge of a range of sports • An interest in current sporting issues • Ability to or desire to learn how to perform or coach at a high level What about future prospects and careers? An A-Level in Physical Education is useful for sports related careers including teaching, coaching, sports development, recreation management, equipment design and manufacturing. Do I need to have studied this for GCSE? It is advisable but not essential.
