Kuchler’s team at The Promenade Bolingbrook along with the Bolingbrook Area Chamber helps the many volunteers who coordinate the annual event that brings in crowds for the food, entertainment and chance to meet up with friends.
The Taste of Bolingbrook is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The day’s live entertainment begins at 12 p.m. with School of Rock from Naperville, followed by The Sumthins at 2:30 p.m., Wild Daisy takes the stage at 4:30 p.m. and the feature performance of Hey Jimmy starts at 7 p.m.
Bring along chairs and a blanket to sit back and enjoy the live music. The stage is located near the beer garden.
“We are excited to be bringing back many of our favorite food vendors, along with a partnership with Alpha Media, who will be broadcasting live at the Taste again this year,” said Melissa Boltz, Executive Director of the Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce.
Local nonprofits will host a Kids Zone, featuring interactive entertainment including arts and crafts and games. Kuchler said the Kids Zone is fun for the young ones, while providing a great way for the community to get to know more about some of the incredible agencies in the community.
“It’s such a great way to highlight local non-profits,” Kuchler said.
The Taste of Bolingbrook includes craft vendors with hand-made items as well as featuring local chamber business members.
For many guests it’s the food that draws in the crowds, Kuchler said. The Bolingbrook Chamber staff will be assembling a line up of restaurants local to the community to feature delicious entrees and bites for guests to purchase.
Admission to the Taste of Bolingbrook is free, for vendor and crafter information visit Bolingbrookchamber.org.

YOUNG EAGLES AT CLOW INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
By Melissa Rubalcaba RiskeAll it took was one flight and he was hooked, explained Arzania “Zook” Williams.
The Bolingbrook resident said he became a pilot, inspired by an experience he had as a young adult and today, he shares his plane and flight times with the Young Eagles program, providing free discovery flights to youth ages 8 to 17.
“My uncle was in the Air Force and he gave me my first ride as a teenager and I got the bug. I want to pass that bug along,” Williams said.
For more than 30 years pilots with the Experimental Aircraft Association have shared their love of flying with young people, hoping to feed their interest in aviation and inspire future careers as pilots, mechanics. The members of the EAA Chapter 461 at Clow International Airport in Bolingbrook offer discovery flights the second Saturday of the month, April through October. Registration opens the Wednesday prior and typically fills shortly in the limited slots, said Larry Greenwich, president of the Illinois Aviation Museum, housed at Clow.
Williams started sharing flights in 2005, back when he had to rent a plane. In 2008 he purchased his own plane and as of earlier this spring, he has provided flights to 461 Young Eagles.
“It’s typically a 15-minute ride,” Williams said. “With the older kids, I’ll let them take the control when we’re up in the air for a basic maneuver.”
He knows of several young adults who took their first flight in his plane who

The local EAA chapter hosts Young Eagles rallies for children ages 8 to 17 years from 9 a.m. to noon the second Saturday of each month, April through October (weather permitting).
Registration opens at 8 p.m. the Wednesday prior to the event. To register, visit www.eaa461.org/youthprograms/young-eagles.

are in aviation careers or in pursuit of a career in the field and said that, plus their smiles, makes it worth sharing his plane, time and fuel for the program.
“That makes the donation of my time and experience worthwhile,” Williams said. “The smile on the kids faces is a pretty good reward.”
While the flight may be a highlight for the young adults, there is much more to the morning than the ride. The program includes explaining the science of flight and talking about planes as well.
In collaboration with the flights, volunteers open the Illinois Aviation Museum from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, inviting visitors to explore and learn about some of the incredible pieces in the museum’s
collection, as well as planes, equipment and interactive exhibits.
Greenwich said he became a pilot in his 40s, taking classes at the aviation school at Clow. The Bolingbrook resident enjoys sharing his love of flying, but it’s more than a passion. The industry is experiencing a shortage of young adults with careers in aviation and he hopes to spark interest with young adults visiting the museum, experiencing their first flight.
In support of two young adults seeking careers in aviation, JW Aviation will award two scholarships of $10,000 each to a pair of students seeking a career in aviation. The monetary award would support a student at the JW Aviation School in their first step to becoming a professional pilot, Greenwich said.

By Melissa Rubalcaba RiskeLive music, festivals featuring delicious foods and a celebration of community are on the calendar this summer in Bolingbrook.
“Summer is a great time to explore the community and enjoy time together with friends,” said Melissa Boltz, Executive Director for the Bolingbrook Chamber of Commerce.

To showcase a variety of Promenade dining options, the concert location will move around the center, with different restaurants set up outside, ready to serve guests.
Event attendees can support local restaurants by making food and
beverage purchases from eateries at the event. Attendees are not allowed to bring outside alcohol to the event; however participating restaurants at the center will have alcoholic beverages available for purchase.
