Design statement.
Layering is the rule of my pattern. I applied layers to three dimensions and found its roles in different dimensions, including providing shadows, gradually increasing the privacy of the space, and turning the open space into a semi-open space. The concept of my pattern performance on-site is visibility. Factors that affect the visibility of a pattern are light and rainwater. I explore the potential of material corrosion inhibitors to render surface patterns on the ground which refers to the way Dew point uses materials to create temporary patterns. The visibility of the pattern on the wall is controlled by light. When there are better lighting conditions, the shadow produced by the shelter is cast on the wall, adding one more layer to the pattern. Some 2D patterns on the ground are extruded into 3D patterns. The height of the columns corresponds to the sound waves of several keywords related to Chinatown. It’s the result of last week's question that discussed patterns themselves as sounds. These four layers of acoustic columns divide the site into sections and increase privacy levels.

Feedbacks & Reflection
Layering and permeability seem to be the dominant idea and have a lot of potential for moving forward. What conditions might allow me to work with the patterns more extensively. If it is about porosity in my design, what goes in and what goes out.? If it is about light, there is an opportunity to test out the formation of the pattern a little bit differently, according to the dynamics of the forces. The pattern at the moment doesn’t really change. -what happens if it transforms? Can I work with the three layers of permeability in a more innovative and spatial way. I have the roof, and the ground, but what about the third layer- (not the flower pot objects which seem to interrupt the space.)

In conclusion, the connection between the layers was not clear. Each layer is independent and disconnected, and the permeability cannot clearly show. And, I realized that the full shade was inappropriate for the site with a small amount of sunlight. Therefore, the above experience has clarified my development goal in Part 3. Firstly, I will think about the logical relationship and permeability between the layers and make space a whole. Secondly, the passive cover will abandon to make the site design more in line with the context.

Design statement.
At the beginning of the design, I developed a face mask pattern based on my understanding of pandemic diseases. The face mask is usually made up of layers of fabric to filter the air entering the mouth and nose to prevent harmful gases, odours and droplets. By understanding the nature of the mask, the design of the face mask pattern emphasizes layering and permeability. The final design serves as a small informal commercial space and a stage for street performers. The structure consists of three levels, including flower-shaped wooden panels at the top level, a temporary pattern at the bottom level and a bamboo structure that connects the two layers in the middle. As a landscape filter, the design has the same function as face masks. The range of light, rain and human movement in this filter is different: Half of the light reaches the ground floor through the gaps in the above layer, which means the design filters half of the sunlight. In addition, rainwater is flowing, so all the rainwater eventually passes through the upper two layers of the structure to reach the ground. The moisture-proof agent is applied precisely to the concrete surface. The pattern is visible only when the ground is wet. Viewed from above, people can only move, walk or sit on the floor of the wooden panels. For safety reasons, the design does not allow people to fall through the gaps between the planks. So, people's mobility is limited to the first floor (not consider people on the ground).
