EDUCATION &

Acommunity’s educaonal system is the bedrock of family life. In Elmhurst, a unique mix of public, private and parochial schools, plus specialty educaon centers, provide learning opportunies spanning from preschool through college. Forthe past 30 years the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry and its members have treated new teachers to Elmhurst at a welcoming luncheon in August.

¢ WHAT COLLEGE OUGHT TO BE Celebrang its Sesquicentennial (150th Anniversary) in the 2021-22 school year, Elmhurst University blends liberal learning and professional preparaon to educate students for life in a global society. Elmhurst accomplishes its mission by providing a range of high-quality academic offerings—70 majors and 15 pre-professional programs of study in 25 undergraduate departments, and 20 master’s degree programs in four fields and eight graduate cerficate programs, plus 44 places to study abroad—to nearly 3,400 undergraduate and graduate students. The University is recognized for the excellence of its programs and faculty. A faculty member, not a teaching assistant, teaches every class, and more than 80% of the 160 full-me faculty hold the highest degree in their academic field. The average class has 17 students with a student to faculty rao of 14-to-1. Elmhurst consistently ranks as one of the Midwest’s best values in higher educaon, according to U.S. News & World Report, and Money and Forbes magazines.

¢ EDUCATING THE PUBLIC Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205 was formed in 1974 to provide a unified school program for students in prekindergarten through grade 12. The District’s 14 schools—eight elementary schools (K-5), three middle schools (6-8), York Community High School (9-12), early childhood center/preschool and transion program—currently services more than 8,000 students who reside primarily in Elmhurst (93%), plus small porons of Oak Brook, Bensenville and Addison. District 205 faculty and staff are among the finest and best qualified in the State of Illinois, with 73.6% holding a Master’s degree or higher. District 205 students consistently perform well above state averages on all standardized tests; the ACT average composite score is 24.3 (2016). More than 80% of York’s students parcipate in at least one extracurricular acvity.

¢ FAITH-BASED LEARNING Families desiring a faith-based learning atmosphere for their children have choices from preschool through high school.
