FROM THE PRINCIPAL

A Year of Achievement and Community

As 2025 draws to a close, we reflect on a year filled with our community connections and success we have achieved. Guided by our commitment to Find Your Future and our Young Adult Ethos, students have embraced opportunities to take responsibility, develop independence, and prepare for life beyond school.

Our Year 12 Presentation Ceremony and breakfast farewell provided the perfect opportunity to acknowledge the achievements of our graduating class, celebrating their resilience and readiness to step into the next stage of their lives University, apprenticeships, TAFE and employment were all a part of the next step for our students.

This year has been a testament to the strength of our community and the success of our Young Adult Ethos. By focussing on our CARE values –Compassion, Achievement, Respect and Excellence, we continued to support students in finding their future and achieving their goals

The inaugural Year 11 River Cruise was a memorable occasion that strengthened friendships and celebrated the journey ahead as our students look to 2026.

We welcomed future students by introducing them to the opportunities and pathways available at Sevenoaks through our Cannington Community College Year 9 visits.

Excursions and other programs were aplenty Students engaged in enriching experiences including the Royal Perth Hospital P.A.R.T.Y program, Big Picture Academy excursions, and Follow the Dream excursions, each reinforcing our ethos of preparing young adults for diverse futures.

Our Workplace Learning continues to support students in demonstrating their capacity to shape their future as they gained valuable skills in professional environments. Our industry partners and extensive employer database ensured all students had access to their future career pathways.

We recognised the dedication and achievements of our athletes who exemplify teamwork and perseverance through the 2025 Sports MVP award presentation. Our teachers also challenged students in a 100 km bike race. This was a great event that brought together staff and students in the spirit of fun and fitness and being a member of a team.

Community and Culture are also a part of Sevenoaks. World Teachers Day was celebrated as we honoured the dedication and professionalism of our teaching staff. Halloween Activities were a creative and enjoyable celebration that strengthened our sense of community. We raised funds for Kanyana Wildlife through a huge morning tea

Finally, we elected our 2026 Guild members for Year 12, including our Captains and Vice Captains, empowering student leadership and ensuring that student voices continue to shape our college culture.

As we enter the holiday season, we extend our thanks to students, families, staff, and community partners for their ongoing support. We wish everyone a safe, restful, and joyful break, and look forward to an inspiring 2026. Thank-you for being a part of the Sevenoaks community.

OUT AND ABOUT - EXCURSIONS

P.A.R.T.Y PROGRAM AT ROYAL PERTH HOSPITAL

On Wednesday the 29 of October the Health Studies students attended the Royal Perth Hospital to participate in the P.A.R.T.Y Program. This has been running since 2006 and is a very sought after program for schools.

The main goal is to reduce trauma-related incidents by educating young people about the dangers of drug and alcohol use and risky behaviours.

Students were walked through the hospital from the Emergency Department to the Intensive Care Unit and then into the Rehabilitation Centre, where they got a very real look at what life could be like if they make poor decisions or take unnecessary risks

Students had the opportunity to speak with first responders, trauma surgeons and trauma survivors, while also participating in some hands on activities that made for an extremely fun and educational experience.

It is always a pleasure to attend this excursion, and our students gain invaluable insights that will help keep them safer in the future

A huge thank you to 'Your Move' for providing raffle prizes and to the school for funding this event. We are in the process of including this into our yearly calendar and aim to organise it in Term 3 in future, so our Year 12s can also participate

BIG PICTURE ACADEMY

YEAR IN REVIEW

We’ve had an incredible year filled with memorable moments, hands-on learning, and outstanding academic achievements

This year, we introduced access to new Certificates and formal qualifications, broadening opportunities for our students. Through the ASDAN Citizenship program, students developed important life skills and earned recognition through an endorsed qualification. Alongside the delivery of Certificate II in General Education and Certificate II in Foundation Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways, students also had the opportunity to achieve a Certificate III in Community Services

We were especially proud of the large number of students who successfully completed workplace learning across a range of industries, including childcare, mining, and animal services. Two students are currently undertaking Aboriginal-based traineeships in Hairdressing and Automotive Services, gaining valuable experience and earning while they learn

Beyond the classroom, students enjoyed a variety of engaging excursions and workshops; from the Shipwreck Museum and Kaarakin Bird Sanctuary to orienteering at Kings Park, the Careers and Employment Expo, the Zero2Hero Conference, Be Street Smart, Try-a-trade in Carpentry and Painting and Decorating and many other enriching experiences.

To help prepare students for future study and career pathways, we visited the Construction Futures Centre and explored several TAFE campuses, including Bentley, Leederville, and Thornlie. In class, students participated in workshops delivered by Helpful Minds, Zero2Hero, and the South Metro Jobs and Skills Centre, gaining valuable insights into wellbeing, resilience, and future employment opportunities.

Our most memorable moments and achievements this year included partnering with the Armadale, Canning, and Gosnells Local Council Drug Action Team and the East Metropolitan Health Service to create meaningful advertisements aimed at reducing alcohol-related harm.

We also had the opportunity to participate in the Francis Burt Law Education Program, where students spent the day visiting the Old Courthouse, Perth Magistrates Court, and the District Court The day concluded with students participating in their very own mock trial, gaining first-hand insight into the legal system.

It’s been a fantastic year of learning, growth, and success; we can’t wait to see what’s next!

Special shout out to Year 12 student, Kai Vianna, who was presented with the Sevenoaks Big Picture Academy Award at the Presentation Ceremony this term. Over the past two years, Kai demonstrated outstanding commitment through excellent attendance, active exploration of personal interests, and generous volunteering. Kai has been a consistent and enthusiastic participant in a wide range of College activities, excursions, and committees Kai is not just a wonderful student, but a positive, helpful, and genuine human being Well done!

THORNLIE TAFE VISITS

This term, some of our Year 11 students have been off site at Thornlie TAFE sampling the trade areas of Carpentry, and Painting and Decorating. These courses help students find their right career path and learn some of the critical skills needed for the job they have chosen.

Our students gained real life experience by completing practical, hands on activities The lecturers were able to advise students about careers and answer their questions about making the most of opportunities and how to get a head start in construction generally.

Well done to Jackson Rawhiti- Heke, Qwinton Pickett and Cruz Handford who all completed one course each, and a special mention for Aiden MacClean who completed both courses.

The Thornlie campus has specialised workshops, and offers courses in the areas of community services, engineering, business, fabrication, heavy duty mechanical, information technology and building and construction. So, check them out if TAFE is the next step on your journey!

WORKPLACE LEARNING

BRAMFIELD PARK PRIMARY SPORTS CARNIVAL

Six of our students demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship and dedication during their work placements as helpers at Bramfield Park Primary School’s (BPPS) sports carnival days.

Despite less-than-ideal weather on the first day, the students showed great resilience, giving their best effort and motivating the young competitors to give it their all and have some fun. Their positive attitude and commitment were a credit to both themselves and the College

BPPS Principal, Jayne Murray, shared glowing feedback, commending the students for their contribution; “I wanted to email to say thank you so much for sending over some of your students to help out with our carnivals on Monday and today. They were all amazing and so helpful. They did everything that was asked of them, they were great with our students, and it was a pleasure to have them as part of our team today I think they really enjoyed themselves, showing great spirit of what the day represents. Thank you once again, we greatly appreciated their assistance.”

We are incredibly proud of our students for their effort, enthusiasm, and the outstanding way they represented the College. Well done to James Archer, Khalil Boucherd, Jerlynn Mae Lanuza, Chayse Lowe, Samiah Ricciardi, Jordin Sarana and Chin Chin Va Khei Chhei

NEW PARTNERSHIP ALERT - THE PILI’S CAFE BENTLEY

The Workplace Learning team are excited to welcome a new employer partner to our program - The Pili’s Café in Bentley Roland and his team hosted seven students this year, mostly for block placements, which can be a challenge in a busy environment.

This hidden gem, tucked just off Albany Highway, opens its doors early at 7:30am, giving students a genuine taste of the early starts and fast pace that comes with a career in hospitality.

We’re incredibly fortunate to have Roland and his team on board As a trained chef, Roland provided our students with valuable one-on-one instruction in knife skills, food preparation, and insights into running a business that also offers catering services as part of its daily operations.

The feedback from our students has been overwhelmingly positive - they all agreed that Roland is “a lovely guy” and thoroughly enjoyed their time at The Pili’s Café On their first day, they were already whipping up coffees, sandwiches, and toasties, and confidently serving customers.

A huge thank-you to Roland and the team at The Pili’s Café for giving our students such a fantastic learning experience, and congratulations to the students for making the most of this opportunity, with several gaining part time work from their placement
