DIY CORNER Natural Homemade Bug Spray Ingredients

•• 30 drops geranium essential oil •• 30 drops citronella essential oil •• 20 drops lemon eucalyptus essential oil •• 20 drops lavender essential oil •• 10 drops rosemary essential oil •• 1 tablespoon rubbing alcohol •• ½ cup natural witch hazel •• ½ cup water (or vinegar) •• 1 tablespoon vegetable glycerin (optional)

Instructions

1. Place essential oils in a glass spray bottle. Add rubbing alcohol and shake well to combine.

2. Pour in witch hazel and shake to combine.

3. Add ½ tablespoon vegetable glycerin if using. This is not necessary but helps everything stay combined.

4. Add water and shake again. Shake before each use as the oils and water will naturally separate over time.

Essential oils are nature’s bug repellents. What a better way to deter bug bites by using the gifts nature has to offer rather than spraying on potentially harmful chemicals. Plants produce essential oils to repel bugs from eating their leaves and flowers. Their biological chemistry contains compounds like terpenes, aldehydes, and alcohols which are naturally produced by the plant’s immune system to repel bugs and combat disease. Plants with a higher percentage of these compounds, like Eucalyptus Citriodora and Rose Geranium, make a pleasant smelling deterrent to mosquitos, ticks, and flies. RECIPE

CHUNKY STRAWBERRY GUACAMOLE Ingredients • 2 ripe medium-large avocados (or 3 small avocados), halved, pitted, scooped

•

4 ounces ripe strawberries, diced, plus a little extra for garnish

•

2 tablespoons of fresh squeezed lemon juice

•

•

3 tablespoons fresh cilantro, loosely packed, chopped

1 coffee spoon smoked paprika (or red chili flakes if you like it with a spicy kick)

•

Salt and freshly cracked pepper, to taste

Directions 1. In a bowl, mash avocados with a potato masher or a fork until coarsely mashed.

2. Add lemon juice, chopped cilantro, and strawberries. Mix until incorporated. Season to taste with paprika, salt, and black pepper.

3. Sprinkle with additional chopped strawberries for garnish and serve immediately with tortilla chips.
