Christmas in the Valley Annual event will be a jolly good time By Goldie Currie gcurrie@bcrnews.com

SPRING VALLEY — Halloween is behind us, which means the holiday season is just around the corner. Spring Valley is gearing up to bring in the spirit with its annual Christmas in the Valley event, which takes places Saturday. The streets will be alive with activity from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with holiday music, games and refreshments, trolley rides and gift specials. Spring Valley Economic Development Director Debb Ladgenski encourages families from all around the area to take part in the jolly event, which has been happening for more than 10 years. “We want people to come and visit our shops to see the wide range of products and services we have available, not only for the holidays, but all year,” she said. “The entire community rallies together to make this a family event as a means of sharing the holiday spirit.” This year’s event will feature the favorite traditions such as pony rides, a petting zoo, children’s crafts and games, raffles, a vendor’s show to benefit the food pantry, a silent tree auction to benefit Freedom House and shopping specials. “I think the highlight of the event varies (for each) individual, but the overall effect of kicking off the holiday season with the spirit of giving to others is important,” Ladgenski said. The trolley will be making stops at the downtown mini-park, library/city hall, St. Margaret’s Hospital Gift Shop, Valley Flowers and Gifts, and Spring Valley Ford. Children are invited to take part in children’s crafts at the Richard A. Mautino Memorial Library until 1 p.m. Face painting will be at the ImagineU Studio, located across from the library.
