ROCK FALLS | VIDEO GAMING
Beauty salons want in on action Panel discusses where line should be drawn BY PAM EGGEMEIER peggemeier@saukvalley.com 800-798-4085, ext. 5570
ROCK FALLS – Everybody wants a piece of the video gaming action, and because approval starts with the local liquor licenses, restricting it is falling in the lap of municipalities. State statute requires that gam-
ing license applicants first have a liquor license. The Illinois Gaming Board must then approve the site for a gaming license. Each liquor license allows a maximum of five gaming terminals, but there is no guarantee all five will be awarded. The city’s Ordinance and License Committee on Thursday
discussed some gaming-related situations that would require local restrictions. Mayor Bill Wescott said he has been approached by three beauty salons that want liquor licenses in order to pursue gaming approval.
‘‘
SHE SAID, HE SAID How do I instruct my police officers to do it?
Who’s going to police all of that?
’’
City Administrator Robbin Blackert
Mayor Bill Wescott
The officials were discussing how, exactly, the city would enforce the litany of ordinances drawn up for beauty parlors and barber shops.

DERBY DIVAS READY TO ROLL SATURDAY IN DIXON
City’s signage proposal accepted Amendment still needed for mall sign BY PAM EGGEMEIER peggemeier@saukvalley.com 800-798-4085, ext. 5570
STERLING – Northland Mall’s sign code petition on behalf of new tenant Dunham’s Sports was back on the Plan Commission’s agenda Thursday, but this time it required no action. Two Dunham’s representatives quickly told the panel that they accepted the city’s proposal to put the company’s sign over the main entrance of the mall. The petition had requested that the sign be allowed on an exterior wall of the mall, the company’s preferred choice in its lease agreement with the mall. That would have required an amendment to the city code, which states that the only mall tenants allowed to display signage on the building’s exterior walls are stores that have a separate entrance and exit leading outdoors.
