BEYOND THE BOOKS

The Bloomingdale Public Library continues to be a beacon of shining light “for learning ...for life.” It has been a dynamic place for the Bloomingdale community to gather, learn, and discover ever since its opening to the public in 1975.

The library’s mission is to provide access to high-interest, high-demand, informational, educational, cultural, and recreational library materials and services through a variety of formats and technologies. Encouraging lifelong learning for all ages, the library provides useful and timely access to knowledge, information, and resources.

A journey through the Bloomingdale Public Library website unfolds a plethora of up-to-date programs, services, and opportunities to learn for kids, teens, and adults. A number of services are also available for seniors, businesses, and schools. Computers and computer classes are available for public use, plus scanning stations, Wi-Fi and wireless printing, and the latest in 3D printing, where you can have your 3D creations printed for a small fee.

Borrowing the latest book is always a special indulgence, but the library has so much more for you to explore and enjoy. Check out the large number of new video games, board games, movies and music, too. Whether it’s Xbox 360 or Playstation; the Bloomingdaleopoly board game; new movies, like The Fabelmans; or music CDs, such as Shania Twain or Paramore, family entertainment is center stage and available for free. The library also is home to a Makerspace in the youth services area where members of the community can get creative. The space includes craft equipment, vinyl cutters, button makers, fabric and die cutters, heat press, quilting cutters, sewing machines, a 3D printer and more.

A walk through the library is its own special treat. Have you seen the latest images created by the Artist of the Month featured in the monthly Artist Gallery exhibition? It is located in the main stairwell and Take 5 Zone. All art work is for sale. Are you a local artist and interested in displaying your work? Contact the library for exhibition policies and necessary space request.

The library also has 3 meeting rooms and 1 conference room available for the use of local community groups at a nominal fee.
