There have been many challenges this year and many opportunities to make a difference. Countless things have surprised me, but I have not been surprised by those who have continued to support our communities, our patients, and most of all each other.

The doors of PeaceHealth St. John are open, and we are ready to care for everyone who needs us. The path forward includes the need for the Foundation to continue to support our local hospital. A new cardiac catherization lab, enhanced behavioral health programs, and improving community health are our priorities for this year.

Community steps up in a big way We are so grateful for neighbors who showed their love of their community hospital with overwhelming support.

While the medical staff of PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center swung into action to care for patients with COVID-19, the community was hard at work collecting donations, supplies, and messages filled with encouraging words.

To all the health care workers on the front line, you are sunshine amongst the clouds.

Items of every description poured into the Foundation, including homemade cloth masks (18,000 and counting!), gloves, cleaning and sanitation supplies, face shields, and N-95 masks.

Tasty snacks were also donated for staff to grab a quick bite on the run.

Thank you to everyone who went above and beyond the call to help PeaceHealth St. John caregivers care for the patients we serve.

Retired pharmacist on her way to sewing 1,000 masks for PeaceHealth St. John!

When Randi Slotte heard there was a need for homemade masks in March, she got right to work.

“I knew I had to do something to help,” explains Randi.

To date, Randi has donated nearly 830 masks to PeaceHealth St. John Foundation. Two or three times a month Randi makes the drive from her home in Clatskanie to drop off the masks made by her and a friend. The masks are shared with patients, visitors, the Cowlitz County Health Department, and first responders. When asked about the number of masks she sews, Randi says, “I’ll reach 1,000 by October!”

We are grateful for generous people like Randi who care so much about helping those in need.

Outpouring of support We have received a generous donation of Arm & Hammer laundry detergent from consumer product company Church & Dwight.

Thanks to their generosity, the Dove Pantries at Longview and Vancouver—pantries in the hospitals offering food, personal necessities, school supplies and even diapers—are now stocked with 300 bottles of detergent. Caregivers can stock up on essential items at no cost from the donor-supported Dove Pantry.

Two funds created for COVID-19 relief

Two funds were established by PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center Foundation to support the critical and unique needs to treat patients and assist caregivers during this ongoing pandemic.

COVID-19 Emergency Response fund: Supporting the needs of our community Designed to meet the unexpected and growing financial challenges responding to this pandemic, this fund supports our immediate crisis-related needs. Donors to this fund have had a direct impact on our COVID-19 response through the purchase of equipment and testing supplies for direct patient care.

COVID-19 Caregiver fund: Supporting caregivers in need The Heroes fund provides grants to PeaceHealth caregivers who have experienced direct economic hardship as a result of the COVID-19 crisis.

Caregivers receive grants based on financial need to lessen their burden during this stressful time.

Investing in a healthier community PeaceHealth St. John Foundation is raising money for these important projects.

World-class Cardiac Care Cardiac cases are rising in our community and more people are turning to us for help. The cardiology program at PeaceHealth St. John is equipped to meet the needs of patients with heart conditions from primary care to immediate lifesaving intervention.

PeaceHealth St. John is expanding the capabilities of our cardiology department to meet the needs of the community. The foundation continues to raise funds to support the state-of-the-art equipment necessary to provide this excellent level of care.

We are deeply committed to improving the health of our entire community. By expanding our Community Paramedicine Program, patients identified as high-risk for hospital readmissions receive outreach, education and basic health care services to help achieve better overall health outcomes.

•

Patients diagnosed with malnutrition may enroll in the Food Farmacy program, an aftercare outreach that provides the patient with 3 days of nutritious food for themselves and their family. Connections to no-cost food banks coupled with this successful program enable the patient to focus on getting well without worrying about finding their next meal.

•

A new partnership with Meals on Wheels helps discharged patients who self-report as food insecure and isolated. Individuals not typically served by this organization (those under the age of 60), receive two protein-rich meals per day for 90 days delivered to their home.

At PeaceHealth St. John, we address the unique needs of our patients and community members, improving their health for the long term—beyond the care we provide within our facilities walls.

PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center Foundation BOARD OF DIRECTORS 2020-2021

We are pleased to announce that PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center has received two notable awards for excellence in heart care and maternity care.

The Foundation for Health Care Quality’s Cardiac Care Outcomes Assessment Program (COAP) recognized PeaceHealth St. John as a topperforming cardiac site.

Shaun Ageno, MD, Medical Director for Cardiology, is proud of the COAP recognition.
