The estimated property damage was $7.9 million, an estimated $2.8 million of which were uninsured losses. The torndao also took the lives of two women who had been neighbors and friends: Jackie Klosa, 69, and Geraldine Schultz, 67. In the aftermath, a special organization called the DeKalb County Long Term Recovery Corp. was formed to assist residents in navigating the permitting process and tring to put their homes and their lives back together. County officials agreed to make zoning changes and other adjustments to fast-track the rebuilding process. Many charity organizations volunteered time, money and materials to help, first with the cleanup and the immediate needs of displaced residents, and later with donated time, materials and funds to help with the rebuilding. In September, five months after the tornado, the Kishwaukee Sunrise Rotary Club and Rotary International donated a tornado siren to the town. A few days later, the first home to be rebuilt in Fairdale arrived. It belonged to Irene Clay, an 87-year-old widow who had lived in Fairdale since 1955. Clay succumbed to lung cancer the
