FALL 2025
Welcome to the Swim Dakotah! program. Our swim program is intended to build confidence and safety in the water. Each level builds upon the natural progression of swimming, which helps the participant develop efficient, technically based skills while having fun in the water. These skills can be used for either recreational swimming or lifelong fitness.
BABY AND ME
Ages: 6-18 months • 30-minute class
Ratio 10:1
$80/Member • $120 Nonmember Swim instruction with parent/adult and child. Baby will learn to be comfortable in the water as they begin their swimming journey. This class is a perfect way to start learning basic swim and safety skills.
Skills Taught: Water adaptation, bubbles, begin putting face in the water, assisted front crawl, assisted front and back floats, zoom under water, assisted roll, safe exit and entry.
LITTLE LEVEL 1: BUBBLES
Ages: 3-7 • 30-minute class • Ratio 3:1

This is a great starting point for younger kids, who are new or afraid of the water! In this class, a swimmer will practice water adaptation, work toward going underwater, and build up to learning to float. Our goal is to get the swimmer more comfortable and safer in the water!
Skills Taught: Water adaptation, selfsubmerge, assisted front float-face in water (10 seconds), assisted back float (15 seconds), glide (three feet), blow bubbles with controlled breathing.
LITTLE LEVEL 3: KICKS
Ages 3-7 • 30-minute class • Ratio 3:1

The primary focus of this level is to strengthen a younger swimmer’s kick. The swimmer will learn flutter kick on their front and back, as well as elementary backstroke kick. With these kicking skills, we will begin to learn to tread water.
Skills Taught: Retrieve an object from four feet of water, streamline/glide (10 feet), flutter kick on front (20 feet), flutter kick on back (20 feet), elementary backstroke kick, independent roll from front to back, independent swim (20 feet).
Please note: There will not be classes the week of October 13-18.
Swim Dakotah! instructors have been trained both in and out of the pool, and continue to improve on their skills to keep our swim program consistent. Smaller class sizes allow more oneon-one instructor time, as well as more time to practice skill development. TO

$80/Member • $120 Nonmember Parent-Tot classes are a great way to continue to get a swimmer comfortable in the water. They will learn necessary swim and safety skills in the water. To “graduate” this level, a swimmer must be three years old, after that they can move to a level 1 or 2.
Skills Taught: Water adaptation, blow bubbles, submerge face, assisted front and back floats, zooms/glide under water, assisted roll, independent front crawl with barbell, safe exit and entry.

Swimmers are building up to swim independently, without the assistance of equipment or an instructor. Your child will learn to float and roll over to catch a breath.

Level 4 will give a swimmer a solid foundation to start working on technique. We learn freestyle, backstroke, and elementary backstroke. Introduce rhythmic breathing and continue treading water.
Skills Taught: Streamline (15 feet), freestyle arms and kicks (30 feet), rhythmic breathing (flip every three arms), backstroke arms and kick (30 feet), elementary backstroke (30 feet)

This is the level to master freestyle and backstroke with proper breathing, rotation, and technique. We will introduce the kicks for breaststroke and butterfly to prepare for the next level.
Skills Taught: Freestyle with side breath and rhythmic breathing (25 yards), backstroke with shoulder rotation (25 yards), elementary backstroke (25 yards), breaststroke kick (15 yards), dolphin kick (15 yards).

After mastering freestyle and backstroke, we move on to the “hard strokes.” In this level, the swimmer will work on butterfly and breaststroke while building endurance. They will be introduced to diving as well.
Skills Taught: Butterfly: full stroke with correct timing (15 yards), breaststroke: full stroke with correct timing (15 yards), freestyle (50 yards), backstroke (50 yards), seated dive.

During this level we are building on skills to help begin a competitive swimming career. They focus on turns and building endurance to prepare for junior swim team.
Skills to be Tested: Endurance, flip turns and correct stroke transitions, butterfly and breaststroke (25 yards), freestyle and backstroke (100 yards), kneeling dive.

LEVEL 8: JUNIOR SWIM TEAM

This level is for children who are looking to move up to swim competitively. Or anyone who is looking for stroke improvement while building endurance. This level is ran similar to a swim team practice.
Skills to be Tested: Endurance, 100-yard IM with correct turns, technical stroke work, turn (flip turns and proper transitions), standing dive and competition start, swim team preparation.

ADULT: LEARN TO SWIM

This level is intended for adults who are unable to swim and want to develop basic swim skills for safety and recreation. These lessons are geared toward their individual needs with the goal of getting them to be more comfortable in the water.
Skills Taught: Catered toward individual goals, confidence in the water, independence in the water, front float, back float, kicks, breath control, front crawl.
