Local Hy-Vee customers can now purchase groceries without leaving the house, thanks to an online grocery ordering system introduced late last year. Called “Hy-Vee Aisles Online,” the new service allows customers to view a local store’s inventory online, create an online shopping list and have groceries delivered or prepared for store pickup. Hy-Vee has touted that the new service allows customers to “shop the way they want to shop from anywhere and at any time.” The program began in certain Des Moines metro Hy-Vee stores in April and gradually spread to other stores during the summer. This fall, the West Des Moines-based

grocery store chain began offering the service in all 240 Hy-Vee stores across its eight-state region. Creston’s Hy-Vee adopted the service in mid-October, a n d Chuck Irelan, Creston Hy-Vee store di- Irelan rector, said employees currently complete between 15 and 20 orders per week. “It’s everywhere from moms and working mothers that don’t have a lot of time to some elderly peo-

ple who don’t want to get out, to some people who just don’t like to grocery shop,” Irelan said. “It’s a wide range.” To order groceries, customers visit the Aisles Online website, hy-veeaislesonline.com, then create a “My Hy-Vee” account and select their local HyVee store. There, they can view the store’s current inventory and weekly specials, load their online “carts” and pay electronically through electronic funds transfer or by credit card. Online customers can still receive benefits of in-store shopping, such as advertised deals, coupons
