What will I be studying? The first year of the course is focused upon British Politics looking at a range of topics such as political parties, the role of the Prime Minister and protection of human rights. The second year of the course deals with political ideologies, such as socialism and feminism and American Politics.
What does this subject involve? There will be lots of discussion of key points. Short answer work and essays. What skills or qualities will I need? • An interest in the subject • An enquiring and lively mind • An enjoyment of discussion and debate • An ability to express yourself well in discussion and on paper • An openness to new ideas and other people’s views What about future prospects and careers? A Politics A-Level is useful for careers in accountancy, law, banking and finance, business, civil service, human resources, management, journalism, medicine, politics, television and radio.
Do I need to have studied this for GCSE? No.
Additional information An annual visit to the Houses of Parliament is organised.
