SERVING PLANO AND KENDALL COUNTY FOR MORE THAN 40 YEARS

Incident said to involve teacher, 6 students from downstate school By MATT SCHURY mschury@kendallcountynow.com

Yorkville police and Kendall County State’s Attorney Eric Weis are investigating allegations of sexual misconduct and battery involving a teacher and high school students from downstate Herscher, Ill., Yorkville police confirmed Monday morning. An incident report release by

the Yorkville police indicates that the investigation involves “a visiting wrestling coach who traveled through town with his team and staff (Dec. 11-12).” The report adds, “The investigation is regarding the coach providing alcohol to multiple minors and possible sexual misconduct.” The alleged incident took place at a hotel in the 300 block

of Countryside Parkway in Yorkville earlier this month while a wrestling team from Herscher High School was at a tournament in Plano, Yorkville Police Chief Rich Hart said. No charges have been filed in the incident. The Herscher wrestling team was competing in the Reaper Classic tournament in Plano, which was held Dec. 11-12. However, Deanna Carlson Webb, an attorney retained by the families of the alleged victims, said the incident involves six students and a teacher at the school who also works as a coach. Webb said four of the six al-

leged victims are girls and the other two are boys. She said four of the alleged victims are juveniles. Yorkville police and Weis’ office are currently interviewing the juveniles, Hart said. Hart added that a specialist trained to talk to juvenile victims of sexual assault is participating in the interviews. No Kendall County students or adults are involved, according to Hart. Webb was retained by the families Dec. 16, the same day Hart said the incident was reported to the police.

Plano School Board hears update on creation of group By LYLE R. ROLFE news@kendallcountynow.com

Plano School District 88 Board members were updated at recently on the progress of the Plano Area Special Education Cooperative (PASEC), by Superintendent Dr. Hector Garcia. He said they are in the process of completing the PASEC offices for the director and administrative assistants within the Plano District 88 Office. They are housed in the conference room adjacent to his office, Garcia said. The co-op was able to control costs by moving into this building rather than renting space elsewhere, Garcia said, adding that district officials hope to recoup their remodeling costs from the co-op. Plano had been a member of the Kendall County Special Education Cooperative (KCSEC), until several months ago, when Oswego withdrew and the co-op was dissolved. Since then, Plano school board members considered forming their own cooperative and asked the Newark elementary and high school districts and the Lisbon elementary district, which were in the original cooperative, to join them. “We also are accepting applications for the executive director position and hope to start the interviewing process after the break,” Garcia said, referring to the district’s Christmas holiday break. He said they have set a timeline for specific items to be accomplished this month and during January.
