NETWORKING & SUPPORT OPPORTUNITIES
Networking, education and supporting the communities remain the top priorities for the Heritage Corridor Business Alliance, the Chamber of Commerce representing Lemont, Homer Glen and the surrounding communities
Creating opportunities for business connections and education is a top priority for Chamber Director Ed Kerfin.
“I want it to be a chamber for its members,” Kerfin said.
Kerfin and the chamber’s board of directors see a priority in creating more opportunities to support local businesses with networking events and informative programming
The chamber hosts monthly breakfasts each with an ample time for participating members to connect as well as a short program on a relevant topic The breakfasts are scheduled for the third Wednesday of the month, from 7:30 to 9 a m at Blueberry Hill in Homer Glen
While the breakfasts are early, Kerfin said each month brings together a nice crowd to enjoy the light fare, networking and making connections One of his goals, Kerfin said, is to find one or more sponsors to support the monthly breakfasts and lead

the educational programs, which have on topics such as how to dress for success and business coaching A recent program on incorporating Artificial Intelligence, AI in one’s business was a big draw, Kerfin said and the goal is to offer the topic again
The chamber also hosts a Young Professionals Program, encouraging business leaders age 40 and younger to meet and share ideas and mentor fellow members. Kerfin said the Young Professionals Program is a great way for those building their business to collaborate with fellow members, sharing best practices and marketing advice
The chamber also hosts seasonal programming, including an annual holiday event for its members
The Heritage Corridor Business Alliance is working in partnership with the local communities and supporting local organizations One area that rings close for Kerfin is the support for veterans in the community He and his wife, Michelle Kerfin of Michelle Kerfin State Farm, have established the Veteran Breakfasts The monthly breakfasts have drawn more than 100 local veterans, representing those who served in Korea, Vietnam and in the Middle East The aim of these programs is to provide time for veterans to spend time together, build relationships in the community, Ed Kerfin said.
The Veteran Breakfasts are 7 to 8 a m on the first Monday of the month at Blueberry Hill
MONTHLY BREAKFAST
BUSINESS BASH
The mission of the Heritage Corridor Business Alliance is to advocate, educate, build business relationships, and be a resource to enable its members and the communities we serve – Lemont, Homer Glen, and the surrounding areas – to prosper.
One of the key aspects in helping local businesses grow is through the Chamber’s successful “Business Bash” after hours networking events They are held quarterly throughout the year and hosted by a different Chamber member at their place of business It provides a win-win opportunity for both its hosts and guests
Growing a business is all about building relationships The Business Bash combines a perfect blend of networking with other business owners and their representatives in a casual, social atmosphere There’s nothing like having a one-on-one conversation and valuable informal introductions with a new colleague and prospective client
The Business Bash after hours are always well-attended giving attendees a chance to mix and mingle, exchange business cards,

and enjoy food and beverages provided by the host
The benefits for a Business Bash after hours host is giving them a golden opportunity to enable guests to learn about their business and, in some cases, even get a guided tour of what makes the business a success and makes it tick!
The Heritage Corridor area is vibrant and the Business Alliance brings it all together to promote the area through its valuable

resources, economic development information, and assistance for existing and new business

ABOUT LEMONT
Lemont was officially incorporated as a municipality on June 9, 1873 The village celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2023 in collaboration with businesses, schools, existing events, and more
Our history sets us apart from other communities with a downtown dating back to the building of the Illinois & Michigan Canal with stories of yesteryear that would intrigue even the novice history buff
As the Canal was being built, newly immigrated Irish, German, and Scandinavians, along with French and English laborers came looking to the area for a new life While digging the canal, dolomite limestone was discovered that led to the development of the stone quarries This became one of the chief building materials used in many landmark buildings, including the Chicago Water Tower, Holy Name Cathedral, and the Illinois Capitol Building in Springfield.
Now you can explore the Heritage Quarries Recreation Area, a 100acre nature park to hike, bike, picnic, bird watch, boat and fish with a 6-mile crushed stone marked trail Take a guided tour of the quarry area in the spring or fall with the Lemont Historical Society Call 630257-2972 for available dates and times
Our quaint downtown is on the National Register of Historic Places Take a guided tour with the Lemont Historical Society (call 630257-2972) and walk along the streets of the infamous Smokey Row strip, which was wilder than Dodge City back in the day Pick up a self-guided tour booklet and map at Smokey Row Antiques, 112 Stephen Street, and discover the many preserved historic sites, charming limestone buildings, murals, and public art displays
After your tour, experience the flavors and flair in our many oneof-akind restaurants ready for any palate Mingle with the locals at our mix of longtime taverns and pubs Shop in our distinctive boutiques and quaint shops nestled within late 19th century buildings And, if you’re up for it, head over to The Forge: Lemont Quarries for climbing and ziplining or grab a craft beer at Pollyanna Brewing Company Enjoy all we have to offer

WELCOME TO HOMER GLEN
As the busy summer months wind down, I find myself reflecting on all that we’ve accomplished together so far this year In the spring, new Trustees were elected and appointed to the Village Board, bringing four fresh faces to the table Their new ideas and enthusiasm are already energizing our committees and strengthening the way we conduct Village business
Our Events Department has been hard at work, delivering a full calendar of activities that drew thousands of residents and visitors to Heritage Park this spring and summer HomerFest 2025 was truly one for the record books— four days of perfect weather, exciting rides, delicious food, and outstanding performances from some of our area’s finest local bands. And the fun doesn’t stop there! This fall, Heritage Park will once again transform into Scare-itage Park which residents will be able to enjoy during our two big October events: Movie Under the Stars (Fall Edition) and Trunk or Treat
Of course, Homer Glen is more than just events and parks—we’re also proud to offer convenient shopping, dining, and services right here in town Business retention and occupancy remain at an
all-time high, and this fall, we’re excited to roll out a brand-new Dining Coupon Book featuring special offers from many of our local restaurants The book will be mailed to households and available at local businesses and Village Hall—making it easier than ever to support and enjoy our hometown restaurants
At the Village Board level, one of our highest priorities is listening to residents and ensuring our decisions reflect the values of our community A clear example of this is the ongoing debate over the Will County-led proposal to widen 143rd Street I, along with the Village Board and other local leaders, remain firmly opposed to this project. We continue to urge the County to redirect those funds toward road improvements in other areas where widening is truly needed—without disrupting the character and quality of life that make Homer Glen so special
And while we’re proud of all we’ve achieved in 2025, our sights are already set on the future In 2026, the Village of Homer Glen will celebrate 25 years of incorporation—a milestone we plan to honor with events, promotions, and community-wide celebrations throughout the spring Stay tuned, because we can’t wait to share what we have in store!
