We farewelled our Year 12 cohort during week one. Another great breakfast for our students organised by staff who came along to support, cook, clean and chat. It was a great way for students to finish at Sevenoaks. Then it was time for the main event. What a wonderful event this year’s Presentation Ceremony was. Our students were amazing showing full respect and highlighting the young adults they have become. The audience was the biggest ever – over 1000. Great to see so many parents, carers, family members and friends at the presentation. It was a wonderful team effort by everyone to make the day a success. We are already missingourYear12cohort.
During the year, there is much that happens to make Sevenoaks a success. Our industry partners are always willing to support us; our support staff always on hand to ensure that teachers and students are supported; our incredible teachers always being prepared to go above and beyond for our students; our leadership team and their unwavering commitment to our vision; and finally, our College Board who do so much to support us in achievingourgoalsandmakingSevenoaksthebestplaceitcanpossiblybe.
Finally, we all remember our teachers and those who have influenced and supported us through our school days. I know that in time, our students will reflect and remember our staff for a whole range of reasons for the impact that they have had. We all celebrated our journey on World Teacher’s Day. Thanks to the teachers and staffforensuringourstudentsleaveusasyoungadultstowardtheirfuturepathways.

WA EDUCATION AWARD
EXCELLENCE IN CULTURAL RESPONSIVENESS
It was a very proud day for Sevenoaks Senior College to be recognised as a finalist at the 2024 WA Education Awards. A number of staff, students and partners were lucky enough to attend the award breakfast hosted by the Education Department at Optus Stadium with special guest, Bluey! While we didn’t win, we are so incredibly proud of our efforts. This acknowledgement is not about this year, but the long term commitment and dedication to our First Nation students and their families. Our partners, Polly Farmer Follow the Dream, Clontarf (previously), BG&E (reconciliation partners), Langford Aboriginal Association and Waalitz Deadly Sista Girlz programs have all supported our students and their achievements.
IVET NATIONAL AWARD
We are thrilled to announce that Year 12 student, Nutial Sung Lauren Palsuk, has been selected as one of the winners of IVET’s National 10th Annual Excellence Awards! There were eight winners across Australia, with only two from WA! This is a fantastic achievement and a true testament to Nutial’s hard work, dedication, and passion for vocational education Nutial is an incredibly deserving winner, showing compassion for all and being actively involved in helping and supporting people who are less fortunate
Nutial has been recognised for her outstanding efforts in the Certificate II in Workplace Skills As a valued member of the Sevenoaks College community, Nutial has made an active contribution to several College events including raising money for the Muslim Women’s Support Centre (MWSC) who provide shelter and support for victims of domestic violence. YEAR 12 BREAKFAST

Staff arrived (very!) early to cook up a delicious feast before the 2024 Yearbook was handed out to students. There was shirt signing, hugs and tears before students had their final Presentation Ceremony rehearsal. After abiggroupphoto, studentsleftthecampusforthelasttime.Wearemissing youallsomuchalready!

CANNINGTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE
GIRLS IN STEM
Our ‘Girls in STEM’ day at Sevenoaks this term was organised and run by girls (CCC Year 10 students who attended last year's STEM day) for girls (current CCC Year 9 girls). The session was designed to showcase how projects in Engineering lead the way. Other subjects use textbooks/art/objects/physical activities to learn whereas STEM uses projects and machines to problem solve. Students were exposed to projects such as the drone, RC car and the hydrogen fueled car. The theme of the day was automated projects through automated manufacturing. We had 32 CCC girls and a number of female staff members who were engaged with different activities on the day. Thanks all! clickhere
CROSS-CAMPUS ART PROJECT

This term, we were lucky enough to have a number of Year 9 students from Cannington Community College (CCC) visit us. Students were presented a snapshot of Sevenoaks and our pathways before being taken on a quick tour of the campus
Ms Wilton hosted a few art classes targeting the Year 9 art students by creating a cross-campus art project Ms McGrath, Art teacher from CCC, started the project by having the students create drawings inspired by the theme of 'metamorphosis' Ms Wilton then visited CCC and students started translating these drawings into a scratchboard design. Students came back to Sevenoaks to complete their pieces, which were then framed. The students have been fantastic and are producing excellent and impressive art Students are very keen and excited to be working at Sevenoaks, with many saying how much they loved this initiative and and opportunity.

EXCURSIONS & INCURSIONS
SWAN CHANGEMAKERS LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
Last term, a small group of Sevenoaks students participated in the Swan YoungChangemakersConference.
This was an event organised by Zaneta Mascarenhas, the Federal Member of Parliament for Swan. Students from all schools across the electorate of Swan gathered to discuss issues facing teenagers, and drafted responses which will be used to shape policy in Canberra. Topics included the safe use of socialmedia, housingandinfrastructureforyoungpeople, andeducation.
Our student representatives enjoyed a rewarding day of networking with peers from other schools, contributing to discussions, and even speaking publicly to the entire group to present policy ideas that were formed through consensusbytheirindividualpanels.
We are incredibly proud of Haylee Packham, Charlotte Summers, Willow Hagan and Karri Marshall for the way that they represented Sevenoaks at this conference. All students were offered internships during the summer holidays at Zaneta Mascarenhas' parliamentary office to gain a better understanding of how government functions in Australia. Karri and Willow havealreadymadearrangementstoworkwithZanetainDecember.
We also received positive feedback from parents of some of the students whoparticipated:
"I am very proud of Karri! I have a tear in my eye! Thank you very much for giving her this opportunity. She was excited for the day and for having a say. It was an inspirational day." - TraceyDinwoodie, motherofKarriMarshall
"Deb and I are so proud of Willow. Thanks for this opportunity Tim. You have also been an incredible mentor to Willow. She thinks the world of you. We are very grateful." - JasonHagan, fatherofWillowHagan(picturedleft)
WORLD TRADE SKILLS COMPETITION
clickhere clickhere
The Worldskills Competition is held as a two year cycle covering most major trade areas, and is a globally recognised event. This year it was held in conjunction with the Careers Expo at the Exhibition Centre in Perth The comp starts at a regional level, then at national level as the regional winners compete, and finally the world finals where the national winners battle it out.

This year we were proud to have five Cert II Engineering students: Siarra Flader, Micah Fetterroll, Angus Ryland Adair, Cassandra Daniels and Brodie Robartson, and two Cert II Automotive students: Adithya “Adi” Umesh and Aries Montego representing Sevenoaks at the competition. Of the seven who competed, we had two medallists. Adi Umesh won silver in the automotive comp, barely missing out on gold by 1.5 points out of 100, and Aries Montego was just behind in the bronze medal position An absolutely incredible achievement, we are so proud of all our student representatives!
CUMMINS & KOMATSU EXCURSION
Year 11 Automotive students toured the workshops of our TEC partners, Cummins and Komatsu, this term. Students came back enthused to start work placements with both companies in Year 12 and feedback was very positive about the work environments and opportunities for Apprenticeships in 2026. Many students were amazed at the size of the vehicles and engines, and were shocked at the value of the machines. An insightful and exciting day out! clickhere
CHAMPION WAYS INCURSION

Some very lucky students were selected late last term to participate in the Champion Ways program with world champion boxer and winner of the hit Channel 9 show, The Summit, Lulu Hawton, and holistic practitioner and mindset coach, Michelle Barron
The program works with disadvantaged youth to strengthen their minds with tools and guidance to build on their confidence, self worth, and fitness. Champion Ways helps to empower young people to have a voice and build healthy habits to create good mental health Huge thanks to Lulu and Michelle, all students who participated, and our Student Services team.
CUMMINS INTERNATIONAL VISIT
This term, we welcomed international and national Executive Directors, Directors and Managers from our multi-national partner, Cummins Inc (if you see a semi-trailer or a RAM, they probably have a Cummins heavy diesel engine in them). After a tour of the College including our purpose built Trade Training Centre workshops and STEM Centre, students past and present spoke with our visitors about their journey at Sevenoaks and were wonderful representatives of the College.
Cummins have been fantastic supporters of our trades program and continue to support the development of soft skills across our College through sponsorship of the Passport To Success. The Passport To Success program has been piloted over 2023-2024 across our whole College supported by Cummins and funding from Schools Plus
It was an honour and a pleasure to have some of the company’s top Human Resources Executive Directors come from the UK and Dubai to view the great work our staff and students are doing with Cummins’ support.
Our Deadly Sista Girlz (DSG) co-orindator, Rebekah, along with some very talented DSG students spent days on an absolutely beautiful piece of artwork titled “Koort Boodja”, which was proudly presented to the visitors. Thanks girls!

The team did an absolutely fantastic job showcasing Sevenoaks. The exceptional work you all do is a true asset and a testament to your dedication and effort, which is clearly reflected in the students’ achievements.
- Ms Danni Pietsch, Cummins Regional Branch Manager, Perth

BIG PICTURE ACADEMY NEWS
YEAR 12 FAREWELL
We said a sad farewell to our fabulous Year 12s and celebrated their moving on to pastures new with a strenuous bout of laser quest and a bit of ten pin bowling this term. BPA staff were thrashed in the laser battle but are not reading anything into why they made such great targets! The teachers held their own during the bowling and left with their heads held high. It was a bittersweet excursion and we are always sorry to see our older students go. Despite the ups and downs, we all made it to the last day and are better for knowing each other. Well done to everyone and good luck with all your endeavours in the future! We will miss you a lot.
CREEC NATURE WALK
Our first excursion with our new Year 12s was a local nature walk down at Kent Street Weir, followed by a picnic lunch Despite the grey day and drizzle we braved the elements and clocked up a 4km walk. We also ran the gauntlet of the diving magpies as we somehow missed the warning sign on the way around. Students were impressed with staff’s sprinting skills more than their knowledge of the flora and fauna! We can fully recommend walking the trail but perhaps not in October when the magpies are so antsy!

IKEA BUDGETING CHALLENGE

PRESENTATION CEREMONY
The staff's favourite excursion of the year has come around quickly again This was our third annual ‘Budgeting Challenge’ and this year we returned to IKEA. The students were asked to kit out a series of rooms whilst maintaining a strict budget Working in pairs they needed to negotiate and compromise on the items they wanted for their rooms and then record the decisions they made. Back at school they had to justify their choices during a presentation of their rooms to each other, making changes as a result of the feedback that they were given. Definitely a life skill that needs to be learned and we are so lucky we can do it in such a fun way. clickhere
It was fantastic to see so many of our Big Picture Academy students attend the Presentation Ceremony this year. You all looked fantastic andweareincrediblyproudofeachandeveryoneofyou.

During the school term break our students attended the Langford Aboriginal Association (LAA) Youth Standing Strong 2024 Ball. Huge congratulations to Shane Cole for winning the Mooditj Nop (Beau of the Ball) Award!
Our boys were invited in a paid capacity to perform at the Ball. What a great start to their new business venture which started at Follow the Dream!
GOOD BINJI WELLNESS WORKSHOP
Our students started the term with a presentation from Brenton Turner to get them excited about healthy food and lifestyle health. With major health concerns in the Aboriginal community, education is the key to prevent noncommunicable diseases.
Brenton brought with him a very special guest, Joshua Ross, who represented Australia at the 2004 and 2012 Olympic Games. Ross’ dominance in Australia was impressive as a nine-time national champion across the 100m and 200m. His PB of 10.08 set in Brisbane is the fastest 100m time ever run by an Australian on home soil Students loved hearing from these two wonderful male role models. Thanks for visiting us!
BANKWEST PARTNERSHIP

In today's world, access to technology is essential for students' success, so we’re thrilled Bankwest has generously donated over 60 preloved laptops to Follow the Dream students across the state. Congratulations to Nyeemah Gonzales who was the successful Sevenoaks recipient!
Nyeemah attended a presentation ceremony at Bankwest’s Perth head office. Not only did she receive her laptop, but also had the chance to hear from five Bankwest staff members about their unique career journeys. Plus, she got a glimpse into the fantastic corporate culture at Bankwest
CLASS OF 2024

We are thrilled to announce that all eleven students in our Year 12 cohort have successfully completed their schooling journey. This remarkable group consistently went above and beyond to represent both their school and the Follow the Dream program, proudly sharing their culture across schools and events throughout Perth We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments and wish them the very best as they embark on their future pathways.
Congratulations to our award winners at the Presentation Ceremony: Aprile Narrier - Cultural Navigator Award (presented by Ms Sally Panizza) Ciennah Nestoridis - BG&E Academic Achievement Award (presented by Mr Anthony Wood)

They made it to the final game losing to Victoria, but gaining a silver medal. Thanks to his to outstanding performance during the tournament, Joel was then selected as an All Star representative, what a huge achievement!
