erfectly situated just 16 miles west of downtown Chicago, Elmhurst embodies the real estate mantra of “locaon, locaon, locaon.”
Serving as the eastern doorway in DuPage County, Elmhurst stands at the crossroads of Interstate Highway 290 and Illinois Toll Roads 294 and 88, with quick access to Toll Roads 355 and 190 to the west and north, respecvely, and Interstate 55 to the south. York Street (commonly called York Road), the city’s main thoroughfare, runs through the heart of Elmhurst north from Roosevelt Road (Route 38) and south to Grand Avenue. Route 83 (Kingery Highway) and North Avenue (Route 64) intersect near Elmhurst’s northwest border, providing north-south and east-west passages, respecvely.
¢ PLAINS, TRAIN AND BUSES
The Regional Transportaon Authority (RTA) provides public bus and rapid transit service throughout Chicagoland by way of the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), Metra commuter rail system and Pace suburban bus. Metra’s Union Pacific West line in Elmhurst is No. 1 in shuttling commuters and passengers to and from Chicago and Elburn and points in between. Scheduled around-theclock, trains depart from Elmhurst’s downtown staon. Pace operates daily bus routes from the downtown Metra staon to northwest Elmhurst (Route 642), North Business Park (Route 645) and Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare’s south Elmhurst campus (Route 332). Dial-a-ride services, vanpools and special-event buses also are available through Pace. A trio of airports—O’Hare Internaonal (15 minutes north), Midway Internaonal Airport (30 minutes southeast) and DuPage County Airport (30 minutes west)—service businesses and pleasure travelers.

AT&T provides telephone service based on a 30-day billing period and also is an internet service provider. Comcast provides cable television service based on a 30day billing period and also is an internet service provider. ComEd’s electrical service is based on a 30-day billing period. New customers may be charged a deposit. Elmhurst residents and businesses can parcipate in the city’s electrical aggregaon program with a third-party supplier, but ComEd’s grid sll provides the electrical power. Nicor Gas is the ulity serving the northern third of Illinois.
