ILLINOIS | TOP STORIES
STERLING – Employees of Dunham’s Sports at Northland Mall have received word that their jobs will be terminated, effective today. The employees received a letter Saturday from the company’s human relations department. In the brief correspondence, workers were told the personnel decision was made because the rebuild of the store was taking much longer than expected. Between 15 and 18 people, fulland part-timers, worked at the store. Some seasonal hiring was done at the store. In the letter, the workers were told they could reapply with Dunham’s when plans to open the store are finalized. The store was severely damaged in a storm that hit the area June 22, only 8 months after it opened at the mall. The exterior of the store is nearly complete, leaving plumbing, electrical, and other interior work to be finished. Dunham’s employees have received paychecks since the store was closed for repairs.
