Clogged ... in Lostant Lostant discusses issues at water treatment plant By Zachary J. Pratt news@tonicanews.com
LOSTANT — The Lostant Village Board discussed issues at the water treatment plant at its meeting, Monday, Oct. 12. Mitch McCaw told the board that aerators have been plugged at the treatment plant. “They’re pretty deep,” McCaw said. “Unless you’ve got scuba gear, if anyone wants to volunteer.” McCaw said it appears that adult diapers are being flushed down and are clogging up the system.
“I’d be afraid to flush them down,” Mayor Fred Hartenbower said, citing the possibility they might not make it even 20 feet. “I’d have a heck of a mess.” Also relating to the water department, Dave Mertes presented a request. “I got a letter from the library. They’d like a water spigot somewhere they have access to. They want to be able to water their landscaping, is what they said,” he said. In other discussion: • Bob Lenhausen, a resident of Lostant, came to tell the board he will not be mowing the property next to his, which he believes belongs to the town, as long as
the walnut trees there remain. “I’m wore out,” Lenhausen said. “I just can’t handle raking up all those walnuts every year, so I’m giving up on it.” If the town removes the trees so walnuts don’t litter the ground, he will continue. “I’d like to have them removed if you want me to go back to mowing it again, but I’m done picking up walnuts,” Lenhausen said. The topic later returned to trimming and cutting down trees. In the case of any tree, the town will check whose property the plant occupies. “If they’re nice, healthy trees, I’m not sure we’ll want to cut them down,” Hartenbower said. “If they’re healthy trees and we don’t
