TheIllinoisStateBoardofEducation saidinanewsreleaselastweekthatthe EducationCareerPathwayhas10,805 studentsintheprogram,whichispart ofabroaderefforttoaddressashortage ofteachers.
RegionalOfficeofEducation47for Lee,OgleandWhitesidecountiesstarted receivinggrantmoneyin2021soitcould partnerwithSauk ValleyCommunity CollegeindevelopingaPathwayinthis region.
Studentsin thePathwaygetahead startonteacherpreparationthrough hands-onlearning,dualcredit,credentialsandmentorship.Theprogramalso allowsdistrictstorecruitandprepare futureeducators,especiallyiftheyhave aneedtofillpositionsrequiringbilingualor specialeducationspecialties.

According to ISBE, thegrants could increase the diversity of the state teacher workforce. Ofthoseenrolledin the Pathway program,45% identify as Black or Hispanic, compared to 14% of thecurrentteachers.
ISBEsaid the Pathway program, coupled with other initiatives,has increased studentenrollment in collegiateeducation programsby 41% over the past four years.
ISBEsaid Illinoisschools reported 2,139 unfilled teachingpositionsin 2021. Manyof those unfilledpositions arein under-resourcedcommunities.
Ayala said the program provides the encouragement that some students need.
“I found my way into teaching after someone encouragedme and gave me a chance to experience the magic ofeducationfirsthand,” Ayala said. “Sometimes that’s all it takes to pique a student’s interest in this incredibly rewarding profession, and that’swhat theEducation CareerPathwayoffers.”
To date, ISBE has released$18 millionin EducationPathwaygrants. There are 171 high schools offering the program. The next round of grants will goout this calendaryear.

In1930,Dr. W. J.Mauritsopenedanofficeonthefirstfloorat219 EastMainStreet,withthehospitaloperatingonthesecondfloor. ThiswassosuccessfulthatonJune10,1942(afterdonationsand bondissues);theMorrisonCityHospitalwasopenedinthecurrent locationonNorthJacksonStreet,providing16bedsforpatients.
By1954,thehospitalhadexpandedto32bedsandbecame MorrisonCommunityHospital.In1972,thehospitalembarkedin a$3millionexpansion,increasingthebedcapacityto84beds. Currently,thereare25bedsinouracutecarefloor.
Today,MorrisonCommunityHospitalprovidesmedical,surgical, x-ray,andemergencyservices,aswellasseveraloutpatient services.TheFamilyCareClinicwasaddedin2006tomeetthe communitiesneedforwalk-inandgeneralclinicservices.Services providedintheFamilyCareClinicincludeCardiology,Dermatology, Gastroenterology,Surgery,Neurology,Podiatry,Pulmonology, RheumatologyandUrology.TheMCHFamilyCareClinichas morethan20,000visitsannually.Inaddition,thehospitaladded aspecialtyclinicthatincludesservicessuchasendocrinology, otolaryngologyandultrasounds.MorrisonCommunityHospital hasitsownlaboratory,radiologyandambulanceservice.Rehab servicessuchasphysical,occupational, respiratory,andspeech therapiesplussocialservicesareoffered.
Fornearlya century, FSBof Forresthasbeen committedtothepeople,businesses,and communitiesofCentralIllinois.Sincethose first daysin1914tothepresent,ourmottois andhasalwaysbeen“a strongfriend foryour family,” wordswe strivetoliveandwork by everyday.
