OBITUARIES EDWARD CALVERT JR.

Edward was born Aug. 28, 1951, in Schlater, Mississippi, to Mattie and Edward Calvert Sr. The family relocated to Chicago in 1956, where Edward attended Beacon House classes for students with special needs. The family then moved to Joliet in 1975, where he attended Corner Stone Services for several years. Edward captured the hearts of most people he met, and he will be greatly missed by all that knew him. Edward was preceded in death by his father, Edward Calvert Sr.; brother, Theoda Calvert Sr.; and a very special nephew, Ronald Calvert. Edward departed this life on Friday, July 8, 2016. Edward Calvert Jr. leaves to cherish his memories his mother, Mattie Caples; three sisters, Patricia Stovall, Mathries James and Michelle (Darryl) Prince; two brothers, Kenneth and Eric Calvert. He also leaves behind, loving aunts, uncles, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Linda L. Erickson (nee Hagan), age 66, passed away peacefully with family at her side on July 12, 2016 at her home in Elwood. Linda was born in Jolie on Jan. 13, 1950. She graduated from Loyola University Chicago with B.S. in nursing, received her master’s of science from Northern Illinois University, and completed coursework and exams for her Ph.D in educational leadership and policy studies at Loyola University Chicago. Linda worked for more than three decades at which time she held the following positions: A staff nurse at Silver Cross Hospital, an in-service educator at St. Joseph Medical Center, a faculty member at Leach College of Nursing. During this time of employment she was credentialed as a Certified Nurse Educator (C.N.E.) by the National League for Nursing as well as being a coordinator of the Allied Health Program at the University of St. Francis, Joliet. Linda loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, reading books and bird watching. Linda was married to the love of her life, Ronald O. Erickson, on March 24, 1973, to whom she was a devoted wife for 43 years. She was the beloved mother to Melissa (Matt) Swick, Daniel (Jennifer) Erickson and Steven (Nichole) Erickson; cherished grandmother “JaJa” of Caleb, Ella, Lexy (Chance), Gabrielle, Maya, Gwenivere, Grace and Mason; proud great-grandmother to Weston Bentley; loving sister to Louise (Joseph-deceased) Gersich; sister-in-law and treasured friend to Patty (Gerald-deceased) Barnes, Betty (William-deceased) Salefski and Joan (Henry) Colbert; aunt to numerous nieces and nephews; niece to Doris (Danny-deceased) Kramerich; and cherished sisterly friend to Connie Litwiller. Linda is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Leona Hagan; her siblings, Jay and Joyce; her sister-in-law, Bonnie; and two brothers-in-law, John Rambo and Robert Wichert. Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon on Monday, July 18, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 235 West North St. Manhattan, IL 60442. FRANK RICHARD CHELLINO Frank Richard Chellino, age 69, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 7, 2016, at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center with his family by his side. Born in Joliet and a longtime Channahon resident. Retired from Commonwealth Edison after 22 years of service. His greatest love in life was spending time with his family. Survived by his wife, Diane (nee Pellegrini) Chellino; children, Theresa Lynn (Bob) Smid, Frank Charles (Janet) Chellino, Veronica Emma (Jason) Butler, Richard Anthony Chellino, Elijah Martin Chellino and Rhonda Kathleen Chellino; grandchildren, Matthew, Jessica, Gregory, Kyle, Kayla, Corey, Justin, Alyssa, Cameron, Jordan, Stephanie and Lisa; great-grandchildren, Trinadee, Emily, Domenik, Gage, Skyler, Bennette, Lilly and Logan; mother, Constance Chellino; brother, Carmen (Bonnie) Chellino; sister, Sharon (Richard) Fahrner; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Preceded by his father, Frank Chellino; one niece, Kelly Stefanich; and two great-grandchildren, Justin and Ethan. KARL JAY KURTZ Karl Jay Kurtz, age 73, of New Lenox passed away on Monday July 11, 2016. He is survived by his loving family: wife, Marilyn Kurtz (nee Badovinac); son, Tom (Michele) Vana; former daughter-in-law, Meaghan (Mike) Cahill-Dziedzic; grandchildren, Amy (Mitchell Cunningham) Vana, Matthew (Julia Zingaila) Vana and Liam Cahill-Kurtz; brother, Fred “Bud” (Peggy) Kurtz; niece, Kim (Dan) Ginder; nephew, Kevin (Tina) Kurtz; great-nieces and nephews, Bryce and Brenna Ginder, Ethan, Brody and Kylee Kurtz; loving caregivers; and best buddy Godfred “Kofi” Yeboah; his wife, Jeanette; and children, Marilyn, Kurtz and Dean Yeboah. He was preceded in death by his son, Joey Kurtz; grandson, Jay Vana; and his parents, Fred and Dorothy (Crosson) Kurtz. Karl was founder and owner of Kurtz Memorial Chapels, Kurtz Ambulance Service and Goodale Memorial Chapel, proudly and compassionately serving the local area for 40 years. He was a graduate of Joliet Township High School, Worsham College of Mortuary Science and certified emergency medical technician – intermediate. He was a member of Ridgewood Baptist Church, Illinois State Ambulance Association, Illinois Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association, Will/Grundy EMS and Matteson Masonic Lodge 175; past member of East Joliet Fire Department. He was a former Will County Deputy Coroner and former New Lenox village trustee and patrolman for Knight Security, former member of New Lenox Chamber of Commerce and New Lenox Rotary Club. Karl was recipient of New Lenox Citizen of the Year in 2009, a local area volunteer and philanthropist supporting many civic and charitable organizations, and a diehard Cubs fan. While his achievements were many they were sadly cut short due to his advanced Parkinson’s disease. “Well done good and faithful servant” Family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. JOSE R. MARTINEZ Jose R. Martinez, age 74, at rest on Sunday, July 10, 2016, with his loving family by his side.
Jose is survived by his loving children, Hector (Gloria) Martinez, Ernesto (Lourdes) Martinez, Magdalena (Rodrigo) Zavala, Dolores (Miguel) Martinez, Luis (Rosalba) Martinez, Jose Manuel (Renelle) Martinez, Ofelia (Marcos) Cuevas, Teresa Martinez, Angelica (Raul Maldonado) Martinez and Jesus (Erica Villagomez) Martinez; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Fortunato (Victoria) Martinez, Juan (Eufracia) Martinez, Juana (Jesus) Martinez and Guadalupe Martinez; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Teresa Martinez (1981); parents, Natividad and Aurora Martinez; siblings, Raymundo, Inez and Artemia Martinez; two granddaughters, Jenny G. Martinez and Jessica L. Cisneros; and two nephews, Juan G. Martinez and Angel G. Martinez. Jose was born in San Isidro, Mexico. He was a longtime resident of Joliet and a Parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Joliet. Jose loved to be outdoors, gardening, tending to his flowers and having everyone come together for cookouts at his home. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and never made an enemy. Jose also enjoyed dressing up, being on time and keeping his vehicles clean and in great shape. Jose never complained; he had a big heart and was loved by all who knew him. A celebration of Jose’s life will begin on Friday, July 15, 2016, with prayers in the funeral home chapel at 9:15 a.m. then driving in procession to Our Lady of Mount Carmel (Jackson Street) in Joliet for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Joliet.
