From the elegance of the Lilac Ball and the vibrant Lilac Time Arts & Craft Fair to the weekly Farmers Market, the first annual Lombard Outdoor Vintage Day, the Lombard Chamber Golf Outing, the family-favorite Spooktacular, and our 2nd annual Candy Cane Lane Holiday Market these events not only bring our community together but also serve as dynamic platforms for local vendors,
artisans and businesses to engage with new audiences in fresh, tech-enabled ways.

Greetings FROM THE VILLAGE PRESIDENT
As a 35-year resident of this wonderful community, it has been my honor to serve as your Village President for the past 12 years. I am continually inspired by the strong sense of community we share here in Lombard. With nearly 45,000 residents, our Village has grown and evolved, yet we have maintained the welcoming, smalltown feel that makes Lombard so special. As I prepare to step away from this role in May, I want to take a moment to reflect on the progress we have made together and the exciting future ahead.
Lombard offers the perfect blend of modern amenities, beautiful parks and recreational opportunities, excellent schools, top-notch public facilities and a prime location with convenient access to public transportation. Our Village is also home to a thriving business community, with a variety of shopping, dining and service options throughout. From the many storefronts at Yorktown Shopping Center, our growing downtown and the Roosevelt Road and North Avenue corridors, Lombard truly has it all.
Over the years, we have seen exciting growth that has strengthened our community and enhanced our quality of life. Some highlights include the addition of new grocery and retail options along the Roosevelt Road corridor, making everyday shopping more convenient for residents. Yorktown Center has also seen a major transformation, with new homes and businesses transforming it into a vibrant hub for shopping, dining and living. Our downtown has also grown, welcoming new businesses and restaurants making it an even more inviting destination. These projects, along with many infrastructure
improvements, reflect our commitment to strategic growth and a bright future.
As I step away from this role, I am proud to welcome Anthony Puccio as the next Village President. Having served as a Lombard Trustee for the past five years, he brings valuable experience, dedication and a strong commitment to continuing our community’s progress. I have no doubt that he will continue working hard to serve our residents and businesses, and I look forward to seeing all that will be accomplished in the years ahead.

THE LILAC VILLAGE Lombard is famed for its lilacs. Lilacia Park in Lombard is worldrenowned horticultural showcase that features over 700 lilacs and 25,000 tulips annually. Lilacia Park is most recognized for being home to Lombard’s Lilac Time, a blooming festival happening during the first two weeks of May.

DOWNTOWN LOMBARD
Downtown Lombard is a place where history and modern life blend seamlessly. While businesses have come and gone and names have changed, much of the village’s original design remains intact.
“Much of downtown Lombard’s footprint remains unchanged since the 1920s,” said Alison Costanzo, executive director of the Lombard Historical Society.
Once crisscrossed by three train lines, there was a time when Lombard was considered “country living,” just a 25-minute ride from Chicago—an ideal place to settle. Early landmarks such as the original downtown hotel, built in 1858, and the bank building from 1910 can still be seen today.
“There’s a balance between honoring the past and keeping downtown vibrant,” Costanzo explained. “Change is inevitable, but the fact that so many buildings retain their historic feel is everything to Lombard.”
The Lombard Historical Society plays a key role in preserving the village’s history,
offering lectures, interactive programs, and exhibits at the Carriage House, the Victorian Cottage Museum, and the Sheldon Peck Homestead. It also leads history-focused walking tours of Lilacia Park (May) and of downtown. In the summer the Lombard Historical Society hosts the Maple Street Music Series, a free summer concert series. Visitors and residents alike can also explore the gift shop at the Lombard Historical Society, where they can find unique Lombard and lilac-themed items.
In 2024, downtown Lombard underwent a significant transformation aimed at enhancing its pedestrian-friendly charm and preserving its historic essence. The South Park Avenue revitalization project expanded sidewalks, upgraded catenary and roadway lighting, improved drainage and introduced new trees and planters, creating a more inviting and functional public space. One of the standout features of the project is the welcoming gateway arch at the north end of South Park Avenue, which beautifully marks the entrance to Lombard’s vibrant downtown. This arch not only serves as a stunning visual landmark but also reinforces the connection between the area’s rich history and its modern revitalization. With occasional road closures for special events, the downtown has become even more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
“Downtown Lombard has a charm that blends history with modern life,” Costanzo said. “It’s a place where you can appreciate the past while enjoying everything the present has to offer.”
This balance of history and modern vibrancy comes alive through the many events that define Lombard’s community spirit. Throughout the year, the Lombard Chamber of Commerce and the Village of Lombard hosts a variety of lively events in the downtown that celebrate both local culture and the town’s deep roots.
The Lilac Time Art and Craft Fair, one of the premier events in Lombard, draws thousands of visitors each year. It features a wide variety of handmade crafts, art and artisan goods, offering something for everyone while supporting local artists and businesses. The fair is a time for the community to come together and enjoy the creativity of local and regional artisans, all while exploring the historic streets of downtown Lombard.
Another favorite is Summer Cruise Nights, where classic cars line the streets of downtown Lombard, offering visitors a chance to see vintage vehicles and experience the nostalgia of car culture. The event creates a lively atmosphere with music, food, and a chance to connect with
fellow enthusiasts and the community.
The Farmers Market also plays a pivotal role in bringing people together each summer. Local farmers, bakers, and artisans offer fresh produce, handmade goods, and specialty items that reflect the local flavor of Lombard. Whether you’re stocking up on seasonal produce or enjoying a leisurely stroll through the
market, it’s the perfect way to experience the heart of Lombard’s vibrant community.
In addition to these iconic events, the Lombard Historical Society remains an active participant in all downtown happenings. From organizing local events like the Maple Street Music Series to participating in community celebrations like the Spooktacular and Jingle Bell Jubilee, society plays a key role in maintaining the sense of connection that makes downtown Lombard a place where both history and modern life thrive.

CAMPAIGN FOCUSES ON DRAWING PEOPLE DOWNTOWN
It’s an exciting time to be in downtown Lombard as the community is revitalizing its business district with restaurants, retail, and community-wide events that draw visitors near and far.
“The whole area has gotten really busy,” said Rick Galfano, president and CEO of the Lombard Chamber of Commerce. “It is constantly evolving.”
To better promote the area, the Lombard Chamber has created a committee and campaign called Look At Lombard Committee members are tasked with advertising downtown tourism, events, and business.
Galfano said it’s been exciting to watch the reinvestment in the downtown, with new businesses joining longtime
businesses, creating a coveted destination in the community.
“We moved the farmer’s market downtown, and there are events including the Lilac Time Arts & Craft Fair in May, Spooktacular, and of course the Christmas events. We’re getting people downtown, and the merchants are loving it,” Galfano said. “We’ve added new events too, such as Lombard Outdoor Vintage Day that takes place at the end of June.”
Events like the weekly Farmers Market on Tuesday evenings, May through October, draw visitors to the downtown for shopping. There’s easy access to the market for commuters via train, locals riding their bikes, and visitors who can stop in after work. Many will stay to enjoy live music and dine in the area.
Another popular event in the summer is the village’s Cruise Nights, bringing in crowds on Saturday evenings to enjoy music and the cars.
“It’s a hub of activity,” Galfano said.
Some of the catalysts to the downtown revitalization are the restaurants that are drawing people near and far, including Babcock’s Grove House, Ground Level 105, and Rebel.
The Look At Lombard committee has worked on marketing materials, including adding the final elements to a downtown map in both print and digital forms, to highlight local businesses. Marketing materials like this will help the growing number of visitors coming to Lombard from outside the immediate area to navigate our historic downtown.
ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT CONTINUES TO GROW
Redevelopment at Yorktown Center continues to progress in a project that will further enhance the location’s dining, shopping and entertainment options.
The fun is in full force in Lombard with the recent additions of Dave & Buster’s to the Yorktown Shopping Center and Game Show Battle Rooms on Highland Avenue. Dave & Buster’s features arcades, games and dining. Game Show Battle Rooms lets contestants spin, roll, solve puzzles and use strategies to play in favorite games.
These new additions join the AMC Dine-In Theater with 18 screens.
The dining options at Yorktown Center continue to bring new, delicious options to the community. The restaurant Ancho Agave brings favorite Mexican dishes along with creative new dishes in the monthly specials. Along with favorite margaritas there are crafted cocktails and sangria too.
Empire Burger + Brew chose Lombard for its second location of the restaurant that features mouth-watering burgers. There are clever, savory sharable dishes from poutine
fries to empire tots and seasoned chips. Find lighter fare with a choice of salads and always save room for a dessert too.
The multi-year redevelopment at Yorktown Center continues to unfold with the demolition of the former Carson Pierie Scott. There will be a new outdoor green space will provide an inviting space for people to gather including a children’s play area and space for outdoor entertainment. The development incorporates multi-family residences adjacent to the center.

Lombard Junior Women’s Club is part of the Illinois General Federation of Women’s Clubs organization. Its members are diverse and multi-faceted women with a common commitment of community service. The group participates in a number of service projects including the TLC Camp for children with cancer, the Lilac Princess program and charitable organizations in Lombard. POISED FOR SUCCESS
Poised for Success provides interview and business appropriate clothing to women who need assistance in the job market, including veterans transitioning to civilian workforce, domestic violence survivors and single parents. Through generous donations its volunteers assist clients, who are referred by social service agencies and seen by appointment, with items to wear, as well as the opportunity to work on interview skills. ROTARY CLUB
Rotary Club of Lombard sponsors college scholarships for high school seniors, distributes food and money, contributes to a variety of local nonprofit organizations, as well as supports the efforts of Rotary International, which include eradication of polio, provision of clean water in developing countries and support of literacy. SERVICE LEAGUE
Lombard Service League is an affiliate of the International General Federation of Women’s Clubs. The club serves the community through various service projects and fundraisers. The club sponsors Lombard’s annual Woman of the Year contest in addition to a variety of other events. The club meets at 7 p.m. every second Thursday of the month. THE OUTREACH HOUSE
Low wages, unpredictable work hours, rising food costs and the high cost of housing in DuPage County all contribute to families having to choose between buying food, clothing, diapers and hygiene products, and paying essential bills for utilities, transportation and medical expenses. Insecurities related to these life essentials undermine working families’ dignity, independence and wellbeing. The Outreach House provides compassionate and effective assistance to individuals and families with dignity and without judgment.

The VFW Lilac Post 5815 and its Auxiliary usually meet from 7-9 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the Comfort Suites Conference Area, 530 W. North Ave. (Route 64 and Route 53), Lombard. PARK DISTRICT
Climbing at a playground or strolling under a canopy of trees, there’s plenty to enjoy with the Lombard Park District with each season.
In Spring 2025 the Lombard Park District will unveil renovations to Southland Park at Grace Street and Central Avenue. The park features now include a new play environment, pickleball and bocce ball courts as well as improvements to the soccer and baseball fields and accessible pathways and walking trail. The park improvements were made with financial support from an Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development grant.
The Lombard Park District teamed with the Village of Lombard on a new park at 641 N. Main St., with plans to include pickleball courts when the park opens in 2025.
The gym at the Madison Meadow Athletic Center in Lombard is a great place for basketball, volleyball and pickleball too. The state-of-the-art 38,000 square-foot facility provides members to access to an indoor track, cardio equipment, personal training and group fitness classes.
Summer is full of fun at Paradise Bay Water Park and this year a wonderful
partnership with the park district and the Helen Plum Library will include a weekly story time for tots. Encourage summer reading fun and enjoy time at the pool with the Stay & Swim Series during parent-tot swim time each week.
The Lombard Golf Course is a 9-hole, par 35 course with gently sloping greens, sand bunkers and water hazards. Work on the short game with a mid-day special of $12 for 9 holes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The course welcomes young players with classes including the popular Sticks for Kids that teaches ages 6 to 15 how to play golf and a youth ages 14 and younger can golf free when accompanied by an adult.
As summer turns to fall the Lombard Park District will welcome its youngest learners with its preschool classes. The park district has programs for all ages, featuring dance, crafts, music and sports.
In each season the Lombard Park District hosts wonderful community events from the Mutt Strut in the spring to the summer concerts and fishing derby in the summer and fall fest and Halloween fun and of course the holiday time with Jingle Bell Jubilee and holiday lights in Lilacia Park.

The Advocate Health includes Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove as well as its Advocate Medical Group practices for primary and specialty care, from the Advocate Heart Institute to the Advocate Group Sports Medicine office. Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital is the only Level 1 Trauma Center in DuPage County.
