OREGON – No one will be directly charged in the August death of Oregon teen Jon Williams, Ogle County State’s Attorney Mike Rock said Wednesday. “We’re not going to be able to file a charge against anybody in Jon’s death,” Rock said. “We don’t have anything that would allow us to successfully prosecute that.” But nine people were charged Wednesday with crimes related to the party, during which Williams was hit and later died. Two of those nine were charged with a hate crime. Facing hate crime charges are Justin Coltrain,

DIXON — Crafter Ann Love of Imagine That is gearing up for a special show this weekend. Some of the proceeds will go directly to the Wounded Warrior Project. Love and her partner, Jeff Montavon, have three children between them who served in the military, making the project’s efforts dear to their hearts. Love’s daughter, Sgt. Charli Summers-Betancourt, a medic, was stationed in Iraq. Brandon Montavon, a petty officer 2nd Class aviation electronic technician, was fighting the war on drugs in Central America. And Staff Sgt. Adam Montavon, of the 101st Airborne Division, was a flight medic in Operation Dust Off. “All three of the kids were deployed at the same time, and that was hard for us,” Jeff Montavon said. Adam served two tours in Afghanistan, suffering a few injuries. Jumps and rescues occurred in less than ideal settings, his father said. LOVE CONTINUED ON A4

MORRISON – Three potential state’s witnesses in Nicholas Sheley’s upcoming murder trial have objected to cameras being allowed in the courtroom during their testimonies. A hearing on the objections will begin at 1:30 p.m. Trish Dec. 16 in WhiteJoyce side County Court. On June 13, the court first heard a motion for extended media coverage, to which Whiteside County State’s Attorney Trish Joyce had no objection. It was decided then that any objections filed by witnesses would be handled later. “My concern about coverage of proceedings is generally in regard to pretrial matters, and only if that coverage affects the ability to seat an impartial jury or otherwise jeopardizes the presentation of a case,” Joyce said.
