The Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting 2013 – Writing Workshops Sat 10 November 10.00am – 12.30pm (Open Access, age 14+) 1.30 – 4.00pm (Advanced, age 18+) The Bruntwood Prize is the search for great new plays – the biggest national competition of its kind. Winning plays have been produced at the Royal Exchange Theatre and beyond. The Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting 2013 will be open for submissions in January 2013. Mary Queen of Scots got Her Head Chopped Off by Liz Lochhead Mon 1 October A ferociously witty take on one of the most well–known rivalries of all time. The Lion in Love by Shelagh Delaney Mon 5 November A rollicking and authentic portrait of the English working classes. Cinderella by Mike Kenny Mon 10 December The Olivier Award–winning Mike Kenny’s take on this traditional fairytale.

Macbeth and Clown – Playing the Tragedy Mon 17 September 6.00 – 9.00pm (Open Access, age 14+) Led by Gerry Flanagan, Artistic Director of Shifting Sands Theatre, explore scenes from Macbeth from the viewpoint of the Clown to release the beauty and magic of Shakespeare’s text. £8.00

Panel Event Men are from Mars, Playwrights are from Venus: Does Playwright Gender Matter? Fri 2 November 1.00pm – 2.00pm Join a panel of writers and theatre makers reflecting on depictions of gender and sexuality in our autumn season. Check our website for updates on line–up. £5.00

From Delaney to Skinner: Women at Work in Theatre Sat 29 September 10.00am – 5.00pm Lyndsey Turner, Sheffield Theatres’ Associate Director, leads this practical workshop exploring female playwrights in theatre. Investigate whether a playwright’s gender has an impact on the roles they create and the ways they communicate with an audience. £15.00

Performing Musical Theatre Sat 12 January 10.30am – 12.30pm (Open Access, age 14+) Become part of a chorus and perform a short musical number! Led by Nigel Lilley, Musical Director of My Fair Lady. £6.00

Theatre Experience Carousel Thu 4 October 1.00 – 4.00pm (Open Access, age 14+) See Macbeth behind the scenes – learn about the sound, lighting, costumes and sets. A must for school groups and for anyone who wants to see how theatre really works. £8.00
