alike. “I had an old friend tell me when he was driving home from Vietnam in December, he remembered the first glimpse of the lights and he knew he was home in Newton, Iowa,” Steve Knight said.
Tuesday, Jasper County Human Resources Director Dennis Simon will be seeking the Board of Supervisors’ approval for 5 new county employees, including a new deputy. If approved, Jason Cunningham would become the newest deputy for the Jasper County Sheriff ’s Office, effective Wednesday. Three other potential hires will be for either parttime or temporary positions within the Secondary Roads Department for snow removal. The fifth position will be a part-time jailor at the Jasper County Jail. Jasper County Treasurer Doug Bishop will seek board approval for several transfer orders. Transfer Order 1311, which is for $132,159.19, would cover the debt payment for the TPI/ Opus Economic Development Grant. Transfer Order 1312, which amounts to $15,582.18, would also cover a debt payment. Skiff Medical Center’s ongoing aim for excellence was recently recognized when the hospital was named winner of the Innovation award at the 2013 Celebrate Business and Economic Impact Awards. Skiff was among a select few award recipients honored by the Greater Des Moines Partnership at a luncheon held Nov. 13 at the Des Moines Mar-
riott. Celebrating 31 years of local economic impact, the awards commemorate the influence recognized companies have had on the local economy in terms of job creation, capital investment, and facility expansion. Fellow winners in a variety of categories included FedEx, John Deere and Bankers Trust.
