H

aving a healthy heart is key to living a long and fulfilling life. Luckily, there is a lot you can do to lower your risk of developing heart disease, while improving your overall health and well-being. Below are four tips that are sure to keep your cardiovascular health in check:

Choose heart-healthy foods to lower blood pressure and cholesterol. Incorporating more fruits and vegetables into your diet, while limiting foods with saturated fats and added sugar will help keep these levels down. Try seeking out recipes that specifically highlight heart-healthy ingredients.

Manage stress by incorporating healthy activities into your daily routine. Things like getting at least eight hours of sleep, meditating or relaxing, talking to a counselor, and more will significantly reduce the feeling of stress.

Move your body as much as you can. Getting at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day will decrease the risk of developing heart disease and manage high blood pressure.

Check your blood pressure and cholesterol regularly. It is important to check in with a doctor to make sure that these levels are normal.

Being proactive and seeking medical guidance is your best line of defense when it comes to cardiovascular risk factors.

DIY CORNER Heart-Shaped Bath Bombs Who says Valentine’s Day can’t be about treating yourself too? These DIY bath bombs are perfect for self-care, and they smell amazing! Take some time to show yourself some love this month.

Combine baking soda, cornstarch, citric acid, and Epsom salts in a bowl. Whisk to remove any clumps.

2.

In a separate bowl, mix water, essential oil, coconut oil, and food coloring.

3.

Slowly pour the liquid mixture into the dry mixture, whisking as you go.

4.

Once combined, take a small amount in your hand, and squeeze together. If the mixture is still powdery, gradually add water until it holds together. Fill a heart-shaped mold with mixture, or shape into a heart with your hands.

5.

Allow to dry for 10-15 minutes. If using a mold, remove the mixture and allow to dry for 8 hours. Once dry, wrap in plastic or store in a dry place until ready to use.
